Question for Ghost or anyone who had ICSI/IVF

Post by mgpasco »

So, I had ER on Friday the 25th. Only got 3 eggs and on Saturday two showed "signs of fertilization".

I called the lab today and they said the two are still chugging along (not their words but you get the drift). Since it's Monday, and my ET is now scheduled for Wednesday with my two little fellas, what is the opinion that the two little fellas will make it to Wednesday? That is my biggest fear at this point, that the two little guys won't make it. But I was wondering that if they made it this far, if there is a better chance they'll make it to the ET or if it is a total crap shoot?

I would call the Re back and ask exactly how many cells each embie has. The embryologist should know that. That would be the best answer you can get. If they fertilized and they're developing, then yes, you have a chance to go to ET.
I'm wishing you the best as this is a nerve wrecking time. I know too well as I only had 2 embies to play with as well.
But put your mind at ease by calling and ask all the questions you want.

Good luck

I've had a total of 6 ivf cycles--the last 3 were w/ icsi. Generally, if the embryos aren't good to transfer--ie not dividing properly, no fertilization, etc.--they won't even schedule you for an et. I had 2 out of the 6 where I didn't even make it to the ET because they just weren't dividing the way the were supposed to or had no fertilization--and they know this usually the day before the et. The fact that you are scheduled for et is a good sign.

Good luck to you!!!! Lots of baby dust.

Thanks for your good wishes! The two made it and I just had the ET. 1 was 6 cell and 1 was 10 cell.

Does that seem right for a five day transfer?

My first IVF/ICSI cycle I had three put back on day three and they were 5, 7, and 8 cell.

The biologist said there was minimal fragmentation. What does that mean?

mgpasco~Hello. It seems to me that on Day 5 the embryos should be at the blastocyst stage or very close to it. Did they give you the grades of the embryos? As far as fragmentation, that refers to the shape of the cells in the embryo. The less degree of fragmantation, the higher the grade of the embryo-the better the quality. I am hoping that you get your BFP!! Keep a positivemental attitude and you are "pregnant until proven other wise" (PUPO)

No, they didn't give me the grades and I am a big chicken for not asking. Sometimes I get amnesia and forget stuff I want to ask them until after I get home.
