Baby has finally arrived!!

Post by alison p »

:D Hi all,

Just to let you know that Daniel William arrived safely on Monday 26th Jan at 1.25 pm. We only came out of hospital on Friday, and I haven't had a spare 5 minutes to get on here until now! It really does take all your time up having a new baby.

The birth didn't quite go as I had planned - water, relaxing music, birthing ball, but I'm glad it's all over.

I went in to hospital last Sunday to be induced. They gave me 2 lots of Prostin gel during the day which didn't really get anything going. My husband was then sent home and told to rest and return the next morning. However, my waters broke just after midnight, so hubby was called back! They then started me on the drip (oxytocin - cann't remember the actual name of the drug), and I was on this until 12 pm. Nothing was happening, so I was offered a C-section, which I gladly took.

The C-section was fab! No pain, no pushing, just relaxing music in the operating theatre. However, I haemorrhaged after the op and lost a huge amount of blood, so Monday and Tuesday were a bit of a blur. I ended up having 5 units of blood over 2 days, which made me feel so much better!

Anyhow, we're both doing fine now, although Daniel isn't feeding very well, so I'm having to top him up with formula milk.

Sorry to go on so much, but as everyone on this website can appreciate, it's such a miracle that this has happened and that we are now able to hold such a perfect creation in our hands. It's the most wonderful feeling in the world.

Good luck to all the expectant mums out there,

Lots of love,

Alison xx

Well Done!!
God it sounds like you had a bit of a nightmare but as you say it's all worth it and you soon forget the pain! Get as much rest as you can and enjoy! Give me a ring when you're up to having visitors and me and Niamh will come and say hello.

:) Thanks everyone for your kind words. Just done the 3am feed and trying to get him back off to sleep, so thought it a good opportunity to catch up on a few emails, etc (there doesn't seem enough time during the day).

Still cann't believe how lucky we both are to have such a beautiful son - it makes all those dark days of IVF failure worthwhile.
