I have scheduled my first consult for IVF and it is four months out. I have a small cyst on my right ovary but my ob/gyn said not to be concerned. I am wondering if they will still let me go through IVF with it or if I will have to have it surgically removed first. If I would have to have surgery, I would rather have it now. Any input is appreciated. Thanks.
Jensrae- I have never had a cyst but I think from what the other ladies say that a round of BCP's will often shrink it. And if the cyst does not affect your hormone levels they will go on with IVF with the cyst there. They also have the option of draining it if it is too large. Good Luck
Me 37(oh no another yr older)
DH 42 male factor
1st IVF/ICSI/AH 6/08 BFN
2nd IVF/ICSI/AH 9/08 BFN
I have one on my right ovary and it has never gone away. As long as it isn't producing estrogen then it is fine. In my case it was producing estrogen at the start of every cycle, so I was delayed 2 weeks each time until it stopped.
JesJes - I had a fairly large cyst during my first round of IVF and my RE kept me on BCP's and Lupron for a couple extra weeks. The cyst finally shrunk enough and my E2 had gone down as well, so they started the cycle. If it did not shrink, my RE was just going to aspirate it. I think everyone is a bit different, but I hope yours goes down soon and you get to start. Good luck!
I had a large cyst during my first IVF cycle and my RE kept me on BCP's and Lupron for an extra 2 weeks. The cyst finally shrunk enough and my estradiol had gone down as well, so I started the cycle. My second cycle, I had the same problem but this time it did not shrink and my levels were still elevated so it had to be aspirated.
