keeping reptiles when doing IVF/pregnant

Post by Prawnster »

Hi, I wonder if anyone has done IVF or become pregnant whilst having a Lizard as a pet. I know that reptiles carry bacteria particulary Salmonella and strict hygiene must be adhered too. I was about to choose my long awaited pet but also now about to start an IVF cycle.

Thank you

I am not sure about IVF but I do have a friend whose 2 year old contracted Salmonella from the pet lizard and it caused her severe long term issues. Sorry :(

Thank you for your reply and I am sorry to hear about your friends little one. I think I will be postponing the lizard as my head is telling me not to take the risk.

Thank you again and I wish you luck with your baby boy!

Prawnster - I think you should follow your gut feeling. Maybe you can postpone it until your child is older and not so susceptible. My friend had a really healthy girl and she got so sick that it stunted her development, I am sure that it was a fluke but better safe than sorry!

Good luck and tons of baby dust!
