Acupuncture and IVF

Post by Josefin »

After two failed inseminations (no obvious reasons found for why we have difficult getting pregnant, except that my husbands sperms have low mobility but enough for assisted pregnancy), the doctor recommended acupuncture. One of my friends who was planning to do IVF and started doing acupuncture to prepare for the IVF got pregnant the normal way.

Do any of you have experience of combined acupuncture and IVF ?

Hey J I did AP with my first 2 cycles and am also doing it now. Pregnancy rates are increase by about 15-20% if you use AP with IVF, but studies argue as to why the rates go up. Most Docs have you go 2 times a week with cost from $55-95 per session. It’s best to start 3 months ahead of time, but better late than never. The sessions take about 45 minutes. The needles don’t hurt but can feel funky sometimes. I wear a tank top and very loose shorts I can move around.
Hope this helps!

Hi,

I started acupuncture a few weeks ago after a failed IVF cycle. I am a very skeptical person to begin with...most of all, I needed (and still do) help with the anxiety and stress that I was feeling. My doctor never recommended it...but, I knew I needed to do something.

I have to say...I have felt a lot better. I'm seeing things a little bit more clearly. I'm still very worried, but...I feel a little bit more mellow...it's a good feeling.

I start my next cycle next month...I'm taking some herbs now but will stop a week or two before I start Lupron.

My acupuncturist is also really helpful answerig my questions regarding infertility...she's knows a lot about it. If you do try it, I would suggest finding someone who deals with women's issues and knows a lot about infertiltiy.

Overall, it has been a good experience for me...and I would recommend it.

All the best to you!!!
