Does anyone know Shady Grove's protocol after a BFP?

Post by elisabethski73 »

Hi there,

I was hoping someone could fill me in on what SG's protocol is after a BFP. How long after your first Beta do you go in for your second? Then, when is the third? When do you have an u/s and when do they refer you to your OB? When do the dreaded PIO shots stop? Do they move you to suppositories? Thanks for all of your info!!

Hi!

I went to SG and might be able to answer some of your questions. I hyperstimulated so they did things a little differently with me, but I'll try to answer your questions as if I hadn't!

1) My second Beta was drawn three days after the first, but I believe that was done because my first Beta was drawn on a Friday (and they didn't want me to come in on the weekend for just b/w---they had me come in on a Monday for my 2nd Beta). Otherwise, I think it's drawn 2 days later.

2) I had a third Beta drawn 2 days after the second Beta.

3) I had more u/s appointments than a "normal" patient because of the OHSS, but I think normally your first u/s is done at 6.5 weeks and the second one around two weeks later (they seemed pretty flexible).

4) I was referred to my OB after the 8.5 week u/s. I believe they want to continue to see you up to 10 weeks only if there is a problem with previous u/s and b/w appointments (my OHSS had calmed down by 8.5 weeks and the appointments went well---so I graduated from the clinic at 8.5 weeks).

5) Yes, the PIO shots stop!!! I believe you switch to the suppositories after your first Beta. I had to stay on the shots for a little while longer because of my OHSS, so double check with your nurse. The baby aspirin stops after your first u/s and the estrogen tablets are reduced to 1 per day at 8 weeks. After 10 weeks (at 10w1d), you're OFF of everything (except the prenatals, of course)--no more suppositories, estrogen, etc.

I hope this helps a bit! I had my retrieval/transfer done in March--your name looks familiar--did you post on that thread too? I'm assuming that their protocal hasn't changed much since then---but who knows! Also, maybe someone else will post who didn't hyperstimulate, in case things were done differently for them! Of course, check with your nurse about all of this. Until then, maybe this will give you some idea of what to expect!

Good luck with everything!

Hi,
I have been going to sg and during my 2 BFP cycle, the protocol is same. They will do first beta 18dpo then 2 days later second beta( if it is not a weekend). Mostly if the nos. look good they don't ask for third beta. I didn't have for both cycle. They ask you to come for first u/s on 6w 5d and then every 2 weeks till 12 weeks. I didn't have any problem but I went there till 12 week so I think it depends on the dr. and this time also the instruction is same like last time. The medicines are same as told by rik 1. They changed me to prog supp as soon as I had positive beta. Estrogen changed to 1 a day from 8th week till 10th week and baby aspirin stopped after first u/s. All of these med. stopped after 10th week and I graduated from there in my 12th week.
Hope this answers your question.

Thanks Annie and Rk1,

I really appreciate all of your info and Congrats to you both for being pregnant!!!! I have tested BFP's on HPTs, and go in on Monday for the official beta! I'm hoping that this one sticks b/c last cycle I ended up having a beta "too low to last" so everything stopped after that first beta. Yes, rk1, this was back in March/April. So, I am happy that your pregnancy went so well!!!

When are you both due? Do you know if you are having a boy or girl yet?

Wishing you both the best!

Hi,
Thanx. I will be going for my first u/s on 8/14. The sex of the baby can be found out around 20th week so it is too early for me. On my first u/s, I can find out the exact estimated due date but from different site, it seems it will be around the last week of march.

I went to Shady Grove too and had 3 betas (each 2-3 days apart). I had my first u/s at 6 weeks 2 days and then my second (and last) u/s at 7 weeks 2 days. I literally begged them to let me have another one as I had a miscarriage last year at 8 weeks, but they wouldn't let me! They said that insurance might not pay for it. They also said that they were not "allowed" to see patients after 10 weeks, so who knows! I wish I could have had u/s through 12 weeks--I'm jealous! My medication was reduced the same as already mentioned.

Hey Amazu,

Thank you!!!! And, Oh yeah am I ever!! I am having loads of fatigue and definitely sore boobs. I pee frequently regardless of my pregnancy status, but am already getting up 3-4x a night vs. 1x night. (gotta love that!) The fatigue seems to be the worse for me. I virtually non functional at work. Thank God I am in sales and make my own hours! It seems like I can get one thing accomplished and then I need to go home and rest! It is ridiculous.

What have they told you about exercise and sex? I have avoided both and would like to get back to working out (both in and out of the bedroom!), but don't want to do anything that might do damage!

Which SG do you go to? I live just outside of Bethesda/Chevy Chase in Kensington, so go to the Rockville office and see Dr Chang. I was really worried this last time b/c they did a 6 day transfer of 2 blasts, but now I am thankful!

Your u/s is just around the corner!!! You must be very excited to see your baby/babies!!

Hi,

Yep!, I am excited and nervous. I went to the leesburg office but I now I have moved out of town. So I have to go to a regular ob/gyn for my u/s. I was told that I can resume my normal life after 5 days from ET but we are taking precaution of avoidind sex or doing any rigorous exercise till 1st trimester. I don't know abt the rest of the pg. Everything depends on what the dr says on first u/s.
Enjoy your pg and yes I too feel quite tired and hardly feel like doing anything.
