Need your experiences with having a hysteroscopy!

Post by dreamer38 »

Hi,
Just a quick question. My RE wants to do a hysteroscopy. She said that all they will give me is valium and vicodin during the procedure? Anyone else have this done? What did they give you when you were having it done? And how much pain did you have during the procedure? Should I chicken out?? LOL

When I had mine it was for a D&C and I was knocked out for it, but I would imagine if it is just to incert the camera there wouldnt be much discomfort if you have the vicoden and volume. I would ask for what ever they give you via IV, it works better and faster.

Good luck and sorry I couldnt be much help.

I had a hysteroscopy done under general anesthesia. The anesthesiologist said it was a very light anesthesia, but I did sleep and woke up shortly after the procedure with mild af like cramps and light spotting. The procedure took I think about 15 minutes and my doc removed some fibroids during the hysteroscopy. The cramps lasted for only a few hours and they gave me some pain meds via iv for it. The said to call the clinic if I had any fever, vomitting, more severe cramps or bleeding. I was told not to take a bath (shower is fine), no intercourse, no heavy lifting for about 2 weeks.

I was asleep so I wasn't aware of what was going on, but if you're not having the surgical part like I did, I don't think it will be bad at all.

Unfortunately, I did not have any sort of anesthesia. All my doctor told me to take was a motrin or tylenol. If I had to have another hysteroscopy, I would push to have some sort of anesthesia. Personally, if you doc is offering valium and vicoden, I would take it!

Thanks to all of you!
I have to call RE today, and I am definetely going to talk about anesthesia, I think I would be more comfortable for sure. It's just a diagnostic hystroscopy so hopefully it'll be quick!!
Thanks again!!! Good luck to you all!

if they are doing a hysteroscopy at all in my opinion they shjould be in a position to correct something if they find it while they are doing the procedure.

That way you wouldnt have to go through it twice.

That is the way my Dr did it

I agree with NY4thtry.... that's how my dr did it too..he was able to remove fibroids while I was under... Definitely talk to your dr about all the details.

I guess I had a different experience. I had a hysteroscopy just for diagnotstic purposes. It was not a big deal. Slightly more uncomfortable than a pap smear. Over w/in 5 minutes.

I was put under, but it seemed like a very easy proceedure. I did not have any pain. I think you should do it if your doc thinks it is important.
Good luck with everything.
