Help needed-Reflexology vs Accupuncture?

Post by SQUEW »

Hi Guys

Just popped over from the other side to see if you can help.
I have just had a failed FET cycle and am going to do a full cycle in March/April.
I would like to do something 'different' next time and a lot of the girls are trying accupunture and chinese herbs at the mo. When I cycled in Sept everyone seemed to be more into reflexology!
So my question is, do any of you think that these treatments made a difference and helped you get pg? Also what sort of costs are involved and how far before treatment should you start?

Would appreciate any advice,
Thanks

Go for Both!

Post by Dawn Blake »

Firstly good luck!

I had both, but my Mum is a reflexologist so freebie treaments each week help!

Why don't you try both and see what you enjoy more, because at the end of the day I am sure both help, but your relaxation during treatment is the key factor.

Wishing you all the luck in the world!

hi sue, i had accupuncture and chinese medicine for 3 months before and i feel that they contributed greatly. the doc worked on my uterus, liver and improving egg quality. i took the meds in tablet form so didn't have to brew the herbs like some of the girls do. anyway, while working up to my next ivf tmt i became pregnant naturally after years of trying, two failed ivf's and 3 pregnancy losses.

i had two visits per month; pre ovulation and pre period. it costs about £100/120 per month depending on how many tablets.

if you do decide to go for accupuncture think about getting someone who treats fertility. i know that to be qualified they all need to have studied all areas but its' reassuring if it's with somone with particular experience and successes in fertility.

good luck with making your decision and best wishes for your tmt.

Hiya

I was wondering the same! But then I wonder, why dont the consultants tell us to go and get it? or open up their own businesses with them?????

I had posted on the general site about this. I am starting stims in 4 wks, & the acupunturist said she would want to see me once a week for atleast 2 months before. So I have decided not to do it! I know if I get a neg, I will prob say its cus I didnt though! 1) dont want to wait any longer, and am ready to start and 2) cant damn well afford £30 a week plus herbs, call me tight or what! but already forked out thousands on treatment :(

Pregnacare here I come!

GOOD LUCK

Dear Sue,

I had acupuncture before and after ET on my last (4th) cycle and I now have a lovely bouncing boy. I cann't say for certain that it was the reason I finally got pregnant, but it certainly didn't do any harm. It may help you to relax and studies have been done showing an increased pregnancy rate following acupuncture, so it's certainly worth a go.

I haven't tried reflexology so cann't say anything either way.

Good luck with your next cycle,

Hi Sue

As you know we cycled together in Sept and I had a reflexology. I'm not convinced it had anything to do with getting pg, but like you I was desperate to try anything new and different! I didn't fany accu simply cos the thought of more needles was too much!!

I know that Helen S (testing tomorrow!) has had lots of accu as part of her tmt with Care in Sheffield. They have an onsite accupuncturist and chinese doctor who performs accu as part of EC/ET and then more tmt afterwards. She has taken zillions of chinese potion pills too (60 a day) this is all recommended as part of the tmt at Care. As Karen says, it helps if the consultants actually recommend things for you, rather than leaving you to make your own decisions.

Hopefully Helen will test +ve tomorrow and this should give you some more encouragement. I would do whatever you prefer - for me someone rubbing my feet seemed a lot more relaxing than having a needle in your head and taking 60 pills a day!!

Good luck with your next tmt - I was really sorry to see the last one didn't work. Fingers crossed next time, is the go for you!!
