I am confused about bras. I had to buy new bras and i was told to buy maternity bras but i am rather big busted 38ff/g and when i went to get measured i was told that mat bras would not give me the support that i needed and under wired bras would be better as it is important to have to support thats what helps with stretch marks etc so i bought 2. But i was told years ago that underwired ones cause problems with the milk ducks. Then my sis told me a girl who is about the same as me both in size and as far on, that she was told the same by her midwife (about the milk ducts). She got bras in mothercare but i read in a book that you don,t need one until about 7 months. Can anyone help my dh is going mad listening to me rambling on about them.
Hope this makes sense.
I can also give Jordan a run for her money on the bra size - without the help of silicone!!
My midwife & consuultant both told me to stop wearing underwired bras immediately, so I went to M&S and was professionally measured for non-wired bras. I had to buy the more expensive ones (they do a great 2 pack for 'normal' sized girls) but it was worth it. I'm 6 months now and they have only just started to pinch, so I'm off to get measured for some more that will hopefuly see me through to the end.
If your M&S is not very helpful, try Bravisimo - I buy all my underwear from there and I know they have special maternity bras and if you have a store near you they will measure you aswell.
You'll find non-wired are much more comfortable and I wouldn't worry about support because they soon start to sit on your bump so get all the support they need........at least mine do!!!!
I think the general advice seems to be not to wear under-wired bras during pregnancy due to the milk ducts. I found the M&S bras very comfy (the maternity ones rather than the nursing ones, which you don't need just yet). The Mothercare ones were too flimsy I found, plus M&S do lacy ones in black and white, which are a bit more sexy than some others. The matching maternity knickers are very nice as well.
I also tried Bravisimo - you can get these at Blooming Marvellous and JoJoMamanBebe, both of which have great websites. Their sizings are a bit odd, but I found it very nice. They also come in a variety of colours including leopard print - very sexy!!
I am going into town today so i am going to m&s and if i have no luck there i will try the other names you gave me. I feel stupid i should not of had listened to that stupid woman in that shop and just went with my instinct and went somewhere else. I spend a fortune on bras so my dh won't be happy but at least it will stop me rambling on about it. The new bras are already digging in underneath but we learn from our mistakes.
Just take them back and say you've changed your mind and you would prefer to find some that are non-wired. Silly woman (in the shop, not you!)
Make sure you get someone to measure you and ask for their advice on which bras are providing the most support- that is what they are there for. In Leeds they are really great and very helpful, so hopefully you'll have the same.
As soon as people find out you are pregnant they seem to fall over themselves trying to help. Its great!
Have fun shopping (my favourite thing at the moment!!)
I saw my midwife for the first time on Tuesday. I questioned about bras and did I need to get a maternity bra - she said that I just needed a bigger size and that I wouldn't need a maternity bra until week 32ish!!
i went to m&s at 12 ish weeks as i could no longer wear my underwired bras as they were digging in so much. I had gone up several sizes already and she fitted me with a maternity bra with 5 hook adjustments at the back, so you can loosen it as you get bigger. She said the best thing you can do is get regularly remeasured as your boobs are changing every week. Mine have got huge already and really need something big and comfy.
Hope you found something suitable.
On the subject of maternity bras, I went back to M&S yesterday and was remeasured because the bras I bought at the beginning were starting to hurt and leave red marks. I was remeasured and am now a 40D! OMG. But at least today I'm sat in comfort and I bought some big knickers which fit too - sod the fact I had to buy two sizes bigger than normal! Comfort is always the best policy!!
I am still in a A CUP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and I am 22 weeks PG today. I am not bragging, I am distraught I have spent years with bee stings on my front and they are not growing, aaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrggggg!!
They don't make maternity bra's in an A cup!
Oh well, there is still time yet otherwise my baby is giong to be very hungry!
I wish I was in an A cup!!!!!!!! You'll have to bring your baby round to mine, I feel like I'm going to be feeding the five thousand!!! My leaked yesterday - how revolting is that!! Urrrgghhhh........
Went to M&S and was not too impressed she said i was a 40f which the 40 was fine but i have not been an f for about 2 years. They don.t do total support maybe in the larger stores they do. She asked if i wanted to try one on but i said i would wait until my mum was there for support i will also try mothercare next time if not then the internet. I am going to Carlise shopping next month so i might wait until then i've asked for my birthday money early to buy some clothes and bras. I asked my midwife (it was a different one) and she said she had never heard about the milk duct theory before but she was really nice told me what ever i feel comfy in which at the moment is the nude.
I agree - M&S is the way to go - you can try blooming marvellous - I have not gone in yet to be properly measured as they seem to change weekly or every two weeks - I had loads when I was pg last year with Oliver and just bought some before my 20 week scan that sadly hardly got used....... enough of that.
I am normally around a 32C/D (sorry DAgny) as have small back but a sizeable chest I suppose and am now way past the 34F's that suited me last time at this stage and growing out of the 36D's that I got around 18 weeks last time - ouch - they seem to be spreading width ways not outwards or you could see me coming around corners.
Dagny as you are a mate and sent some bump down the line how about taking some of our breasticles off our chest? - Girls just send a few inches and cup sizes down the line and that will please us all.
Have you tried George at ASDA - very reasonably once you know your size

I have something that will make you laugh....I just had lunch with a client and she had returned from a business trip to Luxembourg. Her flight was delayed due to the weather and she had to stay another night and fly back the next day, so realising she didn't have any undies for the next day - ran into a posh lingerie shop (before they shut!) and was browsing the undies and she couldn't understand the sizes (European rather than UK), so she asked the lady if she would measure her. The woman (obviously in a rush to close) huffed and puffed and told her to lift her arms up and put the tape measure round and then shouted "sorry too small - we don't have anything that small, you must leave we are closing now" and ushered her out of the shop!!!!!
If you have some spare breastie bumps my baby will very much appreciate it come June. Poor love will be very under nourished if things carry on this way. That's if I decide to breast feed - still haven't decided.
Nikola, that poor client of yours has my complete sympathy. How embarassed she must have been. Still, the story is a funny one. I don't know if I would have seen the funny side of it if it had've been me though.
One of my friends is having the opposite problem to me. She is 28 weeks pg with her second baby and she is a KK cup already!!!! God knows what she will be once she has the baby and starts breast feeding. She is in her feeding bras already from the first baby. We do look a funny pair shopping for bras together. She will kill me if she knew I was telling you this - ooops
