Recenly did IVF for the first time and am now 7 weeks preg. Everything until now has been normal. Had my first u/s today and was told that the yolk sac is 6.5. Normal would be less than 5.5. Heartrate is 111. Measuments of the baby are normal for 7 weeks. Hcg is over 15000. Doctor said, a large yolk sac usully means either genitic defect or miscarrige. Can't find much on the internet. Has this happened to anyone else? How did your preg. turn out. Please let me know.
Hello Cress
Congrats on your pregnancy just popping on to respond to your post at my 7 week scan my ivf doctor commented that i bubs yolk sac was big, his words were "bub's got a nice big sac" so i didn't presume it to be a problem i'm now nearly 29 weeks and bub is fine. i guess if your worried give your doc a quick call to discuss your concerns and hopefully he can put your mind at rest. good luck with your pregnancy i hope everything goes just fine and you have a healthy bub to cuddle in the end
Jomae - Thank you for your reply and congrats on the preg. I feel so much better knowing that someone else has had a postive experience. My Dr. is consulting high risk dr. for more informaiton but wont know anything until next week. His first response was that yolk sac is really large and said that could mean a gentic defect then went to his office to look it up in a text book. Came back to say it could mean early demise of the preg. But of course he didnt mean to upset me. Said we need to just wait it out. Easy for him to say. Thanks again!Lisa
cress- I AM SO SORRY.
Is there a way to have another U/S? Some embies are very slow at the begining (mine is 7 days late) and we also didnt see the hb at the begining but only the yolk. I cant remember which week though, but the nurse told me that we should have seen it by then. Next week there was a hb.
I'm so sorry.... I recently had a d&c as well..and I think it was the right choice for me..it let me get on with things a lot faster than if I had waited for a natural miscarry I think.. I hope all goes well and stay strong.
I think they go by the beta as well as the wks...if the beta is a certain # I think there are things that should be seen... that's what my doc told me before my d&c and I also got another opinion by a radiologist.
IVF1: BFP 02/08 - Chemical 4 wks.
IVF2: BFP 06/08 - Miscarriage 6 wks.
IVF3: BFP 11/09 - Chemical
IVF4: dec/jan Dear Lord..please let this be the one.
Hope you are doing ok. I had an ectopic pg may of 07 and the dr sad that i was only 6 wks along and that my yolk sac was not forming good and for me to get use to the idea of a miscarriage but he did not do a good us because I was actually 3mths along and the baby had a heart beat when i heard it i broke down and had to wait 4 hrs for them to surgically remove my baby. no matter what stage we are at in a pregnancy it is so hard to know that it is not viable as the medical feild puts it. My heart goes out to you. hope all goes well
So sorry to hear this Lisa. We had a similar experience. It's devastating. Be gentle with yourself these next few weeks!
