Ghost: Question about recurrent miscarriage and PGD with IVF

Post by chenry4413 »

I was hoping to get yourt input on my situation. I know there are others with recurrent miscarriage but it's been hard to get info on what people do. We are at Cornell. MY day 2 FSH is 9.1. I just got a BFN on IVF#1. 8 out of 12 mature aggs fertilized and 2 of the 8 passed PGD. 2 morula were tranferred on d5. My doc says they looked "okay", not great, but were still growing. I will have a cosultation with him to get more specific info as well as find out how he thinks we should proceed.

A few questions:
1. Is there any chance it could be bad sperm as opposed to bad eggs? His assay was totally normal (but he has been exposed to really bad chemicals in his job as a fireman). We've asked this before and never gotten any real answer but it would be nice to know if we consider ED as an option down the road.

2. Do you think it's worth a second try to do IVF with PGD again?

3. Do you have any advice on how to get insurance to approve IVF with PGD for me (who didn't do chlomid or IUI, which is required by our Insurance prior to IVF). I have a letter of medical necessity but the woman in charge or pre-cert told me that it might hinder my chances since it proves I can get pregnant. Do you know of any resources I can contact for advice?

4. Have you heard of CHG that they do at the Sher Institute? I'm going to go for a consult to look at that as a possible option. The eggs need to be pretty hearty to make it through all of the testing and freezing and thawing but perhaps this would help really screen them to get a healthy egg.

5. Do you know women in my situation who have gone on to have a baby or do most opt for Donor eggs or adoption?

Thanks so much Ghost and sorry for the long email! I really appreciate and respect what you are doing.

Why are they doing PGD? because of recurrent miscarriage?

I have consulted with Dr Sher and tey believe heaviliy in PGD but i have spoken to other Drs that for woman in or age range wuth poor yileds it is not a good idea.. so i am not sure.
I am currnetly i nthe process of trying to decide whether to stay at cornell or not.

The PGD is for recurrent miscarriage. In fact, the only reason we are doing IVF is for the PGD. I need to have a follow-up consult with my doc and see what he thinks. I go to Spandorfer and have no issues with him so far. I mean, there's not a whole lot he can do or say about my situation until we try certain things out like PGD so it will be intersting to see what he thinks our next move should be.
