I was wondering if anyone could recommend an acupuncturist in the Long Island/Queens area in NY????
Also-what positive experiences have people had with acupuncture and IVF? I've heard really positive things but I would love to hear from those who have actually had those positive experiences.
I have to agree with the previous post...I've been doing acupuncture for about 5 weeks now and I started for the sole purpose of reducing stress. It has really helped me to keep calm. I also think it's important that you find someone who has experience with infertility. I have someone in Manhattan...but I believe she also has an office in Queens. Let me know if you want her information. She's been really great for me and knows a lot about the IVF process.
I agree with Snapper- you need a good TCM AP or someone very good .
There are allot of wanna be practioners out there. I interviewed 3 before I made my decision. I didnt go with one that focused on fertility only tough, i went wih one I thought really listened to me, took the time to listen to my goals, and also thier credentials as well as any testiminoals.
Be very careful with herbs though- allotof AP's try to push them on you.
My RE actaully was excited I am doing AP- but he said no herbs because they could have adverse reactions to the fert meds-
I agree with Toobee and Snapper. I chose a TCM AP. She does specialize in IVF and has had good results. But the important part was that she's TCM.
I've been doing it for almost 3 months and I feel so calm and centered because of it. I felt really bad during the first cycle and emotions were flying all over the place...not anymore. I had only 2 eggs the first time and 5 this cycle. I believe she has helped me already.
Getting pregnant would be further proof that it works so well.
I wish I could recommend someone in your area but I live in Miami.
Best of luck and I hope you find a good TCM!!

As I said...she is a lovely person who can put you at ease and she really knows a lot about infertility and IVF. I did take herbs for a while but I will stop that a few weeks before I start my next cycle. She understands that most doctors don't like you to mess with that once you start meds.
I know of about three great accupuncturists in the city.
You want TCM and you want to give TCM three months to clear up and clear out the body and help fertility.
FOR IVF, you can do it to support a cycle, and start before or when you start you stims, through the transfer (before and after) .
If you don't have good results with IVF, consider doing TCM for three months prior to starting aother.
Oriens in NYC has an accupuncturist who worked w/ Randine Lewis who wrote The Infertility Cure.
Hi,
I am just finshing my BCP this week and will start Stims next weekend, its my first IVF so I am reading up on it and must say that it is all a bit overwhelming. I found a good article that summarizes 6 studies done on IVF and acupuncture (it sounds like they were independantly done but you never know) http://www.suggestadoctor.com/health_article_30.htm
I am considering starting acupuncture, but not sure as I have never tried it before and think that the thought of needles may just add stress rather then relieving it. But as there are so much positive feedback on the combination of IVF and acupuncture I think I may try it this week before I start the stim and I can decide if it is something for me.
Wish you all lots of good health and success
Josefin
I've been going to a licensed acupuncturist who specializes in infertility for the last 3 weeks. She seems to be very good, very knowledgeable...she asked for my and my husbands bloodwork results from previous cycles and screenings. But, there is one thing I wonder about. She inserts the needles but then pushes them into my skin/muscle until about 1/4" or so. It is quite painful in some spots (shin, fingers). Once they are in, I'm fine and can relax, etc, sometimes dozing off for a few minutes. I had gone to an accupuncturist (from China) prior to ARTs, while contemplating what to do next. I saw her for 3 months. It didn't work on it's own. The needles never hurt going in with her...she would just tap them and that would be it, not push them further like my current AP. What's it like at your AP sessions?
