I unfortunately did not get good news this morning at my first u/s, no heartbeat. We are at 6wks6ds so we should be able to see it. The Dr. said there is a slim chance so we are going back in on Saturday morning for one more u/s.

Congrats to SilverAngel on hearing the two heartbeats ... how far along are you today?

Dcdiva: I hope you got better news than me.

hi ladies!
hopefulinSD: i'm sorry about no hb at this point...i can't imagine how your feeling...i'll keep my fingers crossed for you and ur DH. Good luck next week.

silverangel: congrats!! those 2 hb sound fantastic. are you dismissed from their clinic and going to see an ob now or do you have more u/s coming up?

kimmy: sorry about ur m/s...it might be transient from week to week..mine went away at 7 wks..ur plan sounds pretty good tho'. I've had meat aversions this past week...but today i had chinese orange chicken at the mall :D ...not sure about the msg content of it.

ngdo: i'm glad someone else is having fun with the big O's...my clinic has NO restrictions about sex, but silverangel may have a point about the oral stuff. I do know that if your partners have had genital herpes and you test negative for it, than no sex at all during the 3rd trimester...sorry maybe TMI, but i'm a doctor so couldn't help it 8)

jenniferdp: welcome to the group...i'm also having twins so we can share stories...how many weeks are you? how many did u have transferred?

dcdiva: hope you had some good news today!

hommy, jennagirl, antoak, tris22, rn2005, and anyone else i may have missed - hope all is well!

As for me, i'm so happy and relieved...we saw 2 strong little hearts on the U/S...measured at 200 and 154 bpm...pretty fast...i've heard girls have a faster hb...we'll see :D EDD is 4/6, but i'm sure it'll be earlier for twins...i'm so thankful to God and praying that this good luck continues....

Small size sac; fuzzy twin; should I keep worrying?

Post by siouxsie »

I’ve read a lot of forum postings, but have never participated. Now I’m worried so I’d love to hear your insights.

We went to the doctor yesterday 8/25 for an ultrasound. We saw the gestational sac and yolk, but not the embryo or heartbeat. I know it’s a little early for the heartbeat, but we were hoping.

The doctor said he was concerned because sac was a bit small for the age, but then he came back and said he miscalculated the date and I was actually only 5w+5d so it was okay. (According to an online calculator, I’m 6w+1d.)

Also, he saw a second gestational sac which was the same size as the first, but “fuzzy.” He said this could either mean that it was disintegrating or it was just too far away from the probe.

It’s very hard not to be worried. I haven’t really been nauseas at all and even my boobs aren’t really sore anymore. We don’t have another ultrasound next Tuesday.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Hoping in SD: I am so sorry and am going to be praying that your little one shows a hb on Saturday. I know that is going to be a long wait for you. Keep thinking positive!((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))

siouxsie: Welcome to the board. If you have a chance, scroll back to page 1 of this thread, b/c there has been quite a bit of discussion regarding what the early u/s will show you. I think you are too early for the hb, but a few lucky have seen a hb this early.
Also, what type of progesterone are you on?

dcdiva, how was your u/s?

Babyloves and SilverAngel: What wonderful news for both of you. yeah!

Babyloves and kimmysq: thank you for your well wishes. Today has totally sucked, to put it bluntly.

Babyloves: Is this the first time you have seen the babies heartbeats? How far along were you when you saw them first?

The doctor and nurse didn't seem to be hopeful, so I'm trying to see if I should be at this point.

kimmysq: Thanks for your quick and encouraging response. I read through the entire list and there seems to be quite an array of experiences. I'll try to chill out. It's just hard to think about anything else.

My progesterone are vaginal suppositories. I don't know the dosage off hand, but I can check if you want. I started them the day of the transfer.

Hopeful in SD: I cannot tell you how sorry I am. I know what it's like to be in a pregnancy that's not doing what it should and how hard it is to wait and hope and how crazy you can drive yourself. But just think about this as long as there is still hope, how ever small it might be, it's still hope. Hang in there and know that we're all here for you. To answer your question I'm 7 weeks today.

Babyloves: Congradulations on your heartbeats today. So happy for you!!!And no I'm not dismissed yet. They want to see me for another two weeks. One u/s @ 8 then 9 weeks and I'm done. They said to make an appointment with my OB for three weeks from today. I was so relieved when they said I could come in next week for an u/s. I told the doc that if he had said anything later then next week I would have asked to come in sooner because I know me and if I don't have constant reassurance that the babies are ok, I'll have my self convinced that I'm not pregnanct anymore because they ate eachother or somthing.

Are anyone else having twins finding it hard to eat? Besides the total lack of appetite, I just can't seem to get enough calories in for carrying twins (All the sites say a min 2,700 calories a day) because when I do eat I get really disgusted and just have to stop. Besides that I feel so jittery and nervous as I eat. I'm worried because I know I'm not getting even 1,700-2,000 calories a day. Any suggestions ladies?

Praise God we saw the heartbeat!!! My doctor said my little bean is right on track and measuring at 7 weeks like it's suppose to. He was really surprised given a week ago today we saw nothing but an empty sack. DH and I were so relieved! It was so exciting to see the HB. Of course we are not out of the woods yet but it was a major milestone and I am pleased as punch! My RE is actually releasing me to my OB. He gave me a referral to let the OB know what was going on and the details of the ultrasound and the EDD and he said he was going to personally call him as well. He said he wouldn't release me until he approved of my OB choice because he didn't want me going to anyone that wasn't top notch so I thought that was nice. They are going to start weaning me off the estrogen put I have to take the endometrim inserts until I hit 12 weeks. I am going to try and get in with the OB in the next two weeks.

Thanks to all of you ladies for your amazing support this last week. It really helped me through.

Silverangel - I know how ecstatic you are cause I am in the same boat! congrats on your two healthy HBs.

Hopeful - I am so sorry to hear your news. I honestly don't think you are out yet. Did you see the yolk sac? Do you have a tilted uterus. There is a reason they don't have the rest of the world go in for the first ultrasound until at least 8 weeks. Our bodies vary so much that some things just don't apply to all. Go look on the misdiagnosed miscarriage site. You can get some information there and see if anything applies to you. I will continue to pray for you and please let us know what happens on Saturday. I went from nothing to measuring on schedule in a week so a lot can change quickly.

NGDO - you are cracking me with the sex. I guess I will have to live vicariously through you for awhile as my life has been pretty uneventful in that department!

Jenniferdp - welcome to the group and congrats on the twins!!

Babyloves - so happy you saw two strong HB today. Twins is such an amazing thing. Hopefully I will get to meet you in person some day since we are local.

Siouxsie - welcome to the board. Please go back and read my posts so you can see I was in your boat last week but everything has turned out fine as of today. 5w5d is still really early to see the HB so hang in there. Try and stay positive and don't obsess about it. Keep us posted.

Dcdiva: Congrats and thank you. I did go to that website and as far as I know I do not have a titled uterus. However, in several places it states you may not see the heartbeat until the embryo measures 5mm ... mine was under that if I remember correctly.

The weird thing is, they didn't do any blood work. If the pregnancy truly isn't viable, shouldn't my hcg being going down? I may ask Ghost/IVF nurse about that.

I changed my appointment to Friday, as today was too stressful.

Hope everyone else is doing well!

kimmy - are the sea bands helping? I am using so many things for m/s I dont know what helps anymore :-) I am drinking lemonade and gingerale. Eating various ginger products. I also got preggie drops from babiesrus. Im doing all of it!! To answer your other question, i am doing inserts twice a day. We have our 2nd u/s tommorow so im hoping we see a hb! I went a bit early for last us but now i will be 7 weeks tommorow. DH is out of town so i have to go alone and then leave straight for another work trip. Wish me luck. I hope you feel better!

Hi Ladies,

Quick question for you. When you did your first u/s did they do blood work? Especially for those of you who weren't able to see the hb, etc? My clinic didn't do any blood work today and now I'm wondering. Thanks!

I had blood drawn for HCG w/ first U/S. (But, my doctor is doing a study to determine if other hormones beside HCG indicate early pregnancy so they may have wanted the blood for that.)
