Cycle buddy and question about HCG Shot.

Post by onesweetangel »

I started my injections today (150 -follistim). Is anyone interested in cycling together?

Also, can anyone let me know what questions I should be asking my doctor during my treatment?
Can anyone tell me how much Ovidril or HCG they were given during their treatment. My hubby and I had a failed attempt at IVF. The docs said he realized after the retrieval that our eggs were not matured. I believe I did not have enough Ovidril considering it does complete the maturation stage of the eggs.
During this IUI he gave me the same dosage of Ovidril and I am worried the same thing might happen.
Does anyone know what determines how much Ovidril is given?

Hi there
Sorry I am not on a cycle but just wanted to wish you luck with your iui. I was on 1000 iu hcg just before my iui and also took 1000 iu every third day until my beta test. I'm not sure how they work out how much they give you. I have no fertility issues so that is what the lowest does must be. Sorry i can't help with the Ovidril as I was on Pregnyl.

Kerry thank you for your well wishes and CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR BFP :D .
I spoke with my doc to find out how they determine how much HCG to give and he said they will give 500 units of Ovidril if a woman is obese or has a lot of body fat. I got 250 when I did IVF and I got the same dosage with this IUI. I am praying for the best.
I have a blocked tube ( left ), so my IUI will be on the right side. So far I have 2 follies measuring 10 ( been on injections for 5 days). My nurse said I had multiple little follies that all measured less than 9. So thats where we are right now. So far everything seems to progressing positively.

After they did your IUI what was the next step until your prego test? What happens after you found out you were prego?

I wish you sooo much happiness with being a new mom, I'm sure you will be GREAT!

Hi ya
After my iui I just took it easy that day (no heavy lifting etc) but the next day I just carried on as usual. I continued taking Pregnyl (hcg) every third day and also progestrone every day. Because of the hcg in my system they didn't do a beta test until 17 post iui. They said they wait that long as the hcg in your system can give a false postive. Once I got a bfp I stayed on progestrone for three months. I didn't go back to the clinic until 7 weeks when I had a scan to see if there was a heartbeat. After the scan I was finshed with the clinic and found a doctor in my area to take over. I had another scan at 18 weeks to see how things were going. I have a 11 yr old son so I've been through it all before.

Is there any way they can unblock your tube?

hi onesweetangel-
I am also currently on shots (I'm using the Gonal F pen) and since its my third try with injections + IUI they started me at 112units per night but last time we got up to 150per day. Every two days I'll go in for bloodwork and ultrasound, just like the last two times (I previous did 5 IUIs with Clomid). Then I'll use the Ovidrel trigger shot (I forget the dose I used, but I'll let you know this time.)
Everything you mentioned sounds right on track. So we'll have to keep in touch since I'm just a couple days behind you. In my previous two cycles it took over 10 days of shots to get viable follies before inseminating. And during 2ww I didn't do anything abnormal except no strenuous exercise or pain meds (like tylenol for a headache or anything,) and no alcohol (but that goes without saying for basically the last 3 years for me, because that's how long we've been ttc!!!) Ok, keep me posted.

Thanks Kerry that is just what I needed to know. I was wondering what happens post insemination. My mind tends to wander and what goes on?

How many times did you do IUI before you got BFP? Did you try any other fertility treatments

We opted to go straight to treatments instead of getting my tubes unblocked because we were really anxious to start a family. However, if this cycle does not work, I am going to consider unblocking my tube and trying naturally since DH has no issues.

not hopeless how long have you been on the injections this cycle? My doc did say something to me about the possibility of being on the injections for more than 10 days because they want to try to make sure my eggs are matured this time.

I had an appt today and I have 3 follies on the right side ( 2 are 11 & 1 is 10). There are follies on the left but we are not focusing on them since my left tube is blocked.

Not hopeless I wish you lots and lots of luck on this cycle. Baby dust to you. I will keep you posted on my progress and you do the same also. Its great to talk to someone who is going through the same thing.

Kerry CONGRATULATIONS on your pregnancy I know you have to be so happy.

Oh yeh not hopeless I am on 250 Ovidril. My doc said they give 500 when a woman has alot of body fat or is obese.

BABY DUST TO BOTH OF US....:)

Hi ya
We did try isci because of male factor but they were unable to retrieve an normal sperm. So that is what lead us to iui using a donor and we got a bfp on our second try at it. I did ask my doctor why it didn't work the first time when I had three mature follies. He explained that your body usually only releases one follie for each cycle and that follie my not contain an egg.

Have you asked your doctor what will happen if your egg releases on your blocked side. There maybe a way of getting you to release on your good side?

Hi not hopeless I glad to hear that you are cycling again and can't wait to hear that bfp!!!

I really do feel for you girls as I know how stressful that whole process is.

Kerry, two tries and you hit gold. Wow getting the BFP must have been a dream come true for you and hubby.

If my eggs are released on the blocked side the cycle will be canceled. I actually have 3 follies in the left ovary ( blocked) but they are not even considering them because it is blocked :( ! Funny thing is I read that a woman can have follicles on one side and O on the opposite side. Something about the egg jumping to the opposite fallopian tube. You ever hear about that? Anyway, I have 3 follies in the right ovary which is NOT blocked so that is what my docs are planning to do the IUI on. I was told that if I got more than 4 follies on the good side my cycle would also be canceled. So I am praying for one more good follie and NO MORE :)!

I hope I am as blessed as you were and not have to go through too many cycles. Yes you are so right this is one stressful experience. It messes with your emotions and mentally it is hard also. So I'm praying that hubby and I are successful with this cycle. :)

When is your due date? Are you having a natural birth or are you having a cesarean? :)

Yea I consider myself lucky to get it on the second go. My doctor said that it shouldn't have taken any more than that as I have no fertility issues (thank god). No I haven't heard of follies jumping to the other side. I'm not really sure how that could happen? One thing my doctor did do that you may consider is that he did a ultrasound just before the iui was done. He did this to see if a follie had ruptured. This then means that a follie had released an egg.

My due date is the 2nd Jan but who knows my son was three weeks overdue so I guess they come when they are ready. I am going for a natural birth, well natural but with drugs to help me along the way!! I had my son naturally but it took 20 hrs to get him out. I am excited to meet my bub but the birthing process I am not looking forward too!!

What date are you looking at doing your iui?

Kerry I am going to ask my docs about doing a u/s before the iui to see if it ruptured. That sounds like a good way to time the IUI. Thanks :D !

I have not been told my IUI date yet I just came back from bw/us so I guess it all depends on the size of the follies. How long were you on injections before you had your IUI? When we did IVF I was on injections for 12 days, so I figured I would probably be on it for about the same. I asked my doc how long I would be on the injections and he said no way to say how long it all depends on the maturity of the follies. I heard they grow between 1-3 a day and last nurse report said that I had 2 follies at 11 and one at 10 on my good side. We will see what they are as of today's report.

Hey my B-day is Jan 1 :D so me and you bub will be a day apart. Wouldn't it be something if you went in on the New Year. I have heard a due date is just an estimate because when those babies are ready to come out they will....NO MATTER WHAT.

Whoa you had natural birth with no drugs for 20 hrs. how brave you are (lol)! I can not imagine being in natural child birth pain for 20 hrs. (eek)! What made you take that route and why didn't you take that route this time. Well I am sure the 20 hrs of pain was one reason :) !

Hi

I started injections on day 3 of my cycle and the iui was done on day 14. When I had my son we lived in a small town so the hospital was tiny. 12 yrs ago you didn't have the drugs available to take like there is today. I did have some gas to help me along the way. I would rather someone just knock me out and wake me when it's over

Quite offen you will end up with one bigger follie than the others. This usually ends up being the leading follie and the one that will release.

Thanks for the in site Kery about the lead follie. I was not aware that one follie would release just like my natural cycle.
I started injections on day three of my cycle also. So far I have been on injections for 10 days. Funny enough I am not in a rush to stop the injections ( I'm use to them:). I've grown to have a lot of patience with this experience. When I did IVF I moaned and groaned almost through all the injections, so this time around me and DH are not as frustrated :).

Anyway I have another appt. tomorrow I will let you know how I make out.

Good luck to you Mom!

hi angel-
I started injections this cycle on 8/28. I'm taking Gonal F 112units until they tell me otherwise... I go in for blood and ultrasound every other day. And Ugh! I hope they don't want me to come in on 9/8 because I have a business trip that I have to leave at 540am.
I am usually on injections for more than 10 days to ensure the follies are over 12mm. My clinic likes them to be around 18 to induce ovul. Anyhow, I, too will be on 250 Ovidrel and they usually have me take it at night and then go in (not the next morning for IUI but the morning after that. You'll have to let me know how many follies you have and when you're going in for IUI. We'll be so close to each other this cycle.
I think it sounds good to try and unblock the other tube, but first of all we're going to keep positive thoughts for each other on this cycle and see what happens. Also, how many times do you think you'll do injections with IUI? will you be considering IVF? Our insurance requires a minimum of 3 cycles Clomid + IUI, and 3 cycles of injections + IUI. We did 5 mths Clomid and now this is our 3rd cycle with shots.

Not hopeless we are very close to each other this cycle. I have also been going in every other day for BW/US. However I had an appt today and for some reason they want me to come in for bw/us tomorrow. Right now I have 5 follies on the right side and the lead follie is 17. My estridol is 709 I wonder if that is the reason I have to go back tomorrow again. How many follies do you have so far and what size are they? I am on 150 follistim, I was on 75 for 2 days out of the 10 days I have been on meds.

You have to keep me posted on your progress. Your so right about focusing on this cycle and being positive. I wish the best to both of us. I pray that we are both successful. I will most likely try IUI again if we are not successful this cycle. We did IVF in July :(!
DH and I are ready to expand our family so we are going to continue IUI/ IVF or natural again. Our insurance allows unlimited IUI'S and four IVF egg retrievals.

Again I am going to pray for us both to have a BFP this month.

Lots of Baby dust for both of us.

Angel-

Our insurance also allows unlimited IUIs but we've already done 5. So after this month (our 6th) I'm going to look into IVF. But for now I just take it day by day.

Your meds sound right on. My first cycle they started me at 75 and kept upping it every few days. Don't be worried that they want you to come back two days in a row. My phlebotomist said that is common when I went in yesterday. They said I have 3 follies on each side but they're still less than 12 in size. I'm only on cycle day 6. So I know I have atleast 5 or 6 more days of injections and then Ovidrel.

How are you feeling? With Clomid I used to have night sweats and mood swings. With the injections I just have the mood swings and a little bloating. I can't complain. And its all for a good cause. LOL.
