Ghost-
I am 43 years old and just had my second IVF egg retrival. They were able to get 16 eggs of which 11 were mature and 10 fertilized. The retrival went well although I was more sore this time but thought that was because last time they only recovered 9 eggs. I had a strange reaction I was wondering if you ever had at your clinic. I could not urinate, my bladder produced urine but I could not get it out. We called my dr. who said this was sometimes caused by the anesteica (sorry spelling) causing the muscle in the bladder to freeze. I went to the ER, they emptied the bladder and I thought everything would go back to normal when everything was out of my system. The next morning though I had the same issue and my Dr. wanted me to come in right away. They once again emptied my bladder but decided to leave the cathered in till this Saturday so swelling would go down. They want to take the catherter out this Saturday and do the ET. I am a little scared at this point about tranferring the eggs.
Would you suggest freezing the whole cohort and doing a FET later or do you think I should proceed as planned. I had my egg retrival on Wednesday so the eggs would be three days on Saturday. I thought about pushing the Dr. to wait till 5 days but I am unsure if we should wait since I am older.
This is my last IVF trying to use my own eggs as we are planning to proceed with donor eggs after this.
First have you every heard of this problem, does it clear up?
Second, what would recommend for the egg retrival?
As for freezing, I'd base a decision like that on their most current success rates with fresh and frozen embryos. I'm not sure the catheter, if it's still needed, would be any problem for conception.
Avoid IVF and surrogacy in Ukraine. Ukrainian centers pay shills to post here under numerous sock accounts pretending to be patients in Ukraine. Centers using such deceptive advertising cannot be trusted and should be avoided.
WindyCity, I just wanted you to know that I had a the same thing happen to me twice. The only difference is mine was not doing ivf. Happened after giving birth to my son as well as after surgery for endometriosis. I believe this happens from the swelling. The swelling will go down and you should be fine. It sure was painful to not urinate. I hope you heal soon and get your transfer. I send lots of positives your way.

Colesmom- Thank you for your response. This has been an added complication I had never even thought of. We did the ET today and all went well. My eggs actually were really great quality this time and we are going to freeze five based on day 5 results. I still had the same problem after the egg tranfer today so my RE sent me directly to a urologist in the same building. He said he thinks that the anesticia used for the egg retrival froze my bladder muscle and then the urine fluid built up in the bladder extending it too far before I realized the severity of the problem and could get something done.. This morning I needed to add water again to my bladder for the tranfer so we once again englarged it. I almost died when once again I was unable to urinate. The urologist wants me to stay on the catheter till next Tuesday and come back in. Not the worst thing in the world to happen but as you say not comfotable. I am worried that this will not clear up. Did your condition clear up and go back to normal? How long did it take? I will never take bathroom stops for granted again. Thanks again for your response and good luck!! This is my second IVF and everything (except the issue) went really well.
I wish I can tell you how long it will take,I just don`t know. It matters on what the cause it. Mine was do to pressure and swelling. Went away within 24hrs after catheter. I always think, is it ever going to happen again. I do hope you feel better soon. Glad to hear the rest of your cycle is going so well. I pray you get that BFP so you can relax and be done with ivf for now.
Best of Wishes to you.
