FSH Levels

Post by kimmysq »

Hi ladies.

First, congrat's to all you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yeah!!!!
I have a good friend with a high FSH level. She is seeing a RE who has told her he can get her FSH down. He is having her take meds and doing IUIs. I would love some feedback to share with her.
My RE (yes, I have had my fair share of IVF's) prefers if the patient go straight to IVF. Anyway, we would love some advice!!! Please! Can you please share some stories or advice regarding high FSH and what you did to get pg.
Thank you!

My FSH is 12.8. I saw 3 REs. All said it was impossible to get FSH to go down. They said it's only as good as your highest FSH even though it will sometimes test lower depending on where in the cycle you test. All three recommended that my best chance was to go straight to IVF, as soon as possible. Many clinics don't like to treat elevated FSH because it brings their stats down so she'll want to look for one that specializes in DOR. I'm lucky because I responded to the drugs well. If I were her, I'd seek another opinion. Time is of the essence, as they say.

I second what Siouxie said. Maybe your friend isn't comfortable with IVF? I think that's important to think about b/c it's not a decision some people feel ok about. For us, I wish we had moved to IVF sooner. My highest fsh was 11.4 and we messed around w/clomid for a cycle and injectibles for a cycle. Then we had trouble getting to egg retrieval b/c my body wouldn't respond. All the while I was getting older and older.

We should've gone straight to IVF. I don't know the specifics of your friend's situation but that was our experience.

Your friend might ask to have her AMH tested. That's supposed to be another good measure of ovarian reserve. For us, that was the eye opener b/c although my fsh was only mildly elevated my AMH was way off. It's also a measurement that doesn't vary from cycle to cycle so it's very useful information.

Also, as Siouxie said, you're only as good as your highest fsh. If it's up it's up.
