38 years old, starting IVF next month

Post by Josefin »

Would like contact with people in similar situation. Have tried inseminations twice some years ago, both failed. Natural pregnancy last year with miscarriage in week 6. Very, very sad as it was a fantastic feeling after trying for so long. Seems, I have no major problems except for age but husband has low mobility of sperms but enough to still be possible with assistance (IVF). Starting birth control pills end of coming week and IVF is planned next month.

Would like to share experiences and also discuss how to cope with work during the IVF.

Welcome to the board. I;m very sorry to hear about your miscarriage.

If you go under the infertility section on the message board you can join the Aug/Sept group. They are a great group of women in various stages of the IVF process.

I am in the middle of my third attempt. The first two ended in chemical preg. It can be a difficult process.

In terms of working, my manager was flexible with my being late some mornings due to doctor appointments. I took a few days off after the egg retrival and egg transfer. There was some discomfort after the ER but not too bad.

I hope everything works for you.

Hi Josefin,
I read your email, and I'm in a similar situation. I'm 39 years old. Had one pregancy, but miscarried at 8 weeks. This was 2 yrs ago. My husband and I have been trying for 8 yrs. We then did Clomid for 8 months, and recently went to a fertiity specialist. I had a polypectomy done. I am now going to a fertility center. I started my period today, and will start with my blood work in 3 days. I got my shipment of meds this week. Now I'm just waiting to take my blood work.
I would be happy to join in your journey with IVF. It's all brand new to me, and it's good to know i'm not alone out there.
I also would like some help on how ot cope with work. This is a big worry for me, as my job can be stressful at times, and i'm naturally an emotional person.
All the best to you!

Hi Lisa,
sorry for not responding earlier, have been on vacation, very nice and relaxing.
Sorry to hear about you miscarriage. Where are you now in the cycle ?
I am on my last week of birth control pills and will start stimulation next weekend. I have read up a lot about acupunture as I have heard that it can improve chances - however after a lot of reading it seems that there is so far no scientific proof that it increases your chances, however results indicate that there may be a positive impact but it still needs to be statistically proven.
I will call my doctor tomorrow for advice - I think I will try it.
I am also planning to speak to my boss this week as I have a very hectic job with many travels and I want to ensure that I can remain calm and here in Switzerland throughout the treatment. Not sure yet what I will say (do not want to say that I am doing an IVF as it may fail as previous treatments) - what have you done with your work and do you plan to take time off?
Wishing you all the best!
