Lostgirl - I hope you have this baby early so that your pain will be gone. Sounds terrible! We missed the most recent breastfeeding class at our local hospital, but my local friends said it wasn't as helpful as the nurses at the hospital or the local la leche league women. Breastfeeding is really popular here in Ithaca so much so that people feed the babies in public with nothing to 'hide' the baby. Not my plan. I got a cute cover that I really hope to be able to use.

Last night about 3am I thought I would be spending today in the hospital because I had 2 rather painful cramping episodes that lasted ~30s each and were 30 min apart. However, nothing after that (no sleep either...to wound up) so here I sit getting ready to go to yoga class and then work. I lost the mucus plug this morning (lot more 'stuff' than I thought it would be) The whole night was wierd because I couldn't sleep for more than 1.5-2 hours at a time and previously I could go at least 3-4 hours. CRAZY. I strongly suggested that DH make some sub plans for tomorrow. I hate for him to miss the 2nd day of school, but I would hate to be alone more..not that he would skip out if I was definately in labor.

Melissa,
The breastfeeding class last night rocked. It was held at Real Birth in Manhattan and taught by this sassy teacher named Ayelet. I loved her and her no-nonsense attitude.

WE got taught the Australian latch which apparently is the way to go if you want to minimize boob damage and nipple hurt. What amazed me is the videos she showed of just how much of your boob goes into the baby's mouth. The nipple is at the bad of the baby's mouth if you're doing it right!

Anyway, I too live in a place that's pretty cool with breastfeeding, but expect to meet my fair share of challenges. That's cool. I went to BabiesRUs to choose a formula in case i have to supplement and was so freaked out by the corn syrup solids and trans fats I saw on the label that I am not sure what formula will be our backup. I don't eat corn syrup so I don't feel comfortable starting my baby on a formula where that's the second ingredient.

Anyway, yes, I cannot wait for labor. You saw the mucus plug!!! You're very close... When is your actual due date? Lostgirl

MLB - Congrats hun on the wonderful news from your U/S. Oh my God. I think I would have freaked outto see the mucus plug in the toilet. Did you call your doc because I thought they wanted to check you if something like that happened. I have read that you can lose the plug and it still be a few weeks before the baby could arrive but I also read that it could be days after the plug is lost before the baby could arrive. When is your due date.

Caligirl and Elca - Where are you ladies? You are only days away. Anthing happening. Please post to let us know that you are both okay and to give us an update.

CT - So glad to hear that you are getting along really well. Did you get a epi or a spinal. I had a epi with my previous c-section and felt crappy and could feel a little bit of what they were doing. I was gonna ask for a spinal this time if they would allow it but I also read that you can get these aweful headaches from the spinals and I don't want that during this joyful time. Glad that DH is able to be home with you for a good while. I know that helps alot. My DH is also taking paternity leave so we will be enjoying our time also. Next week is his last week and the week that the baby is due we have appointments, last minute baby things, massages, pedicures and just good fun of doing things together the week that the baby is due. My family is having my shower this Saturday so that should be a fun day. My job had one for me last week and we got tons of stuff. With the shower this week, we will be stocked for a good while. My in-laws who are way out in Simmy Valley, CA have sent many babiesrus gift cards so we have those that we can use later on when something is needed.

Lost Girl -- What is happening with you. We took the breastfeeding class a few weeks ago and was shown awesomes videos too. I am so torn as to which I'll do. I just know that if it doesn't work out that I would easily give up. Ii have breast implants also and have read many different things that say when you have implanst that your supply is low. The breastfeeding teacher didnt beleive that but who knows. Also when you talked about looking for formula just incase you have to supplement, doesn't the pediatrition tell you what milk the baby should have is supplementing is needed. I didn't think you get to choose that yourself. They usually give a recommendation based on the test that they run on the baby. At least I think that's what they do here in Maryland. Well any symptoms yet. I have been having Braxton Hicks contractions like crazy. Nothing very painful though. I'm hoping that your bundle comes on the 19th also. I and counting down.

As for me. I am back to my OB tomorrow for my next appointment. I should get the results from my Group B strep. Other than that, just hanging out and waiting. I hope next week zooms by because the following week DH and I hav alot of fun stuff planned before the Friday when the baby is arriving. We're going to dinner, to the movies, last minute shopping and just some fun things together.

Esperanza - Thanks for hanging around. Glad to here that your U/S was good. I am soooooo happy for you. Take it easy. You will be extremely tired in the beginning so just do what your body tells you to do. Sleep as much as you need to. I did and it has all paid off. Just remember, Baby first. Two more weeks for me and counting. I'm so happy.

To answer your questions: my due date is the 6th (Saturday!!), pretty much 1 day away now. I was not told to call if I lost the mucus plug (because you are right Doreen, it could still be a long time) but I am supposed to call if my water breaks. That said, I have been really crampy (front and back pain) and uncomfortable all day. I've been crampy for 2 months, but usually Tylenol takes care of it and that hasn't worked today. I think I am in pre-labor which can last a really long time. I have an appointment with the midwife at 11 tomorrow, so I'll just hold off calling them unless something dramatic happens in the meantime. My instructions were to call if my water broke or if contractions are 5 minutes apart. I am trying to be conservative because I know people that have been sent home from the hospital and I don't want that to happen to us. Will keep you posted...

Hello Ladies!
Lately I have been MIA. I am done with my work, so I have to stay at home most of the time now.

Michele,
congratulation with a nice delivery. Now you have your Ella into your arms. It is so exciting :!: Your delivery-pregnancy worries are over now.

MLB,
I am so happy for you and your baby. It seems like you had a horrible few days of uncertainty; and I am glad that everything is cleared out at this moment. And look at you, you have gone into labor. At least you have started to have some prelabor changes.

washingtonda,
answering to your question. No, nothing is happening with me :( I had my last appointment today - everything looks the same, no progress. I don't have any changes, except, may be, the increased number of Braxton Hicks. I hope something will change soon; other way, I will be induced. I have scheduled NST the next Tuesday.

LostGirl,
I hope you will go into labor soon enough, and resolve you sciatica problems shortly after that.

Sorry, if I forgot somebody.

Well...I am finally in labor. It is taking both longer than I hoped. My first contractions were Thurs am around 3 but stopped quickly. Then thurs pm from ~9-11 then Fri am from 4-now. I am 5 cm dialated and 100% effaced, but was sent home until my contractions were more regular. "Come back when you are in active labor" I was told. Of course when we left the hospital it got much worse to the point where I feel nauseous when one hits. I'll keep you posted.

MLB -- Congrats. I'm hoping you are not giving us an update yet because you are back at the hospital. Please let us know what is happening. Good luck with the delivery.

Our Sept born is starting to get hot. Elca and Caligirl shouldn't be far behind.

I had my doc appointment today and everything is as scheduled. My Group B strep did come back positive but he is not at all concerned since there is no plans for me to have a vaginal birth anyway. He mentioned that with a c-section they give antibiotics anyway as a surgery precautionary measure so I should be fine. I asked for a guess of how big the baby might be today he said not very big maybe 6 pounds but said it is always hard to tell. I had estimated that she would be between 6.6 and 6.8 so we will see. We have two weeks to go.

Good luck ladies and let's s stay connected.

Well our son has arrived. After our 11:30 scheduled to the midwife we were told we could go to the hospital if we wanted, or home to wait until contractions were a little closer together. Since the office is across the street from the hospital, we went to the hospital. They sent me away at 1:30 but I was back by 4. Of course as we were driving away the contractions got orders of maginitude more intense. They were never really close (5 min or less) until after I was more than 8 cm dialated. When we came back we were admitted and I progressed to 6 cm...I was dissapointed, but it goes pretty quick from that point generally. They broke my water and I went to 8cm in an hour and was able to handle it without pain meds. However, the baby was descending but not straight, so I got 'stuck' at 8cm and the contractions were 5 min long and REALLY painful. I didn't scream, but I did a lot of pleading to whomever to make it stop, please. I requested an intrathecal, but the anastheologist was in surgery and it took him 1.5 hours to get here. That was the most painful 1.5 hours of my life to be sure. By the time he got here I was fully dialated, but still took the meds to get a break from the pain before it was time to push. The relief was immediate.

MLB,
Congratulations ! I'm thrilled that your son has arrived, and it sounds like you were a trooper. I assume the pushing wasn't a problem since you hardly mentioned it, but yeah, it sounds like there's no getting around the fact that transition - or that last bit to 10cm - is excruciating.
Get some rest (if you can) and try to enjoy this crazy new shifting world. Lostgirl

MLB -- CONGRATS!!! CONGRATS!!! CONGRATS!!!! When you feel up to it, please tell us more. How much did the baby weight? how long is he? who does he look like? We want to hear it all. I am so happy for you and DH. I knew when you said that you were 5 cm and theye were sending you home and that you would be right back.

I was very suprised to even hear that you were 5cm dialated and they still sent you home. What were they thinking. It sounded as if someone didn't want to be bothered for a while.

Anyway it all worked out. Sorry to hear that you had to go through so much pain before they would finally give you the meds. I know what the pain of labor feels like. You don't have to tell me how bad it is.

MLB- Congrats! Welcome to the wonderful world of motherhood. Isn't it amazing. Dh and I were euphoric for the first few days at the hospital, we just couldn't get over how amazing it was, even by scheduled c-section. I can only imagine what a vaginal birth would have been like. And sorry to hear about the pain, but i bet it was the fastest going away pain ever, once you heard that little bundle cry. What is his name?

Cali and Elca- You girls are close or past due at this point??? Any signs yet, or have dr's mentioned inducing? Keep us updated.

Washingtonda and Lostgirl- You are both scheduled for c-sections on or around the 19th, right? Less than 2 weeks away. You must be excited. I can't wait to hear everyone's birth stories.

Ella is doing great. She still sleeps alot, which is hard to get used to, because dh and I just end up hanging around all day, which makes us even sleepier, but it is fun. We just increased her food a little bit b/c she seemed to still be hungry after feedings. She is still letting us sleep a lot at night too, last night she had a 5 hr stretch, but then followed that up with only 2 hrs, so we are trying to learn her schedule, which seems to change by the day. And now she is starting to fuss a little, so I will catch up with you all later....
