Ghost, I know you have read about the recent loss of my twins at 19 weeks, but I am functioning a little better this week and have a question for you. How long should we wait before trying again? We have 3 frozen embies and would like to try FET as soon as possible. We are of course very apprehensive of multiples given our recent diagnosis of transfusion syndrome and the subsequent loss of our babies, so we would most likely only transfer one embie for the FET. My OB told me to wait a minimum of 3 months, but given our situation, I'm wondering if we need more time for my body to return to normal. What does your clinic recommend in similar situations? Can you give me an idea of the success rates for FET with only one embie transferred? Thanks. Angela

I'm not Ghost obviously, but after my history (see signature below), I highly recommend you wait more than 3 months. It takes a lot longer than I realized to get the drugs out of your body and your hormones back to normal. I know you are anxious to try again, I am, too, but give your body and your spirit some time to heal. Maybe 5 or 6 months? Your probably aghast at the thought, but it flies by! I was going to try again in September, but it snuck up on me! So we decided to wait until November, just to give myself a little more time. I STILL can feel the lumps from the PIO shots. Grrrr.....
I am sorry for your loss; what a blow that has been. Good luck! Just remember, you want your body in the best possible condition it can be in so that you are capable of carrying a pregnancy to term. Take care of yourself and be healthy. Then hop back on the crazy train of IVF.

After a stim cycle, we often do FET the very next month. We often plan them that way (with no fresh transfer, all embryos frozen).
I'm not sure how long we wait after a pregnancy (or pregnancy loss). I'll see if I can ask the doctors today. I doubt it's more than 3 months.
At my clinic, the transfer of just one thawed blastocyst would probably achieve a live birth rate in the 30-35% range. That's why we usually use two, to get the rate up. That's also why we have de-emphasized blastocyst freezing. What stage of embryos did you have frozen?

Baylorbear - sorry to crash in on your thread and I hope that you are feeling a bit better. I can only imagine what you have been through and I mean it when I say that you are in my prayers. I myself was 9 weeks pregnant and had a scan yesterday and there was no heartbeat. I am now waiting for a natural miscarriage and going nuts basically! I am now on the boards now trying to get myself geared up for the next round. It is the only way to cope.
fyi - I had a miscarriage in July 2005 and I waited until December 2005 before I tried again. During this time, I did a huge detox to get all the meds out of my system, started doing acupuncture regularly, took a lovely holiday with my dh, started yoga, listened to a positive thinking hynhotherapy cd on a regular basis, got a bit of physio done on my back to straighten out the pelvis as I felt that I was 'out of sync' in that area, lost about 1 stone weight and got myself as fit as possible. I got pregnant with my daughter on that next round of ivf. You will know you are ready to go when you can take on those meds with a 'i can do it attitude' and the weepiness is out of your system.
Ghost - I am crashing this thread because I have a question about FETS and frozen blasts. Are you saying that success rate from FETS with frozen blasts is significantly lower than FETS with frozen d2 or d3 embies that you then grow to blasts and transfer or just transfer the d2 or d3? The reason I am asking is that I have 3 failed fets from frozen blasts and I still have 2 frozen blasts left.
Also, what meds do you use to support FET with frozen blast cycle?

4th IVF May 2009 mc at 9 weeks

5th IVF April 2011 BFN
I did fresh cycles back to back and got a BFP the second time. I don't think you need to cleanse the meds out of your system before you try again. If it makes you feel better, go for it, but as Ghost says I don't think you need to.
I had a M/C in March and my RE wanted to wait at least 1 normal AF. My AF didn't show up for 3 months so we didn't try a FET until August.

Hi Ghost, we have one 5-day and two 6-day blasts frozen. Does this improve our decrease our probable success rates for FET? Or the probability that the embies will survive the thaw?

Being that I wen through the same thing as you , it was about 3 1/2 months afterwards til I did a FET.
I bled for 6 weeks after delivery, then waited to have 2 regular periods, then could start the estrogen patches for the FET. Sounds like a long time, but you uterus and body need to return to normal before trying again.

Frozen blast work pretty well. Most clinics have switched over to blastocyst freezing.
By the way, I checked with a doctor about the waiting time. He said he only requires that his patients wait until the hCG has cleared and normal cycling returns.
