Anyone else on mandatory bedrest?

Post by cheryl010120 »

Hi Moms and Moms-to-be,

At 25 weeks I started having what I thought were braxton hicks contractions. I went in for observation because I have continued to throw up throughout my pregnancy and was concerned our little boy wasn't getting the proper nutrition.

They noted my small contractions and I went home with medicine for the other.

During that next week, the contractions were coming more often so I went back to the maternal obs. area of the hospital. I was having contractions every 5 mins and my cervix had begun to thin (it was pre-term labor). I started to bawl...to think of having a baby at 26 weeks was too scary for words.

They put me on magnisium and I was in the hospital for 5 days. Good news is that they sent me home on meds to keep the contractions at bay, but I'm on strict bedrest and only have "bathroom priveleges" - ha!

I'm a fairly active person and would love advice on things to do, ways to keep from being bored, and generally how to pass the time. I'm now a little over 27 weeks and will be on bedrest until our little one arrives.

Thanks in advance for your help/suggestions.

You poor poor thing. I'm 9 weeks 2 days along with twins and I'm terrified that they will put me on bed rest in the future. I would do it for my children in a heart beat but I could not imagine what a trial it would be. As far as keeping boredom away I have a few suggestions.
Rent movies, read great books, take up a craft you've always wanted to learn. Like needle point or crocheting.
Or you could just come on here and talk to us. We're a pretty active board.
Good luck in it all. I'll be keeping tabs on you.

urgh, bed rest sucks. I was on modified bed rest for 12 weeks with my last pregnancy and it was one of the most challenging times of my life. I remember the days dragging by and feeling so bored and impatient.
Some of the things I did to keep myself entertained was paint by numbers ( I know thats a wierd one but it takes time), reading, movies, TV......thats about it. I'm sorry you're in this situation. I do know that you'll always remember how awful it was but always be gald you did it. I gave birth to a healthy full term baby after being on modified bed rest. Good luck to you!
