The question of 'how am I' has a different answer depending on when you ask it. I am ok now, but was up from 11pm - 6:30am and a bit grumpy I must say. Andrew sleeps all day and is up most of the night. The nurse at the peds office says that this is developmentally normal (though didn't give me a biochemical reason for this), but it is sure rough on the old sleep patterns. It took about a week for the euphoria and excitement to wear off and for me to be able to to nap during the day. DH was home all last week and is just fabulous with the baby. He is so patient! My mom is here this week as DH had to go back to work. I am pretty nervous about flying solo next week. I don't have full-blown baby blues, but I am not as thrilled with him when he cries for a long time and then won't feed (falls asleep) but won't go down in a crib/bouncy chair/etc. Breastfeeding is going pretty well because he has a good latch - but it took a few days for the two of us to get him latched on correctly and my nipples are still healing! The nurses at my peds office are lactation consultants and taught me a ton! (and this is after reading books and watching videos and getting help from nurses in the hospital)
Elca - I am sure by the time you read this that you will be a new mom. Good luck with the first few days - they are fun!!
Doreen - only a few more days...can you believe that it is almost here?? It will be interesting to hear how this baby experience will be different than your previous ones.
Lostgirl - you are almost there and then your pain will go away and it will be a different type of pain....hope you go early.
Michelle - sounds like you guys are having fun. We haven't taken Andrew out in public yet, but maybe it is time. I'm so happy that your DH is so helpful.

Wow MLB so you're basically jetlagging. Night is day and day as night as far as the baby is concerned. I'm glad you got the hang of sleeping during the day. A friend gave me those eye covers that people wear on planes and I had to ask why; she said she used them for exactly that. Being able to shut out the sun to be able to sleep during the day because the baby loved sleeping during daylight hours and being awake at night for a while. Grr.
I hope it gets better soon.
Still no baby on my end. But s/he is huge! And man, the kicks and hiccups are so pronounced now as are the Braxton hicks. The best thing is that I am no longer working. Today is my first day of maternity leave, so I have been paying bills and putting my feet up and writing thank you notes.
I went to a wedding on Sat. which was super fun. I got to socialize something I haven't done since the sciatica hit, and well, take some sips of wine. It was lovely. Wedding was at 5. We left at 9. Home by 10. It was ideal, about 40 minutes from NYC so that's the only reason why it was possible.
Here's to hoping my baby is coming soon! All the best, Lostgirl

Well girls, it looks like everyone is having their own experiences. Whether its with the newborns that CT and MLB have and the aches and pains that Lost Girl and I are having.
I've been up since 7:30 pm yesterday. I took a nap yesterday afternoon. DH work me up around 7:30 for dinner and I have not been able to go back to sleep since. Just thinking of everything that we have going on over the next 4 days.
Lost Girl - I am having so many painful Braxton Hicks and kicks and pressure down below. Friday isn't getting here quick enough for me.
I hope all is good with ELCA and Caligirl. Haven't heard from them and those precious babies should be here by now.
I'll keep you guys posted on what's hapeening with me.

Hello Ladies,
I could not respond earlier and still very busy.
I went for induction on 11th. At 3 pm I have been started on Cervigel to ripen cervix. After a couple hours my contractions have started and waters broke. At 3 am the next day that Cervigel was removed and I have been started on Pytocin. At that moment I couldn't tolerate pain well so epidural was requested. After that the labor was smooth until the afternoon, when the OB told me that I stopped dilating at 9 cm and the probable cause is the size of the baby. She advised the C-section and DH and I decided it was a good decision. At the end (after 24 hours of being in labor) little baby Lucy was born at 9 lb. and 6 oz. I would never deliver this little one on my own without complications. So we are glad that everything went well and I am already home since the last evening and trying to adjust to my new role and trying to do a breast feeding, which is very-very difficult (not as I expected would be).
OK, Ladies. I wish everyone a beautiful time with new arrivals. I will try to be on thread more often but I am not sure it will be as frequent as before.
Elca.
Elca- Congrats on finally having baby Lucy. I am sorry you had to go through 24 hrs of labor just to get to a c-section, but i am glad everything turned out fine and you finally have your baby. Be sure to keep us posted on your first few days of motherhood.
Washingtonda- Just 3 more days! You must be crazy excited to be almost there. I am sure we will hear from you again before your go, but in case I don't get to post, good luck and let us know the good news as soon as you can.
Lostgirl- It should only be a few more days for you too, I hope for your sake. I am glad the sciatica seems to have subsided but I am sure you are pretty uncomfortable this late in the pregnancy. My c-section was scheduled for 9 days before my due date, and those last few days were wicked on my body, I can only imagine what it would have been like if I had to wait until my due date or even later...so hang in there, and good luck with the natural childbirth, I have so much admiration for people willing to try.
Cali- you must be a proud mom by now...just know we are thinking about you and hope to hear from you soon.
MLB- We are trying to get used to taking Ella out. It is hard though, there is no more just getting up and going. It takes a long time to get ready and be prepared for anything. Now I understand why people with kids are always running late to events. We just got back from our first trip to the beach. We live in a city right on long island sound and there is a beautiful boardwalk. It was such a nice day, so we decided to try out the stroller. It felt good to get out for a while, you should try it soon.
Everything else is going good. Dh and I are enjoying our time, and even though he still has over a month until he goes back to work, I am already dreading it. I wish we could just do this forever, but unfortunately the bills won't pay themselves. Financially, I could be a stay at home mom if I wanted to, but I feel like I need to contribute and put my degree's to work. I didn't go through all that schooling to stay at home forever, so I will probably start looking for a job after the new year.
Well, mom-in-law should be on her way, and I think dh and I are going to go out to dinner...I will enjoy my first sip of alcohol in over 10 months...talk to you all soon.

Hi girls -- Glad to hear that everyone is managing. I know that this is a long hard journey. We worked so hard to get these precious little ones here and than we have to work extra hard to adjust once they arrive.
Lostgirl -- I am keeping my fingers crossed that your little one shows his/her face sometime realy soon. I know you are probably at your wits end with pregnancy because I know I am.
Elca - Sorry to hear that you got to 9 cm and still had to do a c-section but that's how it works out sometime. Boy Lucy was a bigggggg baby. Did they tell you guys all along that she was gonna be so big. Well good luck with everything. I know it's a big adjustment but we have overcome the worst of it so in my mind if we survived the whole IVF process, we can definately be good parents. Keep us posted on how you, DH and baby Lucy are doing.
CT -- It sounds as if you are just enjoying life with your DH and little Ella. My DH started his paternity leave today and is off for 6 weeks. Im sure we will enjoy our time also.
Caligirl -- If you are out there, please post and let us know how you are doing. Hopefully the baby has arrived and you guys are resting confortably.
As for me. I have a doc appointment today (last one) whoo hooo!!! I'm real excited about that. DH and I are both getting mani's and pedi's today (my treat). Smile girls, he deserves it too. I haven't been the best company for him for the past nine months. Tomorrow we have a busy day with taking the dog to the kennel, pre-op appointment at the hospital, DH has paid for a 1 hour massage for me and we plan to have a very nice dinner out since it will probably be our last one for a little while once baby arrives.
Just two more sleeps for me and my little Michaela should be here. They plan to take her around 1:00pm on Friday so you girls wish me luck. I will log in and see how everyone is doing tomorrow night before going to bed and packing my laptop up for it's trip to the hospital. I will post a reply and pictures as soon as I'm able.
Good luck for to all of us for the rest of the week. You girls pray that for me that everything will go fine on Friday and that Michaela will be born a big healthy girl.
Much Luvs,
Doreen

WashingtonDA,
Yup, I'm finding the waiting game a little hard to take, but some afternoons I am enjoying having time to myself to read, or watch a movie. But still, enough already! The pressure down there is constant, the baby is soooo low. I just hope the ob-gyn tells me this morning that I've dilated some, and that this show gets on the road. My due date is tomorrow.
I would hate to have to be induced but will consider that option for week 41 or - god forbid - week 42. We'll see...
MLB, hope the jetlagging is getting better!
Michele, hope Ella is still a gem and you're still having fun.
Elca, I'd love to know why your docs wanted to induce you because that might be the path I'm on. I'm also carrying a big baby. But i'm 6 feet tall and so far the baby's head is fitting nicely into my pelvis so the hope is I'll be able to birth this baby. But of course, your story makes me think twice.
I hope your first days of motherhood are good.
Caligirl, any news?
Take care all... next ob-gyn appt is today. Maybe I'll post after. Lostgirl

Doreen and Lostgirl - ONE MORE DAY. Well 1 day for sure for Doreen and hopefully less for Lostgirl. I went to a prenatal yoga class the day I had my first contractions (that night) and I just remember that nothing felt good.
Elca - my lactation consultant told me to stay away from processed sugar to prevent mastitis....not sure if that is true, but I am following her orders - just thought I'd pass that along. Also, I learned that all parts of the aerola are not the same as far as getting milk out is concerned. It is important for your nipple to touch the top of baby's mouth and you should aim to get the bottom (part near baby's bottom lip) more in the mouth than the top...when you take your nipple back (he he) it should not be pinched. We achieve that about overall 1/2 the time now 13 days after birth. More often in the side lying position. GOOD LUCK. I am super happy to be breastfeeding but didn't anticipate how much extra burdon it puts on mom.....
Michelle - I think I'll take the little guy out today in the stroller. Also, I bought a ring sling and I can't tell you how much easier it makes taking him anywhere because that car seat is so heavy and cumbersome.
To everyone: I learned something the hard way yesterday: 12 days after delivery I had REALLY intense cramping (like 8cm dialated cramping) for 45 minutes - the whole episode lasted over an hour - and was told that my cervix was dialating to pass a really big blood clot. I haven't seen said clot, but the midwife said that the area where the placenta was attached sloughs off (or something) between 10-14 days after birth. WHY didn't anyone tell me this before? So, heads up. Michelle, guess you are past this happily.
Well, last night was a rough one. She just did not want to sleep. It seemed like everytime I put her down in the bassinett, she was screeching within minutes. I tried everything, feeding, diapering, holding, the swing, the bouncy chair, nothing worked. She finally got tired around 4:30 and I was able to sleep for a few hours. I hope that doesn't continue.
Melissa- I never heard about the blood clot, but maybe b/c I had a c-section they get everything out then??? I had some mild cramping, but it always seemed to be attributed to bowel, which was the same during pregnancy. Everytime I thought a cramp might be a braxton hicks, it wasn't, so I never officially experienced a contraction, that I know of.
Washingtonda and Lostgirl- Just one more day now! Lostgirl, give us an o/b update if you can, we are all hopeing you don't go much past your date. Washingtonda- enjoy today, it sounds like you and dh have some nice stuff planned.
Elca- How is lucy doing? Is she being good for you? I hope so.
Well, I am finally going over to visit the lady who lives across the street. She is about the same age as me, and although we have lived here for 4 years, we never talked more than the occasional mailbox chat. She had a baby six months ago. She came over and gave us an outfit before we had ella, and after I had her she gave me a bottle of acai berry juice for energy, and I have been meaning to call her and take ella over, so today will be the day. If we both live here for any period of time, our babies will probably be playmates...so I will talk to you all later.

Hey girls - Just wanted to say thanks for the well wishes for tomorrow. I'm logging on for my last time today so the next post should be pictures of the new little one.
Everything went well at pre-op today and the massage was wonderful. I am about to put all our stuff in the car and get ready to settle in for the afternoon.
Tomorrow at 1:00pm is the time but they did tell me that they could take her as early at 12:00 because they like to get things done and over on Fridays. We have to be there between 10:30 and 11:00am.
I'm praying for a good nights rest and a healthy baby.
If I don't post tomorrow, I will definately try to post on Saturday. I will probably be in the hospital until Tuesday.
Good luck to all of you and Lostgirl, I'm hoping that something is happening for you as well. Keep us posted.
Good night to all!!!

Well I'm dilated 1cm so there's a wee bit of progress (baby is still super low and I'm still 100 percent effaced). My ob gyn thinks things will start in the next couple of days. I hope!
But we made a plan to induce me on Sun. 9/28 after my due date (9/19) if the baby hasn't arrived yet. I have an u/s scheduled for 9/25 to check amnio levels too.
I feel so many braxton hicks these days. They don't hurt but boy does my belly seize up. I can't wait for the real thing~!
Good luck tomorrow Doreen. I'll be thinking of you... Lostgirl

Doreen--BEST WISHES to you as your Michaela comes to this world. I'll be thinking and praying for you both.
LostGirl--my dear! seems like things are starting to happen for you and your baby. Exciting! I hope the baby arrives before they have to induce. Best wishes to you as well hon.
MLB and Michelle--I so enjoy reading your stories, they make me daydream about this little one growing inside of me. Enjoy this precious (though exhausting!) moment.

Doreen - you are in the hospital right now cuddling your little girl...hope you are having fun!
Lostgirl - I just e-mailed my girlfriend who is now 6 days overdue...she has tried acupuncture and primrose oil. I'll let you know if it works or if they end up inducing her. You poor ladies that were so (he he) patient and now are past due! Fingers crossed that it happens soon.
Michelle - been there girl! The only thing that works for Andrew when I am in that situation is to put him in a ring sling and sit with him. At least we can sit up in a chair and doze a bit while he is safe...my mom made me a sling for ~$12 from a pattern we found on a website, or you can buy them for ~$90.
Esperenza - it felt like I was pregnant forever...but now it is over and the intense 'on-call' days are here. Try to enjoy it, or at least enjoy having a few more doors held open for you.
We have more family here this weekend. It keeps me from having a nap, but you gotta do it! Finally Andrew is sleeping more at night and awake more during the day. I think his sleeping at night is related to me feeding more during the day (every 3 hours start to start). My poor nips are mostly healed and his latch is good more often than not. I didn't realize how much breastfeeding would put me on call 24/7.
Hey ladies,
So I had a really good due date even though the baby didn't come. I went for two walks (one twilight walk with the hubby I'll remember forever as a special moment) and did loads of stairs while doing laundry.
At night I had some contractions and when I went to bed at 10:30 was finding it hard to fall asleep because I was excited. Throughout the night had contractions, some uncomfortable, but none painful. Still I woke early wondering if I should call my mother who is a 2 hour drive away to just come.
I think I still have time but I'm definitely making progress. Was nauseated this morning. Had tummy trouble all yesterday and cramping at night. But the real deal is regular contractions and I'm not there yet.
Alas... Just got back from Walk No. 1 today. And now for a movie...
I'll keep you posted. All the best, Lostgirl
