Scared

Post by Fluffypuppygal »

Okay - so tonight is the HCG shot at 11pm. Hubby's first attempt at this! (Scared!)

The retreival of my small amount of follicles happens Wednesday (8 total that look useable). (Scared!)

If things work out, I have 91 days of progesterone shots in the touchie daily to look forward to. (Scared!)

If things don't work out, will DH be forever mad at me for wasting the money? (Scared!)

I have heard so many sad cases of loss and dissapointment happening after the first IVF implanting. No 2nd or 3rd chances for me, this is it!(Scared!)

Anyone have some encouraging words? :(

You are very brave to go to this trouble and expense for a little one you have never met.

You might ask your doctor if he/she would consider switching you to another type of progesterone, such as a gel or suppositories. The shots are a pain, literally. Also, 91 days of progesterone shots is not necessary under any protocol I have ever seen.

Good luck to you.
Avoid IVF and surrogacy in Ukraine. Ukrainian centers pay shills to post here under numerous sock accounts pretending to be patients in Ukraine. Centers using such deceptive advertising cannot be trusted and should be avoided.

Fluffypuppygal - The whole IVF process is scary. Are the shots going to hurt, are my eggs going to be good and fertilize, will they implant, will my beta be good, will we be able to find the money to do this again if it doesn't work? Tons of stuff float through our head. I find it easiest to take it one step at a time. Don't look at the whole picture because that will just drive you insane. You also have to remember we have no control over what happens.
Look at the good side of everything and try to keep a positive mental attitude (I know it is hard)

- Trigger shot will go fine, are you doing IM or sub-q? IM is a little more tricky but tons of ladies do it and there is no reason why you can't.

- You have 8 usable follies - You might have 8 really good eggs that will fertilize. You only need 1.

-The PIO shots look really bad and scary - they aren't as bad as they look. If they are really bad for you then ask RE to switch, that is always and option. Also don't look at it as 91 days on PIO. Look at it as yes I have to take these shots but they are worth it to have my own child.

- yes there are many stories of disappointment of failed cycles but also look at how many good stories there are. I have seen tons of ladies get a BFP on their first try. Don't be thinking of all the bad things.

Hope this helps a bit. At the end of all of this you will say "Hey it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be". Good luck and wishing you the best.

Hi Fluffy,

I was scared, too. And, I only had 7 follicles. Makes the whole thing very stressful.

No matter what happens I think it's important not to think of it as a waste of money b/c you will always wonder "what if" if you didn't try. And, even if it's not successful, you may learn things during the process that will help you to make better decisions going forward about your treatment.

And, sometimes a small number of follicles can be successful! :D

Good luck to you! :D I've been there and totally sympathize with you. It's a tough spot to be in but, as Ghost said, you are brave to try.

My DH was deathly afraid of hurting me when he gave my first trigger shot. Now he gives me the PIO shots every day without batting an eye.

All it takes is one good embryo hon! Have seen plenty of BFPs here with fewer eggs than yours.

You do get used to the shots, and as people said here you can always switch to the suppositories if you need to. I think it's only 8 weeks total of shots anyway (up to 10 wks pg).

Don't worry about the money now hon, you're already into it! Keep up the PMA. What will happen will happen, and I agree that you'll feel better that you tried it. I had some friends who did 1 cycle, failed, adopted a child and then got pregnant while they were picking up their adopted baby. So even if it doesn't work, you never know what can happen!

it is natural to be scared so I want to offer you a lucky story as encouragement. We had 10 follies, 7 eggs, only 4 mature and they all fertilized, we put it all 4! We got one little boy on the way! This was my first IVF and it worked. It is important to keep a positive attitude and think that you will be pregnant! Good luck! Lots of baby dust!

Good luck!
It's my first (and hopefully only) IVF as well. I triggered on Saturday, retrieved 12 yesterday, 10 fertilized, now awaiting news for when I transfer. Sounds like we'll be in the 2WW together!
I definitely understand the anxiety.

And my doc is giving me progesterone suppositories, like ghost mentioned. You should ask your doc about them.

It has been a while since I've been here, something like 17 months and as I read your message, I get a huge wave of empathy for you. I have been there, my DH was terrorised by the thought of giving me an injection, I had 8 eggs at egg retreival on a possibility of 32 follicules. Even my physician was very dissapointed. On the day of transfer, 1 embryo was good, 1 looked somewhat good and the 2 other were not good. I was scared, sad, dissapointed, frustrated, you name it... But the injections were OK, DH got used to it and he got used to it in less than a week. I even think that he sometimes misses this minute of daily glory when he was the one in control! You can think of it this way, if you get the 91 days of progesterone, you are very fortunate, this is how I saw it and in the end, I was very fortunate. Beleive me, when I saw the BFP, injections were the last thing on my mind, I was ready for anything... and it is all worth it.

All the best to you and your husband.

Thank you all so much for the support!
DH was able to not only get the shot in, he actually did a FANTASTIC JOB!! (I think it was from all those years playing darts with his buddies!) I'm still worried a bit about the progesterone, but I'm hoping you're right about the "shot shock" wearing off after a few injections!
The extraction was today at 11am - Dr. C pulled 9 eggs, so we will find out tomorrow if any miracles are happening! He thought 4-5 looked really good, and the rest were only ok but still worth a shot. Keep your fingers crossed!
Right now, we are feeling like the worst part is over with, and the rest is a waiting game. (DH is napping in the den! I guess it was an exhausing day for him as well!)
Thanks again! I really appreciated all your great stories and words of encouragement!
