Frozen Embryo Transfer - Any advice please??

Post by Louisiana »

Hi Everyone, I am new to this site and just wondered if anyone is having the same experience as me? I am 31 years old, my partner is 36. I have had two eptopic pregancies and both tubes removed. We had IVF in April 2008 resulting in BFN, due to the two embryos not implanting :( We had two embies left over which have been frozen and I started my fertility drugs for the FET on the 2nd Sept 08 which were Primulot, then Buserelin from then on. Had a baseline scan today (18th Sept) and all seems to be well. Have been advised that I need to start taking my Progynova on 1st October and the procedure (if all goes well with the thaw) will happen on 17th October. My hospital has advised that I not get my hopes up too much as they might not survive the thaw. Feel really down today, just hope they can survive. Has anyone else felt low on the Buserelin? I have been taking it for over two weeks now and am feeling a bit depressed? Has anyone got any stories or advice for me about their own FET? Baby Dust to you all x x x

Hey just wanted to let you know that you and I are in the same boat, as far as the tube thing. I had hydrosalpinx in my right tube, my doc drained and surgically blocked the tube as I didn't want it removed and during that time he found the fetus from my ectopic pregnancy in my left tube. he cleaned it out really good. then I got pregnant again and it was in my tube, so I had to go to the ER and they just removed that tube, so i consider myself tubeless. So I can imagine how you may feel. I've done IVF twice, the first time bfn, the second time ended in a blighted ovum. I do, however have 10 embryos frozen and I will be trfing 3 in October, it may be a day after you though. I start lupron tonight. I honestly never heard of the medication that you're taking. where are you from if you don't mind my asking?

Also, why are they telling you not to have hope? My friend had one embryo....ONE, her embryo survived the freeze AND THE THAW. it even grew some. so i wouldn't give up yet or give out hope, i wouldn't even listen to what your docs are saying if they are being so negative. I've never done FET before, so this is new, but i have a couple of friends who have done it, they all got pregnant unfortunately m/c (chemical). I believed they missed the implantation window by a bit. who knows, their embryos were good to freeze and surive the thaw. I know our clinic FET cycles are very good! they have a good survival rate. I would look into it more as to why they aren't given your embryos much of a chance to survive.

good luck

Louisiana,

I wasn't supressed for this FET so I can't speak to sthe Buserelin.

We just did our second FET earlier this month. We had high hopes for the first one because the embryos we thawed were some of the strongest ones left over from the frozen cycle. We thawed 3. Come ET one was dead, one was borderline and one had divided once. We were very disappointed and we got a BFN.

So for this FET, we decided to thaw all 6 remaining embryos. They were the smallest of the lot so we had no expectations. This time at ET we had 3 embryos that were dividing healthily and compacting! They looked better than the strongest embryos from our fresh cycle where we'd had a BFP. We had a BFP on the second FET and just got our second good beta number.

Based on my experience, I would say that your chances look pretty good if your embryos thaw well.

Hi, can't comment on the drugs as i have never used the one you mention.
Regarding the FET, all my embryo's were frozen at 2 days, some 6 cell but most 4 cell. i got pregnant from every FET, 3 in total, unfortunately 2 ended in chemical pregnancies. the first 2 i thawed 3, only one did not survive the thaw well enough to use, although in the UK we can only transfer 2. On my third FET i only had 4 embryo's left, so decided to thaw 2 with the option to thaw the final 2 if needed. The 2 thawed perfectly did not lose any cells, they were both 4 cell, both took and i have 10 week old twin boys.
Keep the faith
good luck

Thank you all so much for your replys. It is hard as in the UK we can only transfer two embryos at a time. Fingers crossed for all the little ice babies out there. Good luck to you all x x x x :)
