Plans for Registering and Showers???

Post by Dakota »

I've been thinking about this lately because my EDD is end of Feb and the Holidays are Nov/Dec. All DH & my family is out of state so we would have to travel for showers. I am afraid that having a shower at Christmas time since we will be in town will put too much dent in people's budget from all the Christmas shopping, but with plans we will not make it back home for Thanksgiving, so is it too early to register and have a shower at the end of Oct, beginning of Nov? Also, my OB office does gender scaning at 20 weeks, which wont be until mid Oct so it would make it hard to plan and register while having a shower end of Oct, begining Nov.

Anyone thought about this? I know that I should be concentrating on gettnig out of the 1st trimester and making sure that everything is ok, but with a 12 hour drive home and 2 big families we'll have to make plans early.

Am I crazy??? I've already got everything picked out (hey, I've been waiting for baby for 8 years!!) I just need to get it recorded.

Hey, I don't think you're crazy. I went window shopping at Babies R us many times before I was even pregnant. I don't know how to advice you about your shower. I think you can register whenever you want to. In the thread for january babies a couple of people i think were already talking about registering. Its not a bad idea to get it done while its still possible. I went on bed rest unexpectedly at 25 weeks with my first child and I know that sometimes twins pregnancies have higher tendencies to be on bed rest. Not to worry you, there's also a good chance you'll be on your feet the whole pregnancy.
Bottom line.....have fun.....stay excited.....register as soon as you want you and don't mind what other people think!

Why don't you do a beginning of Dec shower, that way it is far enough before Christmas and people will still have some money. I am having my shower this coming Saturday and I will be 24 weeks and 4 days at that point. Twin pregnancies are very unpredictable so you have to plan far enough ahead. I wanted to make sure that I was not on bedrest so that I could do any returns and last minute shopping myself. I did not want to relinquish control to anyone else to do it. :) As far as the registering, it would depend on if you are going to find out the sex of the babies. I did want to find out so I waited until we had our anatomy scan, which was 16.5 weeks and we went that night to register. I know that sounds early but subsequent scans have confirmed it. Good luck on whatever you decide.

I think part of your planning craze is a way of enjoying it all. It's okay to be excited, especially after everything we all have been through.

I do think that you shouldn't worry about the Dec/Jan thing, and other people's money. what will happen is that some of your xmas gifts will be baby gifts, and that's just fine right? I think you can't expect people to shop for you twice. And why not have a little shower over the holidays when people will be gathered anyway.

I just think it's best to get things around 2 months before and not sooner.

It's okay to register about half way through because people will start asking what you need an you can then let them know.

My baby is due Oct 23rd and I had my shower the third weekend in July.

I didn't want to have the shower in August b/c I didn't want to be big and miserable in the heat. No one really even seemed to notice that it was kind of early. Honestly, I don't think other people think about it as much as we do. And, you have the perfect excuse to do it early w/the holidays.

For me, it was also nice that after the shower we knew just what was left that we needed. Our friends and families were so generous and it was nice to realize that the expenses that were left beyond that point were manageable. We've been able to take our time acquiring all that last things.

Have fun! Congratulations! :D

Hello,

I think you can register as soon as you want to. As far as when the shower is, I wouldn't think you'd have much say in that since I doubt you are throwing yourself a shower. I would leave that up to whoever is throwng your shower. As far as people giving you Christmas gifts that are baby things...I think that is so lame. I would be so annoyed at that, personally, after going to years and years of other people showers and bringing them baby gifts appropriately. Just my opinion...and I know the important thing is that we're pregnant...it's not the gifts. Just can't stand lamo's! Anyway...I started my registry early and picked my non-gender stuff and then went back after my scan to pick the gender specific stuff. You might want to consider doing that, and mention to your family that you've started your registry so they can pick up on your hint. Good luck to you!

GOOD FOR YOU-YOU DESERVE IT!!!

Let me just say I had my baby August 2- and I started planning sooooo early like you BUT it isnt as early as you think - time starts to fly trust me.......do exactly what you feel like as far as timelines go - anyway in my opinion its nice to have everything done and then just relax your third trimester- I am in great shape and the third trimester still got a little rough

Good luck...god bless!!!

We just found out yesterday that we're most likely having a boy and a girl so we're probably going to register soon.
Best of both worlds!!!!
