Any suggestions for the Nausua & Sickness?

Post by baylorbear33 »

Hello all, I am 9 weeks pregnant with twins and the nausua and vomiting are about to take their toll on me. Do any of you have any advice on how to lessen these symptoms of early pregnancy. I know this is supposed to be a good sign of a healthy pregnancy, but I am having a difficult time with it. I have gained less than a pound so far because I am either unable to eat or unable to keep it down, and I am a bit worried about this. Any thoughts?

Baylor - Have you asked your doctor about Zofran?? it helped me with my nausea tremendously.

I'm pregnant with twins as well and I was throwing up 3-4 times a day and couldn't concentrate on anything...

once I started taking Zofran it helped and now I don't even have nausea.

Or maybe you could try gingerale and some crackers??

I hope your nausea subsidized! take care of yourself.

Hi baylorbear-
I drink watered down apple juice in the AM with toast. I was doing gingerale and crackers but after a while the crackers grossed me out.
I also chew sour gum, like sour apple for some reason chewing the sour gum helped with the nausea.
I also take lemonade and put it in the freezer for a few hours until slushy and then I sip on it...like ice chips.
My RE would not prescribe anything for nausea unless it was for hyperemesis gravidum.
My nausea was really bad from 6-10 weeks, it seems like its starting to taper off now. I haven't gained any weight either, but I'm sure it will catch up with us!
Good luck!

I too found sour gum helped a little with my misery. My doctor suggested protein to help with the morning sickness; however, nothing close to chicken or any other kind of meat sounded remotely edible. I have found that the "super protein" drinks by Odwalla have about 40% of your daily protein needs and tend to calm my stomach. Chocolate is my favorite flavor but the vanilla is also good. They're a little pricey but if it helps you feel better, it's worth every penny.

Good luck!

Lynn

I'm not having morning sickness yet, but I have a friend who is going through terrible morning sickness and she said that ginger chewy candy helped her a great deal. They're a bit sweet and spicy but they eased her stomach a lot.

I hope you're feeling better.

Hi, I was soooooooo sick my entire first trimester and half of the second trimester, and also barely gained any weight. Are you sleeping on your stomach? If so....don't! I found that made it 10x's worse. Also, don't ever let yourself get hungry. Eat, eat, eat. Eat smaller meals, or snacks. Also, my doctor suggested not eating and drinking at the same time. Avoid anything spicy or acidic. I know it's frustrating...but keep in mind it's only temporary. I had a hard time seeing the light at the end of the tunnel...but eventually I got there. I only have constant indigestion now. :)

Yeah, I have terrible nausea too (fortunately I'm not vomiting), and a few things that help me are some carbonated drinks like ginger ale, 7up, and ginger flavor italian sodas (no cream or wip cream...just the soda and the flavor shot).

The chewy ginger candies are great too. The effect is temporary, so make sure to have a few in your purse.

One more thing is carbs! yes!! bread with cream cheese and pasta are my faves, it really does the trick for me.

The odwalla drinks (and tofu) help me not to feel too guilty about not eating much meat these days. I CAN'T even look at chicken :x :x :x beef is alright, but I don't want to be eating beef everyday.

Just keep reminding yourself...it's for a good reason, my babies are growing. Ah! I know I don't feel like it half the time because they make me nauseous too, but take your vitamins, if it's too bad, take them just before going to bed.

I hope you feel better soon.

Before I became pregnant I took vitamin b6 with b12 and folic acid for
6 months and I never have nausea, I do get a bit queasy if I don't eat for along time but other than that I never threw up and hope I don't.
Oh and I'm 10 weeks with twins. Good luck.
The ginger works also.

Ginger candy are great, they are chewy, and you can find them either at health food stores OR at Chinese markets...just ask for them (it many not be that obvious at first).
