yes-! I am 39 (careening toward 40!) and am pregnant after 1st IVF. Dh and I never did IUI or any other fertility stuff before since we didn't know there was a problem! and my dear friend just got a BFP after 1st IVF at 42
only thing i did was a bit of acupuncture, took it easy, thought positively and ate pineapple after ET
plenty of gals have gotten BFPs after 1st IVF- most importantly, trust the REs you'll be working with, and check out their stats on the SART web site ( think it's www.sart.org) this gives info on ages of patients, success rates etc
35 is still quite young - have you done IUI or stuff like that? have you and DH had tests performed?
Hey Loopie (great name)
I am 38 (see sig) be 39 in a few months - I am doing what you did , except the pineapple since I have not gotten that far yet. But I am doing the acupuncture/ no herbs though. Thanks for sharing with me, I was hoping to hear more stories?? Oy vey
I too got pregnant on my first cycle of IVF and I will be 39 when the baby is born. My DH and I also have unexplained infertility and I had suffered two miscarriages in the past after conceiving naturally. We did do one round of IUI which failed.
I don't think I did anything special or different -- I had 2 days of bed rest after the transfer and cut out caffeine but that was about it.
Stay positive! I'm sure it will all work out for you.
Thanks Lynn- thats wonderful These stories are so calming and soothing and ones I will keep looking at and referring too as I am currently stimming- hearing positive stories helps the process be more calm and posistive
Thanks again! And Congrats-
I got pregnant the first time I made it to retrieval at age 36 (I did have a canceled cycle before that). I did acupuncture for a long time 1x a week before IVF. But, I really don't know that it made a difference. There is evidence that acupuncture right before and after transfer makes a difference and I did that at my clinic. I think that does help.
I avoided alcohol, caffeine, exercise, hair coloring, pretty much anything that I thought had any chance of being connected to fertility. I didn't use it, but I did read something online about DHEA and how it can be good for eggs. I am thinking of looking into that more for my second IVF for a second child.
And, I agree w/the suggestion to look up your clinic's stats through the CDC website. Go to the best place you can.
Toobee -- I was 38 when we started our IVF attempt and DH was 45. We achieved pregnancy on our first try. I did do accupuncture once, sometimes twice a week several months before persuing IVF and we did it the day before transfer and like three days after the transfer. Like others have said, I'm not sure if it made a difference but it was free to me with the insurance that I have so I said why not. I did eat plenty of organic pineapple right before my procedure and during the two week wait. Also don't know if that helped but I did. Another thing that I did was I slept with a heating pad on low under my belly from day one after the transfer up until my positive testing. I had my transfer in January so the weather was cold out and this warmth just felt good anyway. Just don't let the pad get too warm. My pad on low was just enought to warm my belly a little and that may have helped. I read to try and keep the abdomen warm but not to use hot water bottles.
These are notes for anyone else who may b reading as it looks like you have already gotten your positive. I will be delivering my baby next Friday, 19 Sept via c-section. What I can tell you now is to rest when your body says to rest and don't overdue yourself. I've rested and slept so much during this pregnancy until it wasn't funny. I wasn't taking in achances and it just felt good. DH has cooked all meals for me since being pregnant and allowed me to just relax and take it easy. That helped soooooo much.
Good luck.
Me, 40 - DH, 47
IVF #1: POSITIVE - Michaela born 9/19/08
IVF #2: Consult on 10/13/09 - Start BCP Dec since clinic will be closed for the Holiday.

Thanks Guys!!!
God it seem slike forever ago I wrote this post!!! So I want to add to it.
I have had success so far with a BFP on my first IVF. I have along way to go to find out if its viable, but tommorrow is my first u/s at 5 weeks to find out how many!!!
So what did you do before and after your transfer? I started my supression today, I have not done anything ordinarily than to pray and fast, seeking God to help me and be in the whole process. So I would like to hear your story.
Hi, I am 41 as of last week. I had my first IVF in early August and I am currently pregnant with one little one. We were aggressive and transferred 4 blasts. We also had ICIS because of my Dh's morphology. We are thrilled to be having a baby...especially so late in the game. Best of luck to you!!!
