Cervical stenosis?? Help!

Post by nali1278 »

My 2nd ivf too resulted in a BFN, although I wasn't expecting a BFP since the very week I had the ET and had to be the most relaxed, we had a disaster at home with a burst water pipe flooding the whole house! But anyway, that aside, my doctor says I have a very narrow cervix (cervical stenosis I think is the medical term) making the ET not as easy as it should be, and has booked me in for a procedure to widen my cervix. Has anyone gone through this procedure? And does it help with success rates? Any stories or advice would be really appreciated. Good luck to all!

nali,

I have not gone through that, and don't have this issue, but an RE has suggested ZIFT to me. I believe ZIFT is recommended for someone with cervical stenosis. If the procedure he is doing to widen the cervix does not work, you may want to ask him about this procedure rather than standard IVF. They place the embryo(s) in the fallopian tube at day 2, allowing the embryos to flow into the uterus naturally. You need to have this done laproscopically, but supposedly it's not that bad of a procedure and may significantly improve your success rate. I am considering it for me due to the fact that I have a small uterus. Supposedly it can help with people with uterine anomalies.

Good Luck!!!

cervical stenosis

Post by nwquiz »

Yes i was diagnosed with the same after 5failed cycles. then i was told they need to open my cervix before i could try again. cervical dilation was done a month before my next cycle and time of transfer was so much easy since my cervix was still open and it resulted in a BFP. Hope this helps.
all the best.

I had cervical stenosis also. Before starting IVF I had to have the HSG, the 1st time the radiologist tried it he couldn't get the catheter into my uterus. The 2nd time I went to the RE and he dialated my cervix before the procedure. As he put it, my cervix was narrow and my uterus was tilted too but he didn't have any problems with the dialation. He used lidocaine to inject into my cervix then used the dilators. I didn't feel the injections, either it didn't hurt or he had a good hand. I bled a little bit and it did hurt when he used the last dilator, but not that bad. The HSG wasn't bad b/c I was numb already.
I had my IVF cycle the next month, and RE had no problems getting the ET catheter into my uterus to deposit the eggs.
I got a BFP, now I am 24 weeks pregnant!
I don't know if the dilation is a standard procedure, and I can't say it was the reason I got my BFP b/c it was my 1st IVF cycle.
Good luck!

Hi, I also have a lovely helpful stenotic cervix. :x

I'm coming up for egg retrival next week and they are going to dialate the cervix so that egg transfer should be all smooth sailing (touch wood)

Good luck.

PS I was told just because I have a stenotix cervix doesn't make any difference to the success rate. Our problem is on the outside of the cervix, once sperm or fertilized eggs are there things should be fine. (just my 2 cents worth though)
