Just found out Monday --In vitro is our only option

Post by jnitschke »

Hello:

I have read many boards but have never posted because i have been in denial of our infertility. Well...monday we found out we have to have in vitro.

Just wondering if there are any other newcomers or any others who could answer some questions.

My husband has a very low sperm count under 1 million thus the reason for the in vitro. Just looking for any others with the same situation and/or any who have had this and went on to have babies.

Thanks for reading and response would be great!

hi there Jni and welcome!
you are not alone! don't think that IVF is something to fear- it is a medical miracle to help us attain our goals of becoming parents.

I have to say, I was pretty freaked out and sad at first when the doc said we should consider IVF as our only hope, but when I realised that dh's sperm count and morphology( oddly shaped sperm) was our problem, I was relieved- finally knowing there was a specific reason we were not getting pregnant.
Infertility is a couple's problem no doubt about it- even if only 1 is diagnosed (dh's can really get down about the count thing- mine is still sort of bummed even now i think). On the bright side, my reproductive parts seemed in good shape, and helped me feel confident that we'd have success - I mean, after the 1st bit, our bodies do the work for the next 9 months, so the odds are in our favour once the sperm and egg get it together!
There are a lot of women on this board who have gone through a lot more trying situations with IF - PCOS, DOR, tube problems, cancer, unexplained and the more, and get their BFPs, so keep positive!!!!!!

good luck to you, and read up on what you can- i think your REs will do ICSI (check it out on this site).

cheers!

Just wanted to let you know you are not alone I am 28 and was told in July 08 that my DH and I would have to undergo in vitro we have male factor fertility and have never seen anything like this it is a whole experience in its own we are hopeful I am still learning the process i started my stimulation meds this morning and i hate meds I fear the side effects so telling myself to keep the eye on the prize in the end it will be well worth it if we achieve the ultimate goal of becoming parents if you have good support around you it will help in the process and just having someone to talk about it with has helped me a lot if there is anything i can help u feel more at ease or answer any questions let me know

ALSO just found out IVF is our only option...

Post by Tessa2008 »

Hello, I just read your response and felt we were in the same area. We too just found out that IVF is our only option, and are nervous, scared, and researching all we can. My husband also has low sperm count...less then a million. We thought we could do IUI's, but were told they needed at least a million to do that. We researched every avenue as to why his count was so low, but nothing positive came of it. We are now to IVF, figuring out how to pay for it, and how to deal with the process. We meet with a different infertility doctor in 2 weeks, and I meet with an endocrinologist in a week. I too have problems with ovulation and such. I'm hoping we can stick through the process together and figure out the meds, answer questions, and share our joys and problems! I know I'll be asking as many questions as I can!
Take care and hope to hear from you soon!
