How to Adopt

Post by babyluv »

I've noticed a lot of different threads asking how to afford adoption, so I thought I'd throw in my 2 cents.

DH and I decided to adopt BEFORE ever trying IVF, so it wasn't a very difficult decision. We were very blessed with the means to do it, but yes, it can be very expensive. There is an $11K tax CREDIT for US citizens which is an enormous help. It comes after the adoption is complete, so you have to shell it out first, but it's there.

There are a ton of grants available and lots of ways to fundraise. Also, think of it as investing in your child rather than buying that new car. If you want to do it, and really believe that's what you are called to do, you'll find a way.

A great resource is www.myadoptionlinks.com. You'll be able to research a lot of countries and it should help you look into US adoptions as well.

We have been so blessed with our two kiddos, and they have brought such fullness to our family. I know for some it's very hard to give up the thought of having a biological child. Adoption is not something to take lightly, but wow, is it amazing.

DH and I wanted to see if we could have bio kids, so now we are going through IVF. For us it's just another way to have a child. I don't take it lightly and I would REALLY REALLY like to be pregnant, but God has certainly blessed us already.

It's a scary journey, but you'll find a way. Let me know if you have any questions. I'm actually about to teach a seminar on adoption, so I've done a lot of research!

Hi babyluv,
Wow, it'd be great to get some info from you! DH and I have done several unsuccessful attempts at ivf, probably going to do one more FET. Adoption has always been in my mine, like you even before ivf. I think it's such an amazing thing to be able to do. I am going to look at the link you gave on your post. I am pretty clueless about how it all goes together. How much is it usually from beginning to end? Is international adoption more expensive? I agree with you, instead of thinking of it as such a large amount of money, think of it another way such as a new car...only adoption is SO much more worth it!! What are the best adoption agencies? Is that the first step? We are in California.
I think I'll go onto your link now, thanks!!!

Oops, I don't think that link works anymore. Hmmm...

www.karensadoptionlinks.com is another good one, though a little harder to navigate.

Hi, thanks for the info!
I noticed that you have adopted from Russia, and if we go International, that's sort of what we were considering. Did it go smoothly? I know you have to make 2 trips there before finalization right? Wow, I could learn so much from you! Thanks again for the link!
