Hi,
I am getting ready to have the embryo transfer and I have a VERY tough time with needles, as does my hubby! Insurance does not cover me to go to a clinic and have the shots administered to me. Does anyone know of student nurses that are interning that can administer the shot? I wasnt sure if there was a nursing college that would allow their students that are in their practicing stage, administer these shots for me as a learning tool? Or does anyone have any suggestions for this? These have to be given in the hip muscle! Yikes!

I dont know about any nurses or anything that can give you the shots but I just wanted to let you know that the shots arent as bad as you think. I was really nervous and scared about taking them too but once I started, I realized that although uncomfortable, they are still bearable. Ive also read that you can warm the progesterone by holding the syringe in the hand for a while before the shot and also that heating pads may help. My DH always massages my injection site after giving the shot for like a few minutes and that seems to help me. When I was taking all the lupron and menopure and all that, I was taking a total of 6 shots a day. Now Im just taking one so just the thought of that helps me too. Im sure you'll be fine, just wait and see.....
I wish I could help you a lot better. The IVF clinic that we went to, the nursing staff was so patient with us in teaching my husband how to administer the IM and for me in setting up. (I'm a dental hygienist so I'm used to being around the apparatus let alone giving injections to my patients ... )
The circles were drawn on the injection site. I had my husband retrace them when they were getting too light or I went back to the clinic and had them redraw. My husband was really good at it. He knew it had to be done because of what we were really striving for.
There was one point that I had to have Progesterone 200mg IM x 2/day (morning and evening). My injections went on until week 30.
Good luck! It's actually mind over matter. Delivering my son vaginally without the epidural was worse than the injections!

Hey,
I also injected those shots to myself when I had my iui and it wasnt that bad.
I heard that you can place some ice before the shot and it helps,good luck!
