Karen- I hope you're feeling better... I think we've all been through the down times where we can't get out of bed. And you know what? I found if I make myself go for a walk, even if I cry through the whole walk, atleast I'm getting fresh air and I feel a little better.
Ajdec- Wow 17! That certainly gives me hope when I have ER.
Mrs Cutter- I asked my doctor about exercise and she wants me to take it easy because when you're stimming the ovaries are much heavier than normal and there's a risk of them twisting. She said sometimes they'll untwist on their own but sometimes the blood supply gets cut off and they can die. Yikes! And she said its painful. I exercise everyday, if I didn't I'd gain weight so fast my head would spin... So I know I can't cut it out all together. But I won't do any aerobic activity during this IVF Cycle.
Well...got my results from my ER. Of my 17 eggs, 15 were mature and 13 fertilized. They froze 5 already and have 8 left for the ET. The nurse said they will freeze more at different intervals. My ET is set for Monday at 10 a.m.! I'm so excited and so nervous!!!
DH and I are really struggling with how many eggs to transfer. Given I am only 30 and we don't have any other fertility issues, our odds are pretty high for PG. We really want this session to be successful, however, multiples are not high on our list. I know it seems almost selfish to say such a thing...I feel bad even writing it. But it's a reality of our life and where we are right now. It's going to be a very difficult decision... Any words of wisdom or thoughts would be appreciated...
ajdec- Congrats! Those results are awesome. It sounds like you and I are in the same boat because we just discussed the whole transfer thing with our doctor too. Since dh's sis has triplets and his bro has twins, multiples aren't high on our list either. Dh is leaning toward transfering 1, I could be open to transfering 2, but I'd be afraid one might twin... I could also be persuaded to just do 1 and freeze the rest. I know you'll keep us posted. I can't wait to hear from you next week to see how ET went, how you're feeling, how many you transferred.
ajdec - congrats on having so many fert. eggs - that is awesome!!!! Dont feel guilty about only wanting to transfer one, we each have our own opinions and reasons for how many we want to transfer. I know my doctor said that they only recommend one or two, but I am hoping that I get enough to freeze and put three back in, just to increase my chances. My doctor told me that since I will be just about 36 he would agree with three, but he wants to go over the risks with us again once we get closer to transfer.

ajdec - Congrats on all the fertilized eggs. That is a tough decision on how many to transfer. If I transfered only 1 and it didn't work I would always be wondering if I had transfered 2 would it have worked. Seeing that you are only 30 and have lots of eggs to choose from I would be pretty sure that your RE would only put back 2. I can understand your delima. It is all in where you are in life and you still have lots of time to have a 2nd child if that is what you wish later on in life. Last time we put back 3 but that is because it was a 3 day transfer and I am 36 yrs old. I don't mind twins, just don't want triplets. Good luck on making your decision.

To Have Fun How are those BCP's going??? I loved counting down my pack last time......
ajdec How many is a very individual choice. Like to Have Fun in the last post i also transferred 3 as i'm also 36. If i was 30 i would probably go for 2 unless you absolutely 100% would go crazy if you had twins!!
NY4th Being on the dexamethasone makes a lot of sense for you with mildly elevated NK cells - i read it was much better than prednisone for this and it can depress NK activity, which if you have only a slightly elevated level might be enough, avoiding IVIG....
I think i am working on the assumption that i have some of these immune issues as they are fairly common, and as most of them can be reduced using only basic drug regimes, i will tell my RE i want to proceed. He's always open to ideas IF i can explain WHY. He said he will do some antibiotic therapy but only a very aggressive oral regimen (better than nothing) and has no problem with Heparin. Now all i need are some steroids, metformin and folgard!!!!![/b]
I AM BACK!!!!!!!!!! Well I was on the Aug/Sept board and was doing my first IVF when I was cancelled and also got a BFN. I moved to MA shortly after my BFN and actually started working at a clinic. Guess what?!?!?!? I have insurance (kicked in day 1 of work) and they cover IVF (3x i think)... Woooooooooooo Woooooo I got AF on 10/06 and will consult soon with a RE. I am hoping they can start me ASAP or on my next menstual cycle. Coming in with lots of PMA. Nothing will let me down.

Rosario Hey !!!!! welcome back !!!!!!!!! Glad you get the chance (or 3) to try again. You will recognise a few of us from that board who also got a BFN that cycle. Let us know when you start.....
NY4th No immune testing done - they wont do it untill 3 BFN's as itdoesnt warrant it!!! Well, as i pay out of pocket i think it does! From what i read, in an ideal world we would all be tested day 1 for everything and treated accordingly, but many RE's dont even take this issue seriously and Dr Beer's theories remain largely unused. I think its a shame that new advances/theories are looked at with suspicion despite being backed up by scientific data and clinical trials. Its a bit lke the old DHEA debate... very subjective.
As none of these drugs are harmful to me or my potential baby i dont see the harm in trying everything - accupuncture for some does nothing, others swear by it and what harm does it do? SO i'm applying the same rationale to this and the antibiotic treatments...
Heparin was actually suggested by my old RE as he couldnt understand why perfect embies wouldnt stick to a perfect lining (obvioulsy something is not so perfect!) and suggested heparin. Now i find out its used as treatment for common immune disorders that prevent implantation. Given daily by subQ injection they are given through stims, stopped prior to ER and started after, up to week 34 of pregnancy. Its a type of blood thinner and corrects any co-agulatioin issues. Clexane is a common variant ( i have seen this mentioned in other posts)
not hopeless yet,
I will for sure take it easy and exercise. I sure dont want a twisted ovary. yikes!!! I laughed when I read the part about your gaining weight so fast your head will spin. My teacher in middle school told me a million times she would send me to the office so fast my head would spin because
I couldn't keep my mouth closed in class. lol. Anyway a little break from exercise will do me good. My DH is exercise king. ha ha.
take care.

Rosario _ YEAH!!!!! Welcome back. I am so glad to see you on your way again. I was so disappointed when you got your BFN. I get disappointed about everyone but last cycle I was really pulling for you since we both got canceled in July. That is awesome you now have insurance coverage, I feel that having the coverage take a lot of stress off but in the end a BFN still hurts just as much. But heck we arn't getting BFN's this time. Keep us posted when you find out your game plan.
Kas101 & NY4th - You guys are making me feel really lazy for all the stuff you are doing to help your next cycle. I thought I was good just to up my vitamins. I am going with what the RE says this cycle. If I get a BFN again and decide to cycle again, the RE will then listen to me and do what I want. Actually, I think I will be changing RE's if I decide to cycle again.
NY4th - What is APA's and IVIG?
ajdec - Good luck with your transfer.
Happy Friday to everyone. Hope you all are doing well. I keep knocking down a BCP a day, YEAH!!!!. I am going on vacation to Kentucky Lake. Will be doing a bunch of drinking and 4-wheeling my Jeep. Stuff I can't do will PG. I am working for 3 more hours today and then I am outta here. I will probably try and get some Internet access so I can check up on everyone. You know I am addicted to the boards and can't go a whole week without finding out how everyone is doing. The place i stay out says they have wireless Internet but if your cabin is too far from the office you are out of luck. So I guess I will just have to take a little walk with my computer till I can get some access.

Hi Rhonda- I used to be a chatterbox in class too and got in trouble many times!
Rosario- I live in MA too and the insurance coverage is such a blessing. Where are you? I'm on the South Shore and meet with doctors in Quincy but have most of my treatments in Waltham.
My grandmother cracked me up yesterday. Actually she is my step-grandmother she has no kids but 12 grandkids. She came up to me and told me that she had heard that I was TTC. I said "yes and that I had been trying for awhile". She then said "just relax and have some wine." I told her that i have done that many many of times and it hasn't worked." She then goes on to say "Well you know I did the same thing many many of times and it didn't work for me but I had fun trying." That just put a big smile on my face hearing that come from my 86 year old grandmother.

I'm back. Was offline for the holidays. Anyway, I was the one asking about intubation. Turns out my Dr. was mentioning it for precautionary reasons only. I spoke to the nurse and they said they only do it in emergencies and they rarely, if ever, have done it.
As for number to transfer. I'm 38 so maybe this has an effect but my Dr. told us that he recommends 2-3 for a Day 3 transfer and 1-2 for a Day 5 transfer. We'll probably go with 2 but I'm nervous about the potential for twins. I'm all for one shot deals, but my cousin did IVF and had twins and one of them has CP due to complications.
Since this is my first cycle, I'm also nervous like some of you have said. I also woke up feeling really depressed this morning and I had no idea why. Lots of possible reasons I guess, but it sounds like this process could be part of it.
I was reading the threads about exercising and it brought me to a question that I had. Does anyone know if there is a restriction about how much weight you can carry around? I thought I read this somewhere but I can't find it now. I have to take my laptop with me to work every day and usually use a laptop backpack but I'm thinking maybe a need a wheely-thing...?
