Post beta, pre-ultrasound crazy gal

Post by Fluffypuppygal »

Hi ladies!
Let me start by saying that I used to be a normal person! I had the logic and patience of Mr. Spock. I had the reason and fortitude of Ghandi. Then I got my BFP!
I was happy to hear that my betas worked out and that things were progressing well.
Then the next day, I pretty much morphed into a nut!
I now obsess over every cramp and twinge my body goes through. I spend my work downtime Googling every sign and symptom of pregnancy and/or miscarraige. I worry if my boobs are crampy, and I worry if my boobs aren't as crampy as I remembered the day before. I have called my MA over so many stupid things I think she will pop open champagne when I transfer over to my regular OB/GYN! I have 12 days to go before my first ultrasound, and I have counted and re-counted those days on the calander about three times today!
Can you say CRAZY?!!
I'm hoping this goes away after the ultra-sound and I get a little more confident that things are going to have a happy ending for a change! Has anyone else felt like this?

I laughed so hard when I read your post!!! Thankyou for that!!! I cant say I have ever been as calm or brillaint as those two icons you mentioned, but I can relate to the craziness you are expressing!!!!!! After several miscarriages the first 7 weeks of IVF were friggen crazy for me until i heard the HB's, In my case three at 7 weeks, 2 at 9 weeks....I would say it gets better but I think when we go through IVF most of us kinda lose it and become obsessive freaks...the fact that we all know so much sooner than most woman I don think helps either...And also because we have been injected like pin cushions that make our hormones and ovaries work triple duty doesnt help either.........I hope it will get better as well. I am 9 weeks today and I am defintley less obsessive now then I was at 7 weeks!
I do think at around week 26 I will be much calmer!

Best of luck.......and congrats!

you are not alone sister friend!

I laughed when I read your " I spend my work downtime Googling every sign and symptom of pregnancy and/or miscarraige." heck! I used to do it DURING work time (don't tell my boss  )...I'm much calmer now, but it hasn't fully gone away. Right now, for example, I'm supposed to be doing my school work, and guess what I'm doing? posting on this forum and searching the internet for anything related to pregnancy.

Welcome to madness and happy journey ;)

Sounds a little like me....I've had the luxury of being able to stay at home and take it easy for a couple weeks and have spent ALOT of time Googling symptoms of various things....I also am 12 days away from my first U/S. Some days I feel okay and others I feel obsessed..just depends...oh and how many days between your first and second betas?? Quite a big jump in numbers!!! :D

are y0u asking me about my betas?? I have to assume so since it looks like I am the only one who posted, if its not me, just disregard

so heres the times of my betas:

9dp5dt: 497
12dp5dt: 4,056
16dp5dt: 16,896

I stared with triplets...had 3 healthy heatbeats at 7 weeks...although at 9 weeks one of them couldnt be found so RE thinks we lost him...his sac was measuring behind at 7 weeks so it was not a huge surprised....So now we have what appers to be two very healthy babies growing

Oh yeah, I was curious about Fluffypuppy's beta dates (just because of the big jump in numbers) but looking at yours is also interesting Toobee.....because your starting beta was so much higher than mine (at 9dp3dt, I had only a 34!) but I guess thats cause you had triplets... :D

I have been googling because I'm NOT having any symptoms, other than bigger boobs, which I figured could be attributable to the progesterone supps. I don't feel any different and suppose I am in a bit of denial as it still seems surreal. Even my first u/s next week probably won't do it. I think I have to start showing and then seeing is believing. I'm only at 6 wks now.

I will say, one symptom I've had, which I don't know how typical it is, but I've felt so hopped up on hormones (maybe estrogen) that I feel like a 17 yr old boy. I am obsessed with thinking of sx all the time and can't do anything about it to release the "tension" because I have to wait for the "all clear" after my first u/s. I've never been like this before (even waking up at 4am thinking of it) so I have to think it's the hormones that are causing me to be so unbelievably crazed.

Fluffy- don't mean to alarm you, but it never ends- pretty much from the time we pee on a stick and get a + or a beta BFP to the time we give birth - we are in for it. Obsessing on every twinge and gurgle, tug and tummy ache that happens with our bodies, oh and the waits- tell me about it !!!!!( 9 days and counting!!!). this is the new normal :D

And from what I recon, once we give birth, the next new normal never ends either!

best of luck for a healthy and happy new normal!

Thanks for the positive feedback guys! I really appreciate it!
Question about the betas - My first was on October 2nd, and since it was so much lower than everyone else, I obsessed about it being a possible chemical pregnancy. I had to skip the 2nd beta since the day fell on a weekend, but my last beta was on the 6th, so we were expecting numbers around 240 and got 975 instead! (Who's complaining, right?) I would love for it to be an early sign of twins, but don't tell my husband! (Actually, I'm pretty sure it is only one, but the more the merrier!)

Today I took a leap of courage and actually went into Barnes and Noble on my lunch break and made eye-contact with a few pregnancy books! Maybe if things go okay with the ultrasound, I'll actually take the next leap of faith and buy one. I agree about the whole "in denial" thing. I have a hard time saying to anyone "I'm pregnant," or even thinking in terms of "I'm pregnant." Instead it is, "I have a positive beta, so I am being careful and watching what I eat." Until I see that little living ultrasound, I am staying where it is safe!

Hey ladies,
I've read your post on feeling a little "post beta craziness" and I'm feeling the same way. I'm not close to 6 weeks pregnant and I'm waking up in the middle of night with BAD cramps. Last night I was doubled over in pain and finally got out of bed to take a tylenol. I called my IVF nurse last week and told me that since my beta number is so high that she ruled out an ectopic pregnancy. However, my girlfriend had an ectopic and her beta numbers were still high. During the day, the feel a little cramping but nothing like during the night. Anyone have similar symptoms or advice???

Hi Liz!

Congratulations on your BFP!!!!
I cannot share from personal experience since my cramps weren't as bad as the ones you describe, however, my advice to you is to ask your RE for an ultrasound to rule out ectopic (that is if you continue to have really bad cramps). Best wishes in your journey, I certainly hope everything is ok.

Liz, I was getting pretty bad cramps at night, too, then was fine by the morning. I was worried about ectopic, b/c I've had two. BUT, I had my first u/s yesterday and have one little bean in exactly the right place. My IVF nurse said the pain is probably from my still-enlarged ovaries from the stimming (we saw the ovaries during the u/s, and they are still huge!!).

Good luck with your first u/s!

Hi Liz,

If you are having pains which are honestly bad and not going away and you want answers, you can always go to an emergency room and get checked out. They have OB/GYNs on call who can make sure nothing bad is happening and your RE doesn't have to know that you went. (I would go early in the morning for faster service if you do decide to go.) This is just a thought if the pain really is bad or has you really worried.
I had an ectopic pregnancy a while ago, and what I noticed wasn't pain so much as bleeding and spotting with cramps.
Good luck!!
