embryo donation

Post by LuAnne41 »

DH & I have 3 frozen embryos to donate to the right person/couple. We were blessed w/healthy twins but can not afford more children. We desperately want these embryos to have a chance at life. We ask the recipient person/couple to pay for continuing to freeze the embryos (about $400) & any other costs associated w/the process. (meds, monitoring, ET, &/or shipping costs to have the frozen embryos sent to your clinic) If you are interested, please tell us as much about yourself as possible. (i.e. where you live, your family/extended family structure, why you are open to adopting embryos, etc.) We are certainly open to adoption by a person/couple of different race, but if it is important to you the baby/ies carry similar physical characteristics to you, please tell us as much as possible about what you & your partner look like (hair & eye color, height, weight, physical build, complexion, race, etc.)

I have been a member of this forum for about a year now, and my husband and I just went through our second loss. I was searching the internet for embryo donation, and I was very surprised when it sent me to this site and I read your post.

This was our fourth ivf attempt, and we got further than ever before. We saw a heartbeat a few times, but lost the baby at nine weeks. After the loss we decided that it was time for us to try something else. We have always been open to the idea of adoption, but wanted to try with us first. I had never even heard of embryo adoption until about a week ago. The more I have read, the more excited I get. We feel like embryo adoption would give us the chance to carry the baby, take he/she home from the hospital, and have an extra bond that we may not have been able to have through traditional adoption.

We live in Huntsville, Tx (near Houston), and have been married for almost five years. The last three of those years have been spent trying to conceive. We are both high school teachers and coaches. I am a math teacher, and DH is a history teacher. I will not be coaching once we know we will be starting a family. I am 5'5 with dirty blonde hair/ green eyes and my DH is 5'9 with blonde hair/ blue eyes. We are both very healthy and athletic.

Family is very important to us. Both of our parents are still married after many years, and we are also very close to our extended family. Any child born into our family would be lucky to have such a large support system.

Sorry for such a lengthy post, but I wanted to give you a good idea of who we are. Please let me know either way, if you are interested or not.
Thank you very much, and I wish you the best no matter what.

I was very lengthy in my first post, but there were a couple of things I left out. I just wanted to let you know that my doctor thinks that I am very healthy, and will have no problem carrying a baby. After I posted last night, I realized that with two miscarrages you could be concerned that there could be a problem. The doc beleives that our embryos have not been good enough quality to continue to grow. With the help of someone like yourself, we should have no problem having a child.

I also wanted to say what a blessing people like you are. There are so many people in need, and I think it is wonderful that you want to help out.
Congrats on your twins!!

Thanks for letting me share our story with you.

YOUR PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS ARE A PRETTY STRONG MATCH & YOU & YOUR HUBBY SOUND LIKE AMBITIOUS HARDWORKING PEOPLE. IT SOUNDS AS IF YOU WOULD HAVE LOTS OF TIME WITH THE LITTLE ONES IN THE SUMMER W/YOUR CAREERS BEING WHAT THEY ARE. WE ARE IN INDIANA BUT THE EMBRYOS ARE CRYOPRESERVED IN WASHINGTON, D.C. I WISH SO MUCH I COULD KEEP THEM ALL, BUT IT ISN'T PRACTICAL. I HAD TO SPEND A LOT OF TIME ON BEDREST & I COULD NOT RISK THAT W/THESE 2 LITTLE ONES TO KEEP UP WITH. I WOULD LOVE TO TALK MORE CANDIDLY, BUT NOT ON THIS FORUM. CAN YOU PROVIDE AN EMAIL ADDRESS FOR ME TO CONTACT YOU? THANKS.

I WISH I COULD GIVE EVERY DESERVING WOMAN/COUPLE A BABY BECAUSE I KNOW HOW SAD WE FELT STRUGGLING W/THAT DESIRE, NEVER KNOWING IF WE WOULD EVER HAVE A BABY. I DO NOT LIKE FEELING AS IF I AM CONDUCTING A CONTEST. IT'S JUST THAT SINCE WE CAN NOT KEEP THEM, WE WANT THEM TO GET A CHANCE AT LIFE. WE WISH FOR THEM TO HAVE THE FAMILY LIFE WE WOULD GIVE THEM IF WE COULD HAVE MORE. PLEASE TELL US ABOUT YOUR FAMILY LIFE, HOBBIES, INTERESTS, ACTIVITIES YOU ARE INVOLVED IN, ETC. PLEASE FORGIVE US FOR ASKING SO MANY QUESTIONS, WE JUST WANT THESE LITTLE PEOPLE TO BE A GOOD FIT IN THE HOME THEY ARE BORN INTO. THANKS!

LuAnne- I am not sure if you wanted me to respond to your last email or if that was more for Natashamom. I figured I would go ahead and respond just in case.

My husband and I enjoy going to sporting events, playing golf, cooking out with friends and family, and spnding time with eachother. Some of our activities will likely change once we have children, and we are ready for that. We look forward to taking our children to the zoo, beach, parks, and teaching them all about life. We are both christians, and our children will grow up in church. (Methodist or Baptist)

You're right, our careers will be great for having children. We have long Christmas and Thanksgiving holidays, spring break, and of course Summer!

I am not sure what all you would like to know, but I will be glad to answer any questions. Thank you for considering us for your great gift. Feel free to email me: brit16@suddenlink.net
Thanks!!

Hello.

Post by natashamom »

Hi LuAnne,

I just wanted to say that I completely understand about you wanting the best for your embryos,I would too if I was at the same situation.

As I said,we`re a normal family and have an 11y.o son that loves babies and wish for a brother or sister.

We`re just dreaming of this baby to come soon.

I hope those embryos get to live in which ever family they end up with(of course a good one!).

God bless,

Natasha.

looking for embabies!!!

Post by colleenchassis »

Hi LuAnne-
My husband and I are looking for frozen embabies to help us achieve our dream family. Currently, we have an 8 year-old daughter that is from my prior marriage. Lee and I have been trying for over 2 years to give our daughter a sibling and complete our family. I have high FSH (poor eggs) and we also have genetic problems. I have been pregnant 6 times, but they all end by 5 weeks due to chromosomal abnormalities in the embryos. So, my RE gives us a very high chance with healthy embryos. (After all, I had no problems carrying dd!) My uterus and tubes are great, Dh and I just can't seem to make a healthy embryo.

About us: We are upbeat, happy people, always optimistic. I graduated with honors from SDSU with a BS in Psychology. Lee has been a tradesman all his life. We are spiritual people (Christian) but not religious. We love God and we love people. My husband and I are self-employed, owning our own metal fabrication shop. I work in the front office, and Lee manages the shop staff. We own a house in Fountain Hills, AZ. The schools are the best in the state, and it is a quiet, beautiful "bedroom" community. We love our life. The only thing missing is another child. Growing up, I can't imagine how my life would have been without my sister. I really want to give that same sibling experience to our daughter. She is looking forward to it as well.

As far as hobbies, my husband and I love boating. We go out on the lake for fun. Also, my daughter is involved in Girl Scouts, soccer and quite a few social activities. Most of our activities revolve around family. We love going to Disneyland and we are planning a trip in December. I love reading and writing. My husband does product design and engineering. That may not sound like a hobby to you, but it is!!! He love making things. I write poetry in my spare time and I love journaling. I hope to write a memoir about my IF experiences once we have completed this chapter of our life. I have been a volunteer La Leche League leader since my daughter was a few months old. I am a strong breastfeeding advocate and I plan on breastfeeding any child or children that I have the honor and blessing to carry.

I plan on being a full time at home mom with our future child/children. I was a stay at home mom until my daughter went to 2nd grade. We have a strong belief in developing an early attachment and sewing seeds of greatness into our child, especially during the formative years.

I am 5'6", green eyes, brown straight hair. Lee is 5'9", brown hair and brown eyes. We are Caucasian, but my dh also has some Native American. Our daughter has blue eyes and blond hair, so we are open to a child that looks like any one of us!

Pm me if you think we may be a match, and/or you would like more information. Wishing you many blessings in your journey. I know this is not an easy decision.

Warm Regards,
Colleen :)

I HAVE RUN INTO A PROBLEM IN DONATING MY EMBRYOS. IT SEEMS EMBRYOS ARE CONSIDERED HUMAN TISSUE; NOT HUMAN BEINGS! APPARENTLY, AFTER MAY, 2007, ONLY PEOPLE THAT UNDERGO INFECTIOUS DISEASE TESTING W/IN 30 DAYS PRIOR TO CREATION OF EMBRYOS CAN DONATE THEM TO OTHER INDIVIDUALS. THERE MAY BE A WAY TO LEGALLY GET AROUND THIS, BUT I AM UNCLEAR AS TO HOW. THE EMBRYOS WERE CREATED USING DE (DONOR WAS TESTED W/IN 30 DAYS PRIOR) & SPERM OF DH. DH WAS TESTED W/IN A FEW MOS. PRIOR, BUT NOT W/IN 30 DAYS. MEANWHILE, WE ARE PAYING FOR THE CRYO & TRYING TO LEARN MORE. WE HATE TO DISCARD THESE EMBRYOS, AS DH & I DO CONSIDER THEM HUMAN BEINGS W/THE RIGHT TO LIFE. IF YOU HAVE MORE INFO ABOUT THE LEGALITIES/LOOPHOLES, ETC., PLEASE ADVISE. THANKS.

new laws

Post by colleenchassis »

I don't know much about the process. My RE did mention to me that there have been new laws enacted that make it more difficult to donate embryos because they are now applying the same regulations to embryo donation as they have for organ/tissue donation. I thought that you had to be re-tested right before the donation, not prior to the creation of the embryos. How can they enforce a regulation that wasn't in place when you created the embryos? Should there be a grandfather clause for that?

I have done a bit of research, but the main thing that comes up on the search engines are attorneys. I think the info is out there; you shouldn't have to consult an attorney to get it. I will see what I can find.

I WONDER WHY DH COULDN'T JUST TEST PRIOR TO DONATION TO CONFIRM HE IS NEG. OBVIOUSLY, IF DH IS NEG NOW, HE WAS NEG THEN. LIKE I SAID, THE EMBRYOS WERE CREATED W/DH'S SPERM & DE, & THE DONOR WAS TESTED W/IN 30 DAYS PRIOR. MY CLINIC HAS NO INFO TO GIVE; THEY JUST TOLD ME TO CONTACT AN EMBRYO ADOPTION AGENCY. WE ARE ALREADY PAYING CRYO, WE HATE TO TAKE ON ADD'L EXPENSES & WE WOULD HAVE TO PAY TO TFR THE EMBRYOS TO A NEW LAB, MORE CRYO, ETC. IF WE COULD AFFORD ALL THAT, WE COULD AFFORD TO HAVE ANOTHER BABY. (LOL!) ANYWAY, PLEASE ENLIGHTEN ME W/ANYTHING YOU LEARN. I HAVE HEARD FROM SO MANY WONDERFUL LADIES, LIKE YOURSELF, MOST ALL OF WHOM WOULD PROVIDE A WONDERFUL FAMILY ENVIRONMENT FOR A BABY/BABIES TO GROW UP IN. THANKS.
