Hello Ladies:

Natasha,

There are many ladies on this site who have delivered sucessfully. Many are no longer posting on a frequent basis. I delivered my first baby at the age of 42. It was a very easy pregnancy and delivery. Andrew was delivered vaginally in 6 hours. Good luck to you!!
Regarding overnight meds, I used Freedom Drugs. They delivered overnight right to your door. It was much cheaper than buying the drugs directly from a local pharmacy.

Greetings to All!

Natashamom-I used either PercisionRx or Scraft's mailorder. They delivered directly to the door usually using FedEx or comparable carrier. Idon't recall if shipping was part of the price or not? Sorry. Lately this sight is not as active as it has been in the past. But don't let that deter you from posting here or the other boards. Several of our former posters are active on other boards. Additionaly, some of our former posters still pop in to read the post activity. So, If you have a question or need some support, don't hesitate to post here. This is such a wonderful, careing group of ladies whom draw from lots of experience.


So, a quick antecdotal story on me. DH the other evening mentioned he's ready for number 2. Number one hasn't even arrived yet. I said okay you carry number two. We'll revisit the topic in a few months after we're sleep deprived and see how he feels then. I think he's secretly hoping for a son with the second.

I saw that you brought back a lot of our over 40 ladies here, well done!

I delivered my first girl at 44.5 via C-Sec and pg with our second (son), expecting him on Feb. 2, 2009 at 46.5. BTW, both pregnancies are from my own eggs.

We have many other ladies here who successfully got pregnant and delivered with their own eggs or donor eggs. Other than Tammy, one of them (Nuala) was over 46 (?, correct me if any of you know for sure) when she conceived naturally on vacation waiting for her next ivf cycle.

I used www.ivpcare.com in my most recent successful frozen cycle, overnight delivery for free. The meds are cheaper than my own local pharmacy too!

I wanted two children since I was 10! Now that I almost get two, I started to think about the 3rd, 4th, 5th... I basically think as long as I don't have to go through any more pregnancies (I personally think pg once in a life time is enough, 9 months, way too long, human being reproduction is so inefficient!!!), I can have endless number of children... !

Glad to see you post periodically. Caroline, are you done with trying for another baby or you are still thinking about it? I am 46 this year, so age should not be an issue, no?

Hi Natasha

I used my own eggs, I was a slow responder on the 1st cylcle and was put on a flare cycle for the remaining 3 cycles. I produced between 6 and 8 eggs and achieved 2 good quality embryos each time for a 3 day transfer. It was then down to lady luck for successful implantation.

Let me know if you need any more information - I read this thread every few days.

Wow,I must say I`m so surprised to hear that we can still have good eggs after 45!!

My doc told me that it would be a mniracle to concieve with my own eggs so this is the reason I went with embryo donation.

I`m still amazed at these news but happy to know that if that doesnt work I still might have a chance of having a baby with my own eggs,thanks so much to all of you.

I think there will always be a yearning for 2nd child, but as time moves on this yearning is less frequent and less painful.

Age is not a barrier with regard to my energy levels, parenting skills and ability to find more unconditional love for another one. However, having ttc naturally since DD was 6 months without success, another round of IVF is our only option.

My clinic do not treat over 43 with own eggs and the nearest clinic who treat up to 50 is 2 hours away. The cost is also an issue, how many treatments, when do we stop? The other consideration is for every pound we spend trying for a 2nd, which might never happen, is money we couldn’t spend/save for DD who is here and now.

We are very lucky to have our DD and enjoy every moment, including the occasional trantrums!!!

I haven't been on in a week or so. I was so obsessed with being on and reading posts, I was driving myself crazy. I took a little break. i start my stims On Oct 31st. I take my last bcp on the 27th. I am just so nervous about the whole thing. I don't want to be negative, but it is so hard. I have been trying to think possitive and thank God that I do have two beautiful children. I just really want one with my husband now. he doesn't have any. I wish you all the best of luck.

What does it mean when you refer to blast? I dont understand what all of the lingo is for IVF. My RE office hasn't explained all this to me. I will be having my ER around nov 11th. Is blast different than embie. And is embie the actual egg? or does it mean the fertilized egg? Please help me to understand all of these terms.

Rhonda: An embie is a fertilized egg that begins to devide. A blast refers to a blastocyst, which is an embryo that has been dividing for 5 to 6 days and has differentiated itself into two distinct tissue types. If your ER does a 3 day transfer, your embies will not be at the blastocyst stage yet. My RE does 5 day transfers, so mine were at the blast stage.

Yasmina: DH and I have been discussing the possibility of using our 4 frozen eggs. Please provide me with a detailed description of the process relating to a "frozen cycle". What drugs did you have to take prior to transfer? Also, what was your thaw survival rate? Since I only have 4 eggs, I am hoping for 3 to survive the thaw and then maybe 2 embies to make it to transfer. My Embryologist says that at my age the change of taking home a genetically unafffected baby is ~5%. Of course, these eggs are younger than the egg that developed into my Andrew. Any info. that you can provide would be great.

Caroline P: I too have the yearning for a 2nd child. DH has an older son from his first marriage, but I would love my Andrew to have a sibling close in age.

Hi Tammy,

I am very happy for you and your dh! Here is the protocol that worked twice nicely for me.

1) BCP: for 21 days (starts from the 2nd or 3rd day of ur period)

2) Lupron: for 14 days, 20U/day, starts at the 17th day of BCP overlapping with the last 5 days of BCP)

3) E2 dots (Patches, 0.1 mg/dot): starts on the 10th day of Lupron use which overlaps with the last 5 days of Lupron.

The dose is increased progressively: 1 dot for 4 days (change to new dot every 2 days), 3 dots for 4 days (change to new ones every 2 days), then 4 dots for the rest of journey (change to new ones every 3 days). Keep at this level until your blood E2 level reaches above 200 and lining reaches 8 mm (for me, it took 15 days after the start of E2, but my E2 level was boosted by the use of estrace pills since my level was not hi enough). Continue this until pg test. If positive, continue until 10th week pg.

4) Progesterone: starts at 20th days of the E2. Every Morning, 50 mg/ml, injection (PIO), before bed: 100 mg/suppository. Keep at this level until pg test, if positive, continue until 11th week.

5) Transfer day: generally is 24th day after the start of E2.

6) After transfer, continue E2 dots and progesterone until pg test.


My embryo thawing survival rate were: 5/6, 6/8 and 5/5, respectively. All embryos were frozen at 2-cell stage and they were all from the same batch.

Yes, REs only can tell you statistics, but we had 10% and others had higher. As I mentioned before, one of my friends had twins with 3 embryos of hers transferred at 43. One never knows who will be the lucky one, we can only try our best but prepare for the worst.

Let's hope that ur all 4 eggs survive and will be fertilized nicely! Good luck on your next try!

I see ur dilemma and I had the same issues as yours. But my REs know that I am a good responder to ivf drugs, plus "pg to a live birth" history, they agreed to give me another fresh ivf, if my last frozen cycle didn't work.

Since u are also a good responder and had a live birth, can u talk them into another fresh cycle? If not, I just had a crazy idea: ask ur doc to prescribe progesterone to u so that you can use it every cycle after ovulation. I honestly think that we older women cannot keep a viable pg is due to low natural P4 levels, as much as the "bad egg quality". I had several positive pg tests after DD was born, but none of them lasted more than 5 weeks. Although not confirmed by blood pg tests, I believe they were real positives that I could not keep due to the fact that no progesterone was supplemented.

Similar to u, I enjoy every moment w our DD and I often feel bad about my ongoing pg since I did almost nothing to show my love for him. I sometimes ask my dh whether we can really love our future son as much as we love our dd, he gives me very vague answers. I don't have a clear answer for why I wanted more than 1 child, and I also don't know how many children for us is appropriate. I had not had time to sort out these questions before trying for the second...

I will let you all know how it will be once our son is born...
