Ivf and fibroids.

Post by natashamom »

Hello,

I was supposed to go for ivf with donated embies but found out I have a big fibroid and 2 cysts one on each ovary.

Now I got to remove all those tumors before I start ivf.

Did anyone had same problem?

Any repply would be gladly appreciated.

Natasha.

Hi Natasha, I also had to have fibroids removed before I began IVF. It all depends on where they are, as to whether they might affect your ability to maintain a pregnancy -- so removing them is a good thing. I had to wait quite a while before beginning after the surgery to make sure everything was well healed and wouldn't pose a problem if/when I got pregnant. So make sure you ask about that.
Best of luck to you! xx summer

good luck with your appointment tomorrow! hopefully you will get some answers as to when the surgery can take place and how long they think you will need before starting your cycle. Everyone is different. We've tried IVF 3 times without success and are now going the DE route.
Glad you are finding this forum helpful. the people here are really wonderful and very supportive. xx summer

Natasha,
I'm sorry to hear your news but I think in the long-run, you'll be thankful you waited to have the surgery. As Summerbaby indicated, the fibroids/cysts can affect your pregnancy. I had two fibroids identified during a HSG scan and the doctors suggested I have them removed. One was embedded in my uterine wall and that was causing the most concern. When the doctors went to remove the fibroids during surgery, they couldn't locate them so I basically had a D&C instead.

Of course, my RE could see the masses on the ultrasound after my surgery but we decided to go ahead with IVF. About 9 weeks into my pregnancy, I had major abdominal bleeding and cramping. When the RE performend an ultrasound, he found that my placenta had attached to a fibroid instead of my uterus. Because the fibroid couldn't support the placenta, my placenta tore away and caused a subchorionic hematoma. My pregnancy was given a 50% chance. Thankfully, by week 20, the hematoma had been absorbed by my body and everything was on track again. However, it was a scary process. In the long-run, I think you'll be happier if you have the surgery to make sure everything is ready to go.

Good luck!!!

Hey ladies! I had my surgery to remove the fibroids and the cyst on my ovaries on September 23rd. Of course my doctor wanted me to wait 2 menstrual cyscles to make sure everything was ok before we began. I meet with my nurse tomorrow to get my calendar and prescriptions. I believe retrieval will be in either Dec/Jan (depending ont he holidays). I'll get more concrete answers and details tomorrow. I'm excited!
