Karen Those follies sound great..cant believe you even have a few more showing - by Monday some of theose might be mature as well!!! I am indeed knocking back the DHEA... When are you going to stop taking it? I guess after the ER its redundant. GOod LUCK for monday, make us poor repsonders proud!!!!

Babyhope I think most RE's suggest baby asprin for 2 reasons. 1. The drugs we take including BCP's are hormones that can increase chance of heart attack, stroke and baby asprin minmiises that, 2. Baby asprin can help with the uterus lining and help with implantation. Thats my uderstanding, and hopefully if anyone has any other info they will add it, so that we both know!!!

Wonderce Congrats on the 3 little embies and being officially PUPO. The dreaded 2WW is an emotional rollercoaster so try to distract yourself as much as possible, and of course, take it easy :D

Karen & foreverlove A few weeks ago i said i was reading a book 'Is your body baby friendly' and you both said you were interested in a synopsis, so here goes!!! Its obviously a VERY condensed version for such a complex topic, but i hope i can give you a taster of the book, and if you want to do further research, its available on Amazon, new or used..

Dr Beer claims that rather than it just being 'sheer luck', or 'a numbers game' there are several immunological factors that cause us to fail IVF cycles, have miscarriages, and suffer unexplained fertility. He has some pretty convincing evidence and there are some real life examples to bear out this theory. The problem is that all of these disorders (and there are a lot) require specific testing, not standard for IVF. The marker for being tested for some of these disorders are having 2 or more miscarriages, 2 failed ivf cycles (over 35) or 3 failed (under 35). There is also a whole page devoted to other non-pregnancy related inicators to suggestyou may have some immunicological issues.

Now some of these issues require very specific treatments including different types of transfusions, but the majority of issues can be resolved so easily using simple drug therapes. The most common include:
1. Taking steroids Prednisone or preferably Dexamethasome, not just after ER (as many of us already do) but 2 weeks prior to conception (ie start of stims) until 24 weeks of PG
2. Heparin, a blood thinner from cycle day 6 to 34 weeks of PG
3. baby asprin from day 1 of cycle thru PG
4. Metformin (a diabetic drug) especily for PCOS issues
5. Folgard RX 2.2 a high dose folic acid and B6,B12 combo

He also mentions calcium, taking other vitamins, cutting out caffine and eating only organic foods -this stops our immune system form being stressed out as some of these immune isses are caused by our immune system over-working to rid our bodies of toxins, bacteria, and other foeign objects it doesnt recognise (which unfortunately for us can include a developing embryo).

I hope this helps.... I personally am doing the whole organic, no caffine, all vitamins thing right now. When i start AF and am on my BCP's i will add baby asprin, Folgard (can get from Walgreens) and my RE has agreed to the Heparin but not the steroids, but he does suggest high dose vitamin E (although its not in the book). I know there's such a lot of confilcting stuff out ere, ut this does make sense to me and he backs up everything he says. Besides i'm a research junkie.....

Sorry everyone for long post

IVF support

Post by abp »

Hello -
I am new to this message board. I have been through IVF once - but that was cancelled due do to poor quality eggs. We then went through IVF - egg donation - that resulted in a pregnancy that was lost at 7 weeks. I had some blood test done and I have Lupus Anticoaglant Antibody (I don't have lupus) that can cause miscarriages. My Doctor has me on one baby asprin a day to 'cure' that. Anyway, we have started the medicine for this round of IVF. My transfer should be around the middle of November. I am just looking for someone (or more) to talk to about what I am going through. It is so hard on your emotions. If anyone wants to talk please let me know.

gina and NY- best of luck tomorrow. gina, hope everything looks great for you to go ahead to next steps. and NY- WISHING YOU LOTS OF JUICY FOLLIES. you've done so much to prepare, and given this is your 5th time- you are due for your miracle. ALL THE BEST TO EVERYONE OUT THERE.

tonight, i'm so tired it's ridiculous. have to get up early tomorrow am to travel to ER. i'm excited and hopeful..

here's my quote for the night:

Do not let the hero in your soul perish, in lonely frustration for the life you deserved, but have never been able to reach. Check your road and the nature of your battle. The world you desired can be won. It exists, it is real, it is possible, it is yours. (Ayn Rand)

love to all, karen

Thank you for adding me to the list girls! It's nice to be part of a group of women going through the situation. I started my stim shots tonight...exciting, but also more nerve-racking. I go back Thursday to have my follicles checked so I hope all looks good.
I had a very hormonal day and DH wasn't very sensitive today. He has been being very good, but we just didn't get along today and he hurt my feelings. When I tried to talk to him about it, he said I was being selfish because I wasn't considering how he felt!?!? I was like WTH??? Men can say the dumbest things sometimes. I hope he has gotten his frustrations out of his system today because I really need his support right now.

Love my baby - glad to have someone so closely related to what I'm going through... wish you the best of luck. I hope we both have BFP's in the end!

ajdec - CONGRATS!! I hope you have brought us all baby dust!

Good luck to everyone in the 2WW period. I know that's going to be the longest two weeks ever. And good luck to anyone with an ER or ET coming up and everyone else on their journey with IVF.
TTC for over 4 years
HSG - tubes okay
DH semen analysis - good
Multiple clomid rounds and IUI - no sucess
On meds for first IVF attempt

hi i want to thank all of you who replied to my questions. I now have another question. I went for another ultra sound today and blood work and they found a large cyst that was not there last monday. Has anyone had this happen and what is the next step?

wonderce - thanks for the words of encouragement. I'm still plugging away...
Good luck to everyone doing ER's and ET's today!!

Not much to update you on today. Had yet another u/s today. I don't like the nurse practitioner who did it today b/c she wouldn't give me the sizes although they looked bigger to me than yesterday. I'm assuming it's going to be the same routine today - same meds, u/s tomorrow but we'll see. I was supposed to trigger tomorrow but I'm thinking that's not going to happen. Will keep you posted...

not hopeless yet - Congrats on taking another step and beginning BCP's. I have updated you on the past posted list.

abp - Welcome to the group. Are you doing another donor cycle. Hope that aspirin regiment will the the cure all and you get a big BFP.

Ny4thtry - Good luck on your u/s. Hoping you have some really good follies brewing.

gina - Congrats that AF is here and you get to start stims. I will be doing the AF dance for myself at the end of this week.

kke - Where you on BCP's? I have heard a lot of ladies have cysts after BCP's. For some of the ladies I know that they went on BCP's a little longer. I think other ladies went on with their cycle. I think it just depends on the blood work. Keep us posted.

Amanda717 - I find myself being really hormonal during my cycle and always catch myself trying to start a fight with DH. So during the drugs I try and think about what I am about to say so DH and I don't end up fighting all the time. I still let things slip but if he only knew what I really wanted to say a lot of times. I love this little blip. Image

Karen - Thinking about you today for your ER and keeping my fingers crossed that all your follies have mature eggs that want to fertilize and grow.

Kas - Are you tired of taking vitamins yet? I am taking my prenatal vitamin, vitamin b-complex and an Omega-3 vitamin and I am sick of them all. Can't wait till I have to take all these plus my antibiotic and my million shots a day.

KKE - When I went in for my first U/S (on the 3rd day of AF - this was on 10/20), the doc saw a cyst on my right ovary - my RE let me know that if this cyst wasn't gone in a week, they would have to attempt to drain it, or if it was I guess too big, or if there was something wrong with it, we may not even be able to do this cycle of IVF at all, which really scared me..
Well, they put me on the BCP that day, since I'd finally started AF, and the U/S tech said that a lot of times just a week of the BCP will suppress and get rid of the cycst. I prayed even more each morning and night, asking God to remove this cyst.
So, I then went in on 10/24 for my mock transferto be done, and while they were in there, my RE just checked on the cyst, and it was gone! It didn't even take a whole week for the BCP to get rid of it! Small hurdle, I know, but man I was relieved!
So anyways, I don't know if your on BCP right now, but a lot of times that will take care of the cyst. And praying. Please gals don't discount prayer. I have several people praying for me, as well as of course myself ;) and that makes two hurdles that were overcome very easily. Don't know how religous everyone is on here - and I'm not a religous nut myself - rarely go to church though I know I should.. But I try to keep good communication between me and the big guy ;)
Hope veryone's follies are growing big and strong - I cant wait to start my own stim meds in exactly one week. Start Lupron today!! How strange right - I am soooo excited that I get to begin sticking my body all over with needles! he he.
Oh, and that idea of two piles for the meds to seperate them- suuuuuch a good idea! Everyone should do it.. Thanks so much.. !

Oh, and I've emailed my RE and my nurse about Heparin and baby aspirin. I have to say m/c has been on my mind lately - I want my little one to stick, and make it thru the 1st trimester. SO any other ideas that anyone has would be welcome.. I am definitely looking into.. I love that we can get everyone's input and ideas here..

Anyway, Don't know if this helps kke, but perhaps ;)

not hopeless yet - I did a mock transfer. The RE did it the same time I did my saline sonogram. Pretty much they just put the catheter up there to make sure there is no issues with putting the catheter in during ET. My RE also did a measurement of my uterus. My RE doesn't do u/s ET so this is how they know where to plant the embies.
