MTHFR

Post by babyhope1 »

Anyone know anything about the MTHFR gene? It apparently doesn't let something metabolize and I need megadoses of B6, B12 and folate to carry a child to term? I am heterozygous and my Methaline (SP?) levels are normal...or they were a month ago when I had the blood taken to test for this.

Thanks,

Babyhope

I don't have it but on another pay to use board that i use to belong to there were lots of ladies that had that diagnosis. The key to having a baby was getting the diagnosis. Many were having children once they were on the proper meds.

Hi Babyhope, I have the same MTHFR gene. My doctor sent me to a hematologist for it but he didnt think I needed much more than extra vitamins.

My RE has put me on extra folic acid vitamins (3mg a day), regular prenatal vitamins and a special prenatal vitamin called Premisis that has more folic acid, B12 and B6. Needless to say I am taking a lot of vitamins. Our past fresh round didnt work, but I am more hopeful for my FET coming up.

Does your dr have you on anything additional?
ME-29 (stage IV endometriosis; maybe poor egg quality) DH-28 (perfect)
IVF#1 & 2 - BFN
3 FETs - all chemicals
IVF#3 - 31 frozen day 1 embies
FET - 6/12/09- BFP
Beta #1-522 Beta #2 -1899 u/s shows twins!
3 blast frosties & 16 day 1 frosties

wishing4baby-I am sorry about your BFN. WOW 12 frostie blasts!!! You are sooooo fortunate! It will happen! No, she said according to my blood my other gene is compensating or my diet is. So we are heterozygous MTHFRs. More commonly known as HeteroMTHFRS...which I like to call...

OK that would be censored from this board but you know what I mean! URG!

We are not compound MTHFR (as I understand this is two genes missing on two cromosomes) nor are we homozygous (missing both on one) This is just how I understand it. So we are lucky in that we don't need baby asprin or blood thinners...but I feel I still want to take them just if they missed something. I am so tempted to take it now but I understand it can cause birth defects. So, if I miscarry again I will take it nomatter what, what do I have to loose at that point? Sorry, I am tainted.

Surprise surprise, I have a decent diet but I load up on vitamines, I take 5 a day, a centrum, folic acid, B-6, B-12, B-complex (not sure what that is). Tell me more about Premisis is that by perscription? Can I find it at GNC?

Thanks for sharing! We are in this together!

Hi Babyhope1, yes Premesis (sp) is a prescription. It is a prenatal vitamin that contains the high dosage of vitamins we need for the condition. My RE also has me on prescription folic acid. I take 3mg a day of just folic acid and then I get another 2 mg a day from the prenatals.

We are very lucky to have the 12 blasts, I just hope my body does its job and allows implantation to happen.

Good luck to you. Keep in touch. Are attempting another transfer soon?
