I have been panicking for the last two days because I started seeing brownish discharge yesterday. So I called my RE and they said they did not think there was anything wrong and I should worry about large bleeding with severe cramping. Ok so today at work I noticed pinkish-red spotting with no cramping. Of course, I panicked again and called them up right away, I was actually on my way to the emergency room. But she assured me this still could be implantation bleeding and I should worry if it gets heavy with crampy. She also suggested I take 400mg of Ibuprofen to calm my uterus down. I am wondering if the Prometrium transvaginal that I still take three times a day is irritating my uterus because my progesterone levels were 150 on Tuesday and I am currently 5 weeks and 2 days pregnant.
Has anyone else experienced this as well and what did you do?
On Tuesday I had lower abdominal cramping with pressure and some back pain. It was pretty severs so I called my RE. They were closed already so I decided to go to the ER. Then I had the idea to go to my friends OB office and see if they could see me. After hearing my story the OB agreed to see me and do an U/S (he knows my RE also). We saw the heartbeat still going strong, so he put my mind at ease and sent me on my way. After I got home, I noticed a brownish kind of discharge which got me worried again. My RE called me the next day and I told him what happened. He said some cramping and pressure is normal at this stage (7w2d) and that the brownish discharge is normal too but could also have been caused by the OB going in and manipulating a bit. I still feel the cramping here and there but the discharge has pretty much stopped. I guess we all worry for every little thing because we have been thru sooooo much to just get to this point and dont want anything to go wrong!!! Im pretty sure Im driving my husband and everyone else around me crazy!!
On sunday i had reddish discharge followed by brownish discharge till monday. Of course, i panicked and left a message for my doctor and nurse. I just laid down for the rest of the day (off my feet). My nurse called me on monday and said that this is very common during the first trimester especially after an ultrasound. She also said that there is a lot of blood going to the uterus which could cause some of the discharge. Sometimes, intercourse or other irritation to the cervix causes the discharge. Only if u get really bad cramping or full flow u should worry. But if u want to be put at ease i would ask u're doctor to do an u/s. They would usually do it to reasure u that everything is ok. Good luck to u and try not to panic. Which is easier said than done.

Here is an article that i just got today from "what to expect.com":
"Is Spotting Cause for Worry?
"Does a small amount of blood on my underwear mean I'm having a miscarriage?"
It's definitely scary when a pregnant woman sees blood. But what's not definite is that any or all bleeding is a sign that something's wrong. Many women — about one in four, in fact — experience some bleeding during pregnancy and more than half go on to have a perfectly healthy pregnancy and baby. So if you're only noticing very light spotting — similar to what you see in the beginning or end of your period — you can take a deep breath (but do be sure to put in a call to your practitioner just for extra assurance). Such light spotting is usually caused by one of the following:
Implantation of the embryo into your uterine wall. Such spotting will usually occur before (or in some cases around the time) you expected your period.
Sex or an internal pelvic exam or pap smear. During pregnancy, your cervix becomes tender and engorged with blood vessels, and intercourse or an internal exam can sometimes irritate the cervix, causing some bleeding.
Infection of the vagina (such as bacterial vaginosis) or cervix. Again, if your cervix is irritated or inflamed, it might bleed a little.
Heavy, bright-red bleeding warrants a call to your practitioner right away. While there's more cause for concern if you notice such bleeding (especially if it's accompanied by cramps or pain in your lower abdomen), don't automatically assume you're miscarrying. Some women bleed for unknown reasons throughout the pregnancy. Other women bleed because of a clot in the placenta that heals on its own. And still others bleed later in pregnancy because of conditions like incompetent cervix or placenta previa.
If you are bleeding heavily — or even experiencing bleeding that looks like a period — your practitioner will likely perform an exam to see if your cervix has opened. If it has, the chance that you're having a miscarriage is greater. But if an ultrasound is performed (some practitioners perform one when there's bleeding) and if your baby's heartbeat is still detected, your chances of continuing the pregnancy are greater than 90 percent. "
Thank you to everyone for your replies. They have made me feel so much better. I endend up calling my RE this morning and asked him to move up my beta test from Monday to today (Friday) because I am still spotting but it has increased in flow but it still looks like old dark brownish blood. I broke down and cried all afternoon yesterday and I don't want to feel that way all weekend. So now I am just waiting for my RE to call with the results.
Ok the beta was 2880, which is good but my progesterone was very high @ 150 and the norm is around 50. I think I need to stop my progesterone replacement because I think it is irritating my cervix. I am going in tomorrow morning @ 9am for my first ultrasound. Thank you everyone for your support. You guys really mean so much to me.

Hi ladies. Can I join your group. My due date is actually July 6, but I haven't found a July group yet. I'm a little early I guess. However, you ladies seem really nice, mind if I chat with you?
I wanted to update you on my situation. I went for my ultrasound this morning and I was able to see my baby!!! Of course it is too early to hear a heart beat at 5 weeks 4 days but at least I know he or she is in the right place.
As far as the bleeding, my RE thinks it is coming from the edge of my placenta where he sees a blood clot. The bleeding has slowed down a lot and it still dark brown, which my RE thinks it is good as long as it doesn't turn bright red. I have my fingers crossed that this baby will hang in there. I will go for another beta on Monday and another ultrasound on Friday. Thank you so much for the support once again.
Thanks for the welcome. So far, I have some nausea, cramping & indigestion. However, I kind of relish it since these are the typical symptoms of pregnancy. They reassure me.
Angelaezra, I understand that this must be a scary time for you. I'm praying for you. Hope it all works out for you. Keep faith.
Good morning all! Can I join!? I got my BFP on October 24 and it looks like my EDD is June 29, 2009. Had my first scan yesterday...saw the heartbeat and even heard it a little...still a little early as I'm only 6 weeks. But it was incredible! Going back next week for my second scan! Can't wait!
Little background about me...this is my first IVF cycle. DH has two children from a previous marriage and had a vasectomy. We opted for IVF rather than trying a reversal...and it worked! DH is 35, I'm 30. Only transfered one 5 day blast...although we have 11 frosties for possible future siblings!
So far...and I know I shouldn't complain...but not really having any major PG symptoms. I mean, I've been definitely more tired and have had a little indigestion. But so far, no nausea at all or even sore bbs. Part of me hates that...the other part kind of likes it! lol Has anyone else ever heard of this?? I know that nausea can come on at any time...just really expected to be feeling sick by now! (ahh...such odd things we wish for!)
