I had the podees.....I tried to use them when my kids were about 3 months old, just to allow me some help with feedings....didn't work as well as I thought they would. They were harder for Braeden to suck out of...he was a lazy drinker, and you have to work pretty hard to keep suction with those things. Ellie was fine with it....I gave up on them for a while. I should have tried them again when the kids got older, but by that time, I had figured out a system that worked for us. Hope they work for you! They are an ingenious concept!

EMMM!!!!!! Congratulations! I was thinking of you the other week....wondering if you'd delivered yet! I hope you're doing well....I bet you have quite a system going. What is it like to just have ONE baby to take care of! (When you're not chasing your toddlers around!) BTW--love the name, Addison! That was our 2nd girls name--if we had 2 girls! Please update us more when you can.

Hi Ladies,
Havent posted in a very long while but wanted to let you know I have been admitted to hospital in Denver for PTL. Plus my cerclage is starting to fail so they need to keep a close eye on me. I am 33 weeks 5 days today. I did get the two rounds of steroid shots in for lung maturity (whew) but I am so nervous about premie babies. Did anyone else deliver around this time and what was the NICU stay like? I know it is different for everyone but they scared the hell out of me saying I could expect up to a month in there with the babies. From all of the books I had read (that I thought we really informative and right on, like Barabara Luke's book) they estimated a 34 weeker being in the NICU about one week?
Thanks for any advice you might have and for ALL of the advice I have gotten off this board in the last 9 months!

sara: Mine were born at 31 weeks but tested at 33 weeks. So one was in 6 weeks and the other 7 weeks. The one was just a feeder grower after like 3 weeks and the other needed some oxygen and flow. So I think it really depends. But you will get further along hopefully and not have to do NICU for too too long. I knew a mom who had hers at 33 weeks and no NICU was needed...so I think it all just depends.

Hey Everyone! Long time no write for me! We have been BUSY, BUSY. . .but here is my whole 5 minutes on the computer!

Sarahalf~ Sorry to hear you are admitted right now. It's a bummer but I totally understand. I went on hospital bedrest at 32 weeks and delivered at exactly 34 weeks and both my babies were in the NICU for exactly 16 days. Just "feeders and growers" but it wasn't bad at all. I may be sick when I say I missed it when I left and we all went home. We had a great routine and I was there 14-17 hours a day everyday so I could nurse them around the clock. It was long days but we followed the same schedule when we got home and it made life pretty easy for me. It's scary to be in your shoes right now but hopefully you little girls will be a good size and they'll be just fine! Keep us posted and best of luck to you.

Em~ CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!! What a beautiful family and look at how big your new one makes the twinl look??? Crazy!!! I'm a sucker for those dimples too!!! I'm so happy for you. You will have to come back and let us all know how you doing. I would love one more!

Sugabeanz~ Did you get your podees yet? I always wondered about them but since mine never took a bottle I never tried them but I bet they are handy! On the car seat front, I had the Britax infant seats and now we just started using our Britax Marathon seats as well. I got the cutest print (cowmooflauge) and the shipping was free! YEAH! They are so cozy for the babies and we are almost forward facing too. I love Britax and cannot say enough about their car seats. Also, as far as your spit up goes with your little girl, have you tried making sure she is sitting up as much as you can make her after she eats? Being really careful not to put any pressure on her tummy? Annelise had a stomach wall that took a long time to close up and she acted like a baby with reflux sometimes but she was just VERY sensitive to those two things I mentioned. It's just a thought. KEep us posted.

Kimi and Kim~ How is everything????

My babies just got up and I better run. I have new pics on their blog from our vacation. UH-oh. . . . .I hear tears!

Take care,
Kimberly

Emily and Ryan have made a surprise visit.

Post by stephjim »

Hello all. I am sorry I have not been in for a while but I wanted to let everyone know that my precious babies have been welcomed into world unexpectedly. I will go into the full story another time, but I had sudden onset of SEVERE preclampsia and it was already effecting my kidneys and Ryan's amniotic sac, so they took them out on Monday the 27th. They are both in the NICU still and thriving. Ryan was 4 pounds 15 oz and Emily was 3 pounds 15 oz. Ryan is now on nasal canula but did make it to the ventilator for a couple of days (hardest days of my life) and Emily is on room air already. Not sure how long they will be there, but I don't want them to come home unless they are ready. I am a nurse but not capable of taking care of a really sick baby. I will post pics soon and give the whole story soon, but wanted to let everyone know they are beautiful and the best thing that ever happened to me and I can't imagine my life without them, although I do miss them kicking me. :)

Congrats steph!!! It is always the smaller ones that do better! Mine were on the ventilator just for the surfactant then just room air for Brooke and nasal for Kenzie. I hope they are not in too long!!! Then you will have your hands full at home! Congrats again!!!

Kholtan: I make them sleep in their car seats and no pressure to tummy...learned that one lol. It really has gotten better now that they made me add rice to their milk. No Podee yet they should come this week....we shall see!!!

Steph---congrats! I'm sorry to hear about the pre-eclampsia, but I'm glad that everyone's doing okay. Can't wait to hear your update.

Kimberly--I'm glad you had a good vacay! I'll check out your blog tomorrow....

As for me, I've been very sick this past week....I think I might have bronchitis? Not sure---just with report cards at school, Halloween, and just "a lot going on"--I haven't had time to go to the doc. If I'm not better by Monday, then I'll be going in.

I'll try to post a pic of Ellie and Braeden trick-or-treating---they were Raggedy Ann and Andy!

buckeye: I want to see those pics! Sounds too cute!!!!!

Well, the rice seems to be working for the most part. Only one vomit in the past week and that was my fault because I forgot to burp her every 30cc! So I added it to Mackenzie's as well and I do not hear it coming up in her throat as much either! Plus it helps them sleep longer at night! 5 hour then 4 hour stretch! Can not wait till they go 8 hours at night!!

Yeah Podee Bottles stink. She could not suck anything up whatsoever! I even tried to do it and could not get it up!!!! SERIOUSLY?! So I wrote the company asking for a refund. We will see how it goes. If not I will list them on ebay or something...or if your kids can use em let me know!

But I could not get Mackenzie to wake up this last feeding. I tried for an hour to get her to eat...30 cc and she spit up most of it...now she is sleeping again. So if this happens at her next feeding on to calling the doctor. *sigh* I really hope she is not getting sick.
