Hi all! First time in an IVF chat room. We've been shooting up for weeks, cakewalk, but this oil stuff! Any tips on making these round of shots easier on the hips? It's my first time. Loving this site. Hi to all you out there I've been reading! Good wishes to you!
Ask your doctor for Lidocaine cream- put it on about 20-30minues before your shot- put some plastic wrap over it(so it doesn't rub off on your clothes) and voila! no pain!
however- after about 8weeks of it- it hurts no matter what
Thank you! Great suggestions. I love my heating pad, never has it been used so much! We're newbies on this. Just found out today that we have 3 embryos from the 4 thawed. Yeah! We implant Wednesday.
It also helps to put the oil in a bowl of wrm wter for a few minutes before you prepare the injection.. seems to thin it out a bit. I also take a deep breath in and let it out as my husband does the injection.
i never found the shots to be bad. this round of IVF my RE actually switched me to the suppositories and I requested to go back to the shots...
the way I did it (and it didnt require any 30-40 minute prep bc I never had time for that) was to lay in the fetal position on the bed and have DH inject in the spot the RE says to. It helps to keep the circles drawn on with sharpie (ask the RE or nurse to draw it initially) so DH will always know where to go. I prefered the higher portion of the hip. Have DH count down and when he hits one, breathe out as hard as you can and focus on that. Most of the time I couldn't feel the needle. It will be uncomfortable sometimes but as long as DH is quick with it and stays in the right area, it won't ever hurt Also, it helps to have a dog or cat handy to keep you distracted while DH preps and injects
Me 25, DH 27
10X clomid, 3 w/IUI

Hi waiting,
Honestly, we never iced or did lidocaine or used a heating pad and they were pretty easy. I did get lumps under the skin a few times but my husband was pretty good at injecting around them. Just as long as he's quick and confident- it'll be no big deal.
Toward the end, your hips are sore and it will sting a little - but with your hand, lightly massage the area for a minute or two and it will go away.
On our successful cycle, we eventually switched to the front of the thigh because there were no bruise free spots left on my wife's behind. You could ask your nurse to show you that location.
I usually rub the area lightly right after I give my wife the injection. We switch everyday from right buttock to left buttock, then right hip and left hip. It gives her four days before you have to go back to the area again. I also keep the syringe under my arm for 15 minutes or so to thin the oil out. Tell your husband to go slow with the injection and to not go to fast while doing it. I've noticed that if I go to fast a small amount of the fluid will come back out of the needle hole after I've removed the needle and you want to keep that all in there if you can. I've also noticed that my wife tends to get lumps in those areas if I inject the oil too fast. Good luck on Wednesday and try to remain as calm as possilbe. We go on Thursday for our first ultrasound.
Destiny is not a matter of chance, it's a matter of choice.
my nurse told me to just sit and tend towards one side and inject on the side your kinda leaning to,do not push the needle in but just kinda stick it in very gently.
First warm a glass of water in the micro for few sec` then put the oil in it for a little bit, then you can inject when its warm.
Remember to go slow when injecting.
I`m starting mine tomorrow,it has to be at least 2 weeks, twice a day but then if preggo can switch to suppositories.
