Hi - I looked this option up after I saw your post. The trip / cost is very enticing but I would definetly do your homework - it's so easy to get scammed. Maybe not paying them until you're over there @ 50% and another 50% after the egg transfer? Check references? Call better business?
You know, I just thought about something. I will email the radio show I listen to each week on infertility and ask them to do a show on going abroad for infertility treatment. I heard about someone doing this on another forum and they actually did the show, although they said that they book the shows months in advance so it wouldn't be any time soon. This might not be in time for you, but the rest of us could learn. I love this show. It's called Creating a Family (www.creatingafamily.com) and I download it to my iPod every week and listen to it on my way to work. A friend also loves it but she listen to it on her computer. please share what you learn along the way. Thanks.
hi, I'm an american who lives in Germany and because of the laws here we have done all of our IVF tmts outside of Germany, but in Europe. 3 times in Austria and will do our 1st DE cycle in Prague. If you look at the forum fertilityfriends, there is a group of women from the US who are doing tmt abroad and perhaps you can read up on their experiences.
I will tell you that I have been very pleased with the level of tmt I have received here abroad and as long as you are going to a reputable clinic, you shouldn't have to worry about getting scammed.
For our tmt, we have only paid for a 1st consult (100 Euro) and then paid for the cost of the tmt after transfer. Every clinic is different and some do ask for some $$ in advance. Waiting times vary by clinic, just like in the US. The only thing that might be more difficult to coordinate are the appts/lab work -- like doing a correspondence course with IVF? If you have a good relationship with your gyn., then it can work. At least it does for me.
From what I've read, the cost (not considering airfare/accomodation) is less than what you pay in the US. Because I am over 40, we have had to pay out of pocket for all of our tmts, and that mattered to us.
If you have other questions, feel free to contact me.
Good luck and thanks to momtobetobe for that link - I'll start listening to that show - sounds great.
xx Summer
that is a great question! Our clinic was recommended by our RE. If you are interested in a list of clinics that have been recommended to me, send me a PM.
