How much Follistom do you use?

Hi,

I'm going to start the stimulation tomorrow night at 300 I.U. Follistom. This is my first IVF. Before that, I've done 3 injectibles and the dose of Follistom increased from 75 to 150 I.U., but I still just got one Follicle only. As I know, the ideal number for IVF is 15-20 and the retrieval will be cancelled if less than 4 follicles. I'm so worried that I will not get enough with 300 I.U. I'm just curious how much most of you usually use? Should I ask to increase the dose?

Hi,

I would talk to your RE if you are concerned about the dosage.. but, I am sure that they took all of this into consideration - when your last cycle didn't give you the ideal amount of follicles.

I have PCOS as well and I started taking Follistim at 50 iui and then increased to 75 iui on the 3rd day or so...

I ended up with 60 follicles (b/c PCOS pts have the tendency to get OHSS).. I don't really know if there is a standard for what patients use.. I know a lot of it depends on RE style, reaction to those meds in the past, etc...

Hello - Good luck with your cycle! I haven't used Follistim (yet) so I'm not sure of the dosage amount you list. However, if you have PCOS, it is my understanding your RE should use a low starting dose to prevent OHSS.

I used Gonal F, which is a follicle stimulating hormone like Follistim, for 3 IUIs and they started me at 75units at first. By the 3rd IUI I was up to 112units per day. And the last cycle I had a total of 4 follicles.

I'm starting IVF next month and the doctor said we'll start at 225units per day... This clinic aims for 10-20 follicles to do ER. But maybe if this is your first time with FSH they don't want to overstimulate so they're watching how the follicles develop at low doses. Don't worry, there's still time and I bet they're monitoring you every other day.

Keep us posted on how the follies are growing and how you're feeling.

i am older than you guys and dont have pcos.. but i am on 750 ius of follistim for 7 days then down to 525...

Previously i had been on 300

I think I'm a poor responder. They'll check me 5 days later. Maybe I should ask for the US earlier, so that at least there will be some time to adjust if the dose is too low.

I don't have PCOS or anything like that but they started me with 600 units of Follistim for about 15 days.

Last cycle I was on 250u of Follistim and got 6 mature eggs. This time I will be on 300 u of follistim. I am sure your RE doesn't want to overdue it and over stimulate your ovaries since you have PCOS. If you aren't responding well they can always up your dosage.

Girls, I’ve been taking Follistim for 4 days and they scanned me this morning. We found 26 follicles growing! 15 on left and 11 on right. The big ones are between 9-10mm. I didn’t see this coming. Don’t understand why I only got one follicle last time with 150 IU follistim and now 26 with 300 IU. But I think I’ll lose some of them later.

that's a great # of follies. congrats. my RE says anything over 450 ui a day is a waste- body just pees it out. i'm a low responder and used 225ui 2xday

i guess there's lots of different perspectives the REs have. i don't think you should ever increase your dose without your REs consent.

I went to ultrasound Friday again and they found 10 big follicles; others just stay the same size. And I just had the retrieval today, 9 eggs. Now still cramping

on this cycle they started me on 10/27 200iu follistim 10/28 200iu then for 10/29,10/30,10/31,11/1,11/2 175iu follistim & ganirelick i started that one 10/30,10/31,11/1 & 11/2 so far....i have right now about 23 follicles & out of the 23 follicles i will find out how many look good tomorrow on 11/3..wish me luck ladies i need it.....i have to go for b/w & u/s....so good luck on your cycle ladies & chat with u soon...big hugs to u all & here is alot of baby dust to u all..

I only had to use 225 IU each day for 6 days and I produced 11 eggs. 5 were good, 4 were fertilized successfully.

I was using 250 IU a day for 8 days...I had 24 eggs retrieved, 12 fertilized, 3 blasts were transfered on day 5 and the rest were frozen. When I did my last IUI w/ injectables I was on 125 IU a day and only had 3 eggs that matured. Good Luck!!!
