HI there
really pleased to hear that you have done so well so far. The bit your about to do it quite tough tho - I remember coming round from the general that they gave me to have my eggs collected not even KNOWING if they any good sperms from my DH!! But i guess you wont have THAT issue!
It is a bit a mare waiting for news on how many eggs have fertilised - but dont worry you will be fine - its very unusual (esp in your situ) to not have any fertilise - and you may even have some to freeze. (embryos freeze much better than eggs).
PLEASE let us know how it goes.
As far as the 2 week wait is concerned - my docs have told me to take it easy for the first 4 to 8 days as thats when implantation takes place (if its going to). By taking it easy I THINK they mean no heavy weights/ trampoleing or sky diving -I think pretty much everything else is acceptable! I went back to work after 48 hours (quite stressful job) and back to gym after 4 days - which I think WAS probably a mistake- altho I suspect (with my sensible hat on) that it didnt REALLY make all that much different to the final outcome. This time tho am under strict instructions from DH to do NOTHING. I may go mad!
Drink lots of water, lay of the fags and booze, take folic acid and baby asprins were the only other thing. Some people also swear by acupuncture straight after ET.
Good luck anyway!

Hi all
For all those who have been following my IVF journal, I am in the home stretch!!!

SO is it a good idea to go back to work tomorow or should I still take it easy???
Does anyone have any suggestions on what to eat or do in order to have a better chance of implantation?
So NO alcohol during these three days of PAINFUL waiting????
AAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!
Well, I once agian that all of you for your support and well wishe, I wish to all of you the same!!!!!
your friend

Firstly I just want to say I am new to this web site, only just discovered it today, after reading these posts I feel so much better and not alone any more,
My dh and I found out yesterday he will need a biopsy on the testis to determine if there is any sperm there, after semen tests have shown none present. We were told yesterday that if this biopsy shows sperm we can go for ivf, if not then donor sperm. I know so little on both subjects.
By the way, the doctors have siad that there isnt a problem with me.
I would love for you lot out there in the same boat as me, to help and guide me and my hubby. Has any one else had this biopsy, whats it like, and then what happens??? We are now on a waiting list for 4 months.
These next 4 months will be hell,
Love to hear from someone!! x x x x :P

Hi nicolamark

my dh and I are in exactly the same boat as you. We are at the moment trying to get the money together for the biopsy as we cannot get nhs funding.

We have had 3 goes at iui using donor sperm with no success and have decided to find out once and for all if there are any sperm in there anywhere!

There are plenty of people on this site who are old hats at the sperm retrieval thing and they can share their experiences with you

Its always nice to welcome one more person on board

best of luck with everything. With love from tracy xxx

Dear Nicole,

I am glad that you found this site too, it has really helped me out and my sanity!!!
It sounds like you pretty much have the same problem as I did. My DH had to go through surgery to get his sperm out. And boy did he have a ton!!!!
What exactly is his problem?? Does he just not ejaculate??
Anyway, because things were good with me and his sperm is strong and healthy, we are on our way!!!
I go in tomorrow for my transfer, I got 10 eggs out, 6 started to fertilize, one did not divide further, 1 is in a stage 4, the other 4 eggs are at a stage 3........
So I will know tomorrow how many they will actually put back.
If you have any questions I would love to try and help. The more help you get the easier everything is

Susan,
Thanks for the well wishes~~ I have written above as to what we will be doing tomorrow and as far as freezing them goes, yep!!! I hope to freeze as many as possible!!!!!!!!!
I will let you know!!!
Keep ypur fingers cross!!
THANK
REGANKATE :D
wish you all the BEST!!!!

Hello trace!
i am glad to have found this site, I am so surprised how many others r experiencing the same as me and my man!
I am now worried about whether or not we will have to pay for the biopsy, as the doctor didnt say a anything, I was assuming it was nhs funded. Maybe I should check that one out.
Can I ask how much do you need to pay for the biopsy??
Why have you done donor sperm and only just now finding out whether your dh has gone sperm in there?
When is the biopsy, do you know a date yet, or are you on a waiting list like us?

Hi regankate!
I not really sure exactly what the problem is, yes he ejaculates but it's only semen that comes out and no sperm. We are assuming that the testis are not producing sperm, but why or what would of caused this is un known, I guess we wont truely know til after the biopsy results!
Thanks for your words. I hope that all goes well with your ivf?

Hi nicola
We have the same prob - I am basically fine, but hubbie has no sperm in ejaculate. As you probably know this can be for 2 reasons - theres a blockageor no tube to get the sperm out from the testis (where its made) to the semen (obstructive azoospermia)
OR it maybe that he isnt making any or just very few sperm (non-obstructive azoospermia).

I believe that the latter is a more difficult situation that the former - because you just might not have enough sperm anywhere to do much with....but in either case sperm can in the majority of cases be found in the testis using a process called TESE or in the epidiymus (OK cant spell that!) using I think whats called PESA. You might be having either....

My hubbie has had a couple of TESEs (he had mumps as a teenager and is producing hardly any sperm, and they are non -motile so not moving out of the factory!). They say that its painless. You have very heavy sedation - and afterwards feel a bit bruised - the needle the insert into the skin on the tesis is TINY TINY. HOWEVER....being men expect ALOT of moaning and groaning afterwards!

With this procedure we managed to fertilise 3 out of 10 eggs in our first ICSI. I think the fertilisation rate is higher if it is OBSTRUCTIVE azoospermia (like in ragankates case) because theres more sperm the are just in a "dam" and cant move out.

God - I never knew I'd become such an "expert" - WHAT a saddo!

Dont despair tho - there IS hope!!

Its a bit odd that the docs havent identified the reason why your DH isnt producing sperm - but I guess thats what the biopsy is for.

We have considered the donor option and in our next go will have donor sperm as back up - its taken my husband and I a long while to come round to the decision - but in the end.....its a pretty simple one..... you should join us on the DI pals chat - we are all in the same boat - wondering a bit how we got here!

I recommened you plug in TESE and ICSI into google you'll find lots of interesting stuf - theres a REALLY good study done by Cornell in New York. Which you'll find there.

Take care - sorry to ramble!!

Thanks Caz!
Your reply has been very useful, infact all the replies I have had in the last 24hrs have been great!

We wont know why or if there is any sperm until after this biospy is done.

I know what u mean about becoming an "expert" I know so much about the repoduction system now, in fact I know so much more than friends who have had babies, when I speak to then about it they dont know what the hell I am on about, butreally they should being that they have all been pg and had kids! Know what I mean!
I hated Biology at School, now my old teacher would b impressed!! I should get an "A" if I resit my biology GCSE!!!!!

Where is the DI PALS chat?? I would like to meet u there, and others in the same boat, sounds like I could learn all sorts there!!
Is it on the chat section, on this web site??
Will search TESE, PESA and ICSI.

Thanks Lv Nicola x x x
