Heartburn?

Post by ajdec »

Any of you experiencing heartburn? So far, no morning sickness for me, but heartburn has been pretty bad. Was going to break down and take some tums this weekend, but found mixed reviews on the internet about taking them during pregnancy. I'm going to my OB on Wednesday, so figured I'd suck it up until then and ask... But just wondered if any of you got the okay from your DR to take Tums/Rolaids, etc.

Hi Ajdec -
Congratulations on your pregancy!
I didn't get heartburn until later on in my pregnancy but my doctor definitely told me taking tums at that time was okay.
More encouraging though, at my first appointment, I explained that I was concerned about calcium intake because I am not a big milk drinker and my OB recommended taking Tums as a calcium supplement every day. So, from my experience it is definitely safe to take Tums while pregnant.
I know she said a couple other things were okay to take for heartburn while you are pregnant too but I don't remember what those items were as I already had the tums at home.
Anyhow, I hope this helps. I know heartburn can be quite a pain.
Good Luck!

I have been having the most horrible heartburn the entire time. To the point that I would cry at night it hurt so bad. The dr. ok tums for me and I've been poping like 12-14 a daysince and everything is just fine. The tums stopped working as a matter of fact and I tols told my dr. that Iwas gonning to kill someone if I didn;t have some relief from it and he ok'd pepsid 2x a day which is working like a charm so far. The tums should be just fine, just don't get the ones that have calcium in them.
