Hi everyone
I have had 4 failed IVFs in the past 18 months - 3 FET and 1 fresh, all with good quality blasts. I had a consultation with my doctor last week and he has recommended that I get my left tube removed before doing any more ivf. The reason is that as soon as I start the estrogen part of the ivf meds, I seem to get some fluid in my left tube. Once I stop the ivf meds, this fluid disappears but my doctor suspects that this is a major factor in the recent ivf failures. He has called this fluid in the tube a hydrosalpinx. It is very strange because I had a laproscopy done last October and the surgeon said that both tubes are fine but something seems to happen once I start taking all the ivf meds.
Has anyone had any experience like this (ie getting the fluid in the tube during the ivf process)?
Has anyone had a tube or two removed and then gone on to get a bfp?
I am very nervous about an operation to remove the tube. Could anyone let me know what the operation is like - how long did you have to stay in hospital, how long did it take to get back on your feet etc?

I havent had your experience of fluid build up due to IVF meds but i have had both tubes diagnosed with hydrosalpinx or 'hydro tubes' and i have now had them both removed (July) as my RE said the fluid in the tubes dramatically reduces pregnancy rates as the fluid is toxic to an embryo
Following my tube removal i did a cycle that ended in a BFN and i am about to start stims next week (if all is ok) for cycle #2. I have however seen the question before (have those with tubes removed then gone on BFP?) and i'm happy to say the answer is yes
The procedure itself i found to be tough but thats just me. I was in a lot of pain and it was hard to get around but a week really resting helped a lot. PM or post again anytime if you want to know more, i'm happy to share,

Hey Joyanna- Seems we are always doing whatever it takes to get our BFP!!! I do not have either tube. One ruptured while doing chlomid, and the other had the fluid that you were talking about. I can say that I did not find the surgery too bad. It was out patient surgery, and I was up and about the next day. however, I have had several surgeries, and have a very high pain tolerence.
Anyhow, since removing my tube I have had a BFP!!! Now, I will be honest and say that I removed the tube before my first IVF, so not sure if it had anything to do with it, but.....
If you are in doubt, seek the advice of another physician. It is always best to feel comfortable with what you are doing before doing it.

Oh gosh i had fluid in my right tube and it was remove but I did not know that Fertility drugs can cause this. I f anybody have any info on this can you please let me know.
I say this becasue when is I started doing the clomid they said everthing look fine but the after a couple of months they notice I had a hydrosalpinx.
so do you think i can get another hydrosalpinx in my other tube when i start taking meds again?

I am interested to know how easily your doctors detected that you had fluid? And how they actually did that. Is it present in the scans?
Only ask because I had tubal surgery on both tubes and always knew a potential risk was the hydrosalpinx post surgery. I don't know if this was anything to do with two past failures this last year- perhaps not as also had implantation resulting in misscarriage – but I want to cover all options with my re after christmas.
I wonder if the problem for me is more the quality of the embryos. Still trying to register the fact that out of 17 eggs they only managed to salvage TWO decent embryos??

When I did not get pregnant immediately after my major endo surgery it was suggested to go in and see if my tube had the fluid in it. They shot a dye up into my tube and sure enough I had the fluid. THey said they could remove it, but it would cause scar tissue to form. I already had plenty of that from all my other surgeries, so we just opted to remove the tube.

Most girls say they are on their feet the next day. I was a little different. I had a lot of pain and it took me 3 weeks before I felt anywhere near normal again. I did however have to go back to work on Monday (the 12th), 4 days after surgery. It was a real tough week.

My doctor just diagnosed me with this hydro tube thing yesterday. I'm still trying to understand it. It looks like I will have surgery next month to either repair or remove the tube. I don't know the extent of the damage. But last night I read about the clomid thing. I was on clomid for approximatley 10 months on and off. Had I known that this could cause that kind of damaged I don't think I would have been on it as long or even at all.
So one questions...if you have everything else normal but only have one fallopian tube, do you still do IVF or concieve naturally? We are just trying to figure out if we still need to go through IVF. I on the other hand just want to concieve right away no matter what, but I also don't want to pay the money for the IVF if I don't need to.

Well I think it could have, I'm not quite sure. I have a call into my doctor to find out the reason why he thinks this could have happened. In all the information he gave me yesterday, I never asked the question how it could have happened. But with research, I'm seeing that Clomid could have been a factor.
Well I do have 1 tube left and me and my Dh did IVF and we conceived but we ended up miscarrying aroun 14 weeks. My re said that I have a 50% chance of conceiving on my own because my other tube was shut and she was able to open it but it might healed back with a lot of scar tissue I will be starting my Ivf #2 this month so hopefully this one work and stick.
