Hello everyone. My wife and I are going through our 3rd IVF attempt. I have a question regarding what she's currently going through. She is having light (she described it as pink) bleeding. We had our transfer on Sunday, 11/16. The bleeding started Saturday, 11/22. It stopped on Sunday morning, and has sort of come and gone. She says it's not really heavy, she more so sees it when she wipes, and it continues to be really light, a pinkish color. Could this be the beginning of her period, or implantation bleeding? She's not scheduled to get her period for a few days. She has a blood test scheduled for Friday, so we'll know for sure then, but as many of you might know, it's mentally exhausting and we're just looking for some answers to what may be happening. For those of you who have undergone similar procedures, would you guess this is "implantation bleeding", or the early signs of her period?
hey it is possible that it was an implanation bleed....did u do a home pregnancy test? for me i had my transfer on 11/11/08 & i had my implanation bleed on 11/17/08 then i took a home pregnancy test on 11/18/08 & it came back positive & another one on 11/19/08.....good luck to the both of u & big hugs to the both of u

I had this exactly with the same timing and it was likely implantation bleeding as I was pg with twins.
Me: 44 severely reduced reserve
DH: 44 perfect
IVF 1: Feb 08 -BFP twins (lost one at 7 weeks, one at 13 weeks)

IVF 3: September 08 -BFN
IVF 4: November 08 - Katherine Emma born 8/9/2009
I agree with Silverangel or lynniecat .....I would guess its from the Progeserone or its implamentation bleeding. Its more common than ya think and makes the most logical sense so early on..........
Well things have been hectic the past 24 hours. Last night around 6, she took a test and it was positive. We were obviously extatic, but cautiously extatic, because there was some blood. First thing this morning, she went to the bathroom and the bleeding had gotten a little worse (a little thicker, and more red), and she tested again, and it was still positive, but the second line on the stick test was lighter than the one last night. As the morning progressed, though, it seemed to get darker and became basically the same as the one from last night, and her bleeding has died down a bit, and is only now visible when she wipes. Needless to say, we don't know what to think, but are really concerned and doubtful. She's having a blood test today to see where things are, and will have another tomorrow to see if the numbers have gone up. Any feedback?
My humble opinion at this point would be to inform your RE or talk to one of the nurses at the IVF clinic assuming you havnet already. Explain to them and tell them what you are expereincing so at least its on record. Is she having any cramping asscociated with her bleeding??? They will probably tell you the same thing as we all did or they may want to have you come in, just depedns on your DR. I can totally understand your headspace right now as bleeding is awlays scarey and belive me I have had my fair share. I still think its implamentation, but I could be wrong. The reason I dont suspect miscarriage at this point is because it seem to early but its possible. But If I were a betting woman I would guess out of all three scenarios its implementation.
I know its hard being in the dark and not knwing for sure. Its the most frustrating part of IVF ...wait wait wait........
For what it's worth, my wife had pinkish bleeding, followed by a little reddish bleeding, on our 2nd and 4th IVF. The second was a chemical pregnancy, and the 4th was a successful pregnancy.
I think it is probably implantation, which is a good sign, but does not guarantee a healthy baby yet - she could still get her period.
Advice? Pay attention to the blood tests, which are much more accurate than the sticks. As others have said, let the doctors know everything you've found. And maybe be cautiously optimistic that at least you can get to the start of a pregnancy!
Thanks for all the feedback. The bleeding is still quite red, but she's not getting any cramps at all. Her HCG level is 40, and it's been 9 days since the transfer. She said the bleeding isn't equivalent to her period, but she's actually thinking that at this point she's miss-carrying. The blood is bright red, but only when she wipes. I guess what's she's expecting at this point is for her HCG number to be lower. Any feedback?
Up until now I didnt know you had a blood test to give you a beta of 40. Did you do a 3 day transfer or a 5 day transfer?? How far along were you post transfer when you got your frst beta??? I am sorry I missed this info. I cant rememeber what a good number would be at what point. It is possible she is miscarrying, but I still think you have a reason to be optimistic. In my non-doctor opinion I think its implemantation bleeding, possibly an irritated cervix(have you had sex recently?) However the only time I had bleed in all three of my miscarriages is when I had an eptopic pregnancy, but I was bleeeding allot more than your wife. I was changing thick maxi pads every 30 minutes until fnally I had to go into emergency surgery....so thats heavy bleeding.
Most woman who miscarry have a good deal more blood then your describing, but I have read instances where there was a little blood like your saying in early miscarrigaes but mostly these miscarriages were accompanied by cramping, sometimes severe.
I just wanted you to know that I had ALLOT of bright red bleeding at 9 weeks into my pregancy that resulted in two ER trips. I am now 16 weeks and the bleeding stopped completely by 15 weeks. I still have two very strong babies grwing inside of me despite all the bleeding. Some woman bleed during pregnancy, it doessnt always mean doom and gloom.
With all that said, the only comfort I can offer is that I think you should continue to be cautiously optimistic until proven otherwise, It could go either way I suppose. I feel for your Dear wife, and of course you. Its a very scarey thing whenver any blood in invloved.
Thanks for the reply! We're now 9 days past a 3 day transfer. She describers her current bleeding as "mid-period, bright red bleeding...not heavy like the first day of a period, but more like the middle...definitely bleeding and definitely red". I guess at this point it's just a matter of waiting and seeing. Also, and I don't know if this changes anything, but we put in 2 embryos at the point of transfer, so it's a possibility of twins, or maybe one of them didn't take?? And no, we haven't had sex since transfer, but she does the progesterone suppositories, so that may be playing a role as well.
Well please keep me posted during your wait.. I wish I knew something, but I am still very hopeful for you both, Please try to keep a good positive attitude...I know that may sound strange but I believe in the power of positive thought..perhaps someone else will pop on here that knows allot more than me :)lord knows there are some smart people on this forum..
wishing you sticky vobes and tons of baby dust...please post again and let me know what happens!!!

This sound almost exactly like my wife at a similar point. We transferred three embryos, of which two got to the point of visible gestational sacs, though only one got to a heartbeat and birth. The bleeding might have been associated with unsuccessful implantation of the third embryo, though I remember something about the doctor thinking it was from the cervix rather than from the uterus or something like that.
As long as the HCG level doubles every couple of days, you're fine. I know it's tough to be patient, but I think that's what's called for at this point. You can always call the doctor if the bleeding gets much heavier.
