ICSI low fertilization rate

Post by sammycat »

Hi all,

I had ER yesterday. 6 eggs were mature and fertilization attempt was made with ICSI. Only 2 of the eggs fertilized. I was told that typically 80% of the eggs will fertilize using ICSI. So only 33% of my eggs fertilized. Has anyone else had low fertilization rates with ICSI? I was told this is pretty rare. Has anyone had pregnancy success with such a low fertilization rate? I'm sad and freaking out! Any stories would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure on the stats for ICSI but we used it. I had 16 eggs, 12 fertilized but only 7 were viable come transfer time. We ended up transfering 2 & I had 1 to freeze. I got a positive hpt sunday. Go for the blood test thurs. Good luck!!

It only takes 1 embryo to implant and your pregnant. Think of it that way. 2 embryos are great, if they do well, that gives you more than a 50% chance that you'll get pregnant.
I remember going in for my ER during my 2nd IVF and the woman who went in befor me woke up to news that they didn't get ANY eggs from her at all. I'll never forget how upset she was or how she cried. She had NO CHANCE at all, the poor thing.
They got 8 mature eggs from me that cycle and only 5 fertilized. So I didn't get an 80% fertilization rate either but I got pregnant anyway and had 2 babie's to put to sleep until I could could come back for them later.
I know you were expecting better, and I know how frightened you must be. But be strong for your little beans and rememeber that you've got a great chance right now/ Good luck in it all and keep us posted.

I also did icsi. They retrived 11 eggs, only 8 fertilized and only 4 made it to 3 day transfer. I am holding my 3 month old daughter in my arms as I type this to you, so don't lose hope. I am sure rates are different for everyone, and as someone else said, it only takes one. Good luck.
