low fertilization rate with ICSI

Post by sammycat »

Hi all,

I'm posting on the general forum as well....

I had ER yesterday. 6 eggs were mature and fertilization attempt was made with ICSI. Only 2 of the eggs fertilized. I was told that typically 80% of the eggs will fertilize using ICSI. So only 33% of my eggs fertilized. Has anyone else had low fertilization rates with ICSI? I was told this is pretty rare. Has anyone had pregnancy success with such a low fertilization rate? I'm sad and freaking out! Any stories would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there Sammycat

Just remember it is quality not quantity. If I remember rightly on my last cycle they retrieved 6 eggs, 5 or 4 fertilized but only 3 carried on to day 3 but they were 2 grade A`s and 1 B. I didn`t fall pregnant I`m afraid to say but I can`t imagine that the amount retrieved is indicative of failure or success.

Hang on in there and try to keep positive.

Hi daisy,

I agree with Sammycat. We used ICSI both IVFs the first IVF I produced 23 eggs, only 11 were mature enough to ICSI and only 4 fertilized, all made it to 3days with 8 cells each. But unfortunately we went on to get a BFN but my RE told me that my egg quality wasn't that great and I was so stressed out the entire 2 weeks I am sure that's why I got a BFN.
This time around I produced 15 eggs, 10 mature enough to ICSI and 5 fertilized, but on Day 3, we had 3-8 celled and 2-4-celled embries. We just got our first BFP!! So its really the quality of the embryos is all that counts not the numbers!

I was also told a story of a woman who only had one embryo and it was a grade C, but she went on to have a happy and healthy pregnancy!! You just never know.

Hang in there and do everything you can to stay hopeful and stress free. it does make a difference. Remember all it take is one of them to stick.

Hi hun,
On my first attempt I had around 7 eggs collected and only 1 fertilised which was transferred and i got a little girl .
On my 2nd attempt the drugs i took were changed to increase my egg production and 7 were collected all 7 fertilised and i had 2 transferred then got a boy, so dont worry i got 1 baby from only 1 embryo!
Good luck
