Progesterone Shots VS. Suppositories During IVF Cycle

Post by KMHTTC »

Hi Everyone... Sorry to bother you all but I am gearing up for my 2nd IVF cycle and am pretty anxious. Since you all have had success I am looking for some advice. I am wondering what type of progestrone you were on during your IVF cycle. Were you on the progesterone shots or the suppositories? I took the generic progesterone suppositories the ist time, which obviously I had a BFN, and my RE said that it is ok to take them again with this cycle except this time I will take one's called Crinone. I am worried that the suppositories are not as effective and that I should be using the shots. Thoughts?
THanks again!

Hi KMHTTC,
I just found out that we are BFP and have good levels so wanted to share my experience with you. I was on POI everyday and started getting such bad welts that I could not walk or sleep so we went onto POI every other day and Endometrin suppositories everyday- 3 times a day. Each doctor has their own protocol and some doctors get worried since the suppositories dont' show up as much when they check the blood levels. I hate the shots since I am fairly thin, but it isn't so bad every other day.
Best of luck to you.

Hi, My clinic only use the suppositories, after my BFN i asked about the shots and they said i can have them if i want but they both have the same success and they moved to supp's as they were easier and also cheaper.
Also on a fresh cycle progesterone is only issued as a precaution, we don't really need it as it is released naturally in the corpus luteim (sp) when the egg is released. It is needed in a medicated FET as none is present, I had healthy term twin boys from an FET using suppositories.

Good luck in your cycle, trust your clinic.

I say let your doctors make the decisions. They've gone through the schooling and I believe they know what they're talking about.
We pay them to do this for us and we should trust them. They want us to get pregnant and will do the best they can to make it happen. I say let them worry about your meds and you worry about getting ready to be a mommy.
Good luck in it all and here's to hopeing for a BFP!!

Hi KMHTTC, I am currently on progesteron suppositories 3 times a day. My RE said I will quit using them after 9 weeks. I also used Crinone previously with my IUI cycles. I've never used PIO shots but have heard a number of different posts on here that use both. I would think they're all equally effective. Good luck to you!

Thanks so much everyone for your replies! I am going to take the advice of trusting my clinic - that is good advice! It is really helpful to hear all of your success stories. Thank you again.
