Hi all, AF arrived so I rang the clinic as they had previously said they want to monitor me through a natural cycle so they can see whether I ovulate or not - have been a poor responder with 3 cancelled cycles (1 by me due to DH accident but that's another story) and the 2 times I have got to ET having 1 egg and 4 eggs...
The nurse said "standard IVF is obviously not designed for you" - cheers mate.
Has anyone else had this monitoring? Did they conclude anything from it? Am wondering if the next suggestion with be donor eggs and this scares me no end. Or perhaps I'm worrying too much, after all I CAN make my own eggs, just not very many...last time I saw the consultant she said she might try clomid with the other drugs as well next time but wanted to do this monitoring first incase it showed up anything that would help.
My FSH levels have always been normal and they can see no reason at all why I don't respond. I was on 6 amps menopur both times I got to ET. Anyway, now I have to wait for next AF and then ring in to book a series of scans.
So I don't really know what to think - any advice?

Hi Kat,
sorry cant help but nice to hear from you....
At least your clinic seem to be doing something to find out why you dont respond well, this is hopefully a step in the right direction.....Hopefully things will start to happen now......
Good luck and keep in touch
Your old(ish) SCB buddy......

p.s-did you see July Ann is testing soon so we must keep an eye on her and stop her testing early!!! THink I might start a thread for her to keep her on the straigh and narrow
it's late so i hope i've read your message right... i was a poor responder to stim drugs and had two monitored cycles to see what was happening as my consultant was reluctant to let me do another ivf. part of the tests were bloods for fsh and progesterone, scans for signs and timing of ovulation, follicle size, lining thickness at various times and ovary activity pre and post ovulation. the results showed a progesterone problem and late ovulation. well, during the monitored cycle i got pregnant naturally, i'm 18 wks.
like you i had normal fsh but low number of eggs. the natural cycle for me was a miracle but like people say you only need one, and in a natural cycle thats what we produce. not sure if any of this answers your question but if i can help anymore please just ask.
Hi Phil, sounds like you got some answers from your monitored cycles (as well as getting pg - congrats - a miracle indeed) - did they say what they would do with your progesterone/late ovulation? It's funny, when I used to do those ovulation tests years ago before all this ivf stuff started, I always used to get the surge about day 19/20 rather than day 14 like they expect you to - maybe I ovulate late aswell, who knows...
You've made me feel better anyway, so thanks for that, it could just be something simple that they can sort out quite easily. Where were you having your tmt?
And Sarah, I have posted on your thread for July Ann - can't believe she is contemplating testing early after everything we've told her!!! You & Nikola will have to keep your eye on her for me as I am off skiing next Sat for a week.....
lots of love

hi kat, i was put on a high dosage of progesterone from ovulation to support a pregnancy. the downside (if there is one) is that i had to stay on it for three months once i conceived. any drop in level beore the placenta takes over will cause a reaction as your body thinks it's preparing for menstration. i've had previous miscarriages and this could have been why.
as for late ovulation, because i was ovulating they wouldn't put me on clomid. there seems to be no reason why it happens to some women. what it does mean is that if it 's a 28 day cycle and ovulation happens later than day 14/15 then there will be a short progesterone phase. unless supported this can be a problem with keeping a pregnancy.
i went through two ivf cycles and none of this was detected. eventhough i was using progesterone pessaries it wasn't a high dosage.
i had one ivf and monitored cycles through a clinic called viveka in st.johns wood, london.
also kat, we did alot of change in diet, fitness and lifestyle stuff as well as accupuncture, which i'm convinced helped me in getting pregnant due to my age and slight male quality/quantity issue.
Hi Phil, thanks for the reply, I start being monitored after next af which will be 3-4 weeks time. We have slight male factor, I have not m/c (unless v early and I don't know) but have had 2 -ves after ET. I really have to get myself sorted fitness-wise too, DH is really active but I really don't like exercise and am probably overweight which won't be helping matters. I am 39 this year - how old are you? What changes did you make to your diet?

i'm 43 and got pregnant just weeks before my b/day. i changed to organic food only, high protein at every meal, no caffeine, reduced alcohol. also i took a list of supplements including omega 3 fish oils, folic acid, b complex for reproductive system. protein is really important in reproduction, it's the most basic and important component of an embryo. also, reason for organic is to eliminate the growth horomones and other additives fed to foodsources, which alters our reproductive systems and natural hormone levels. sorry if i'm giving you info you already have, it's just i did so much research on this it's coming out of my ears...
my dh's factor was really greatly improved by him taking saw pallmetto and making some of the changes to diet, but not all by any means. there was an improvement within about 3-4 months by about 30%, which brought him well into the normal range.
what clinic are you with?
good luck with the monitoring and hope it gives you some answers.
